Hello, Mr Li: The Christmas Trip Chapter 120

"What the hell were you doing there? I was almost worried not seeing you anywhere!" Reen frowned when she saw Joreen coming out of the room she believed was Suyin's room.

"I'm sorry. Here is the key. Let's go get sister Heya's thing." Joreen handed her the key.

She eyed Joreen before taking the key. She didn't say anything else until they entered inside Heya's room and Reen locked the door.

"What were you doing in Yan Suyin's room?"

"I... felt bad for her—"

"Felt bad for her?" Reen asked in disbelief.

"Why would you feel bad for that girl? She embarrassed sister Heya in front of everybody!"

"I know she did. And I hate the fact that she called her such names—"

"Then what? What do you think the others are going to do if they heard you were being friendly with her? Didn't you hear all she said about her family? They are all crazy people! They are trying to pin their family to ours through any means."

"CAN YOU CALM DOWN?" Joreen asked in a raised voice.

"Hell, I can't! I won't have you going to act like an angel to that girl."

"You think I am happy about what happened? Or I went to thank her for calling sister Heya names?" Joreen asked in frustration.

"She was wrong. I am not stupid. I even heard her talking to her brother like a crazy person. He also got mad and left, which I would have done if I had been in Yan Shen's shoes. But I... just couldn't see that and act like I—"

"There! Right there, that is your problem. It is not your business!"

"Can you try to put yourself in her shoes for crying out loud!" Joreen yelled at her older sister.

"I don't know what happened to the three people involved, but she found out about sister Heya and her supposed fiancee—"

"And she called her names!"

"Don't make it look like I am against sister Heya and taking Yan Suyin's side." Joreen shook her head. "She is heartbroken, she got hit by two people and then her mother crowned it up. Her bedroom was wide opened! I saw her crying on the floor with swollen face. Look..." Joreen sniffed.

"We all love sister Heya. And we are both here now because of her. I have known her as long ad I can remember and I love her and really glad to know she has everyone there trying to cheer her up—"

"Doesn't matter."

"Can you be a little bit soft hearted? Trust me, Yan Suyin is going to get better by tomorrow, believing she has the sympathy of the Li family—"

"You must be kidding me."

"Reen..."

"Would you have been nice to her had she been clinging unto uncle Hoy?" Reen asked and waited patiently for Joreen to answer.

"Let me ask you this then... if sister Heya was in Yan Suyin's shoes, would you have thought sister Heya deserved all that was happening to her and ignored her?" Joreen asked.

"Our family. The entire family would have still backed her up no matter what. We would have taken her side no matter what. But Yan Suyin's parents aren't even taking her side! How do you expect her to heal and then have a civilized conversation with sister Heya?" Joreen asked Reen who was now sitting on the bed, massaging her temple.

"When Weiyoung stole sister Sara's boyfriend from her, I knew how it broke her even if she tried to act strong. Because she knew she had lost not just her boyfriend, but her only friend. I didn't need to know Liu Weiyoung's back story with Mo Jinyong before I took Sister Sara's side."

"That is a different case.."

"No, it's not."

"If there was a book with Yan Suyin as the protagonist, everyone would have blindly hated sister Heya and seen her as the antagonist without caring to know the backstory."

Reen stood up and walked towards Heya's wardrobe to open it, "I don't even know what to say to you." Reen said as she began to sort through her clothes.

"Don't just be nice to the wrong person. People know how to hide their true nature. That today, was probably Suyin's real nature."

Joreen forced out a laugh and joined Reen to sort out the clothes.

"You know, it's funny.." Joreen started. "People can be nice for a hundred days but when you see them fighting one time, people can easily conclude that 'that' is their real nature. But did it ever occur to them that 'that' probably isn't their real nature but that was just as a result of some kind of stimulus? What about all the times they were good? Why don't people think the good part is actually their 'real nature'? I remember you telling me a couple of times that you find it difficult disliking her for sister Heya because she seemed like a cool person."

"I hate you!" Reen sighed in defeat. "You probably should drop acting and focus on being a psychologist since you are so good at it."

"I apologize for it."

"Forget it! There are already a bunch of hard hearted people in the world like me so you can keep being a good heart. Good thing you have me to watch over you.."

"I am happy to have you." Joreen gave Reen a back hug.

"But seriously, you shouldn't go meet that—"

"I know." Joreen cut in. "I already told her I won't be coming there anymore. I asked her to apologize to sister Heya for the name calling if she didn't want to get into the family's bad book. Surprisingly, she told me she'll try to meet her tomorrow if her face feels better because she also has questions to ask."

"You must be proud of yourself." Reen snorted.

Joreen grinned, "Not everything should be handled with violence. Maybe when I was younger, I would have pulled her hair and called her name, but I've had a lot of experience growing up. Seen different things in the entertainment industry and read a lot of scripts that made me change the way I think. "

Rewn rolled her eyes.

"You can never be a disciple of aunt Changyu."

"That is why we have you in our generation, and Li Queen in the next generation."

Reen laughed before turning around to hug her younger sister. "I'm sorry you're having such a terrible birthday. I feel partially at fault for what happened."

"That reminds me..." Joreen pushed away from the hug to look at her, "What happened with Zichu? Is he okay?"

"Couldn't find him. I'll return in the evening to know what exactly happened and apologize on Kyle's behalf. That boy is a bastard and I regret inviting him here— I think these clothes are enough... right?"

"Yea. It's just one night. Tomorrow, we go sailing again. Hopefully, sister Heya and Yan Suyin would have settled their differences or else it would be awkward since their rooms are directly across each other."

"Let's hope they do!"

"Everyone is waiting for you Jo!" Jaime called from outside the bedroom's door.

"Coming!" Joreen yelled at the door and tried to zip her dress. "I wish Reen was here... this is so frustrating."

Reen had left a few minutes earlier to go look for Zichu again since it was already evening.

"Finally!" She groaned when she succeeded in zipping it up and turned around. She look at the bed where Heya was sleeping and frowned sadly.

"Should I get you anything later?" Joreen asked.

"No. I'll be fine. Thanks."

Since there wasn't any free rooms, Heya was staying in theirs. The family had offered to reshuffle to create a room but she refused to impose on anyone. At last, Reen and Joreen had to convince her she could stay with them.

"I just... I don't know how you are going to take this, but I figured I should let you know since you may find out one way or the other..." Joreen bit her lip when she saw Heya turning to look at her curiously.

"When I went to your room earlier, I happened to see Yan Suyin. She didn't look too good so I tried to make her feel better and also helped with an ice pack for her face."

"Was... it really that bad?" Heya asked, her eyes looked very sad.

"I'm sure she'll feel better by tomorrow." Joreen answered but didn't move. "You... aren't angry right?"

"Of course not!" Heya sat up. "I would have gone there myself if only I had the courage to."

Joreen sighed in relief. "And just so you know, me helping her out doesn't mean I endorse anything she did or said to you–"

"I did worse to her." Heya cut her off.

"She took me as her friend and I lied to her. Also kept the truth away from her. I would hate me too if I were her."

Suyin was a talkative and obviously clingy, but she had been a good friend to Heya. She had helped Heya with her make up on the first night, always wanted her to hang out instead of staying inside her room, even when she had seen Liang and pretended she was sick, Suyin continued to check up on her even when she always turned her away.

If only she had told the truth from the onset.

Joreen smiled a little. "You are going to be fine. You've been good at sorting things out. If it makes you feel better, I can skip all this tonight and binge watch a kdrama with you." She offered. Heya finally laughed for the first time in hours or probably the whole day.

"That's not a good way to celebrate your 18th birthday. You should have fun."

"If you change your mind, just give me a call, okay?" She said as she began to head towards the door.

Just before Joreen stepped out, Heya called her, stopping her from leaving,

"Thank you." Heya said sincerely.

Joreen flashed her a smile before leaving the room.

AUTHOR'S NOTE:

HELLO! I actually planned to upload this chapter yesterday, but I wanted to know what the readers thought about Joreen's attitude towards Suyin.

We must all know that people are different and also interpret things differently.

If I was in Joreen's shoes, maybe I would have done same or simply walked away, I don't know. But I believe experiences in life shapes how a person thinks.

I have always believed in writing something realistic and that was why I gave Reen the other kind of reaction since I know there are a lot of people who would also see it from her perspective.

But in general, let us try to analyse a situation properly before we make a decision.

The readers know what a clingy person Suyin is to Zhu Liang despite the fact that he doesn't love her, but the CHARACTERS of this story doesn't know so. The only ones aware are the Yan family, Zhu Liang and Heya.

So let's say for example, you are in Joreen's shoes and obviously just thinks Liang broke up with Suyin after meeting Heya here, how would your reaction have been?
