Mu Zhichen gave his phone to her. 

"Hello mom." 

"Honey, where did you run off to?" As expected, Wan Jia was looking for her too. 

"Mom, you don't have to worry. Help me tell Xian Yu that I'll look for him when I get back. I'm at Mu Zhichen's." 

Wan Jia coughed on the other side. "Oh... ahem... then you don't have to worry about us. Please continue with what you were doing." She hung up right after saying this. 

Lu Meili was speechles. Mom, people would easily misunderstand such words. As an elder, what example are you setting for me?

Ignoring her dirty-minded mother, she returned the phone to Mu Zhichen. 

However, something caught her eye as soon as she gave it back. 

She had called Wan Jia just now. But the entry before that... 

'Cute Little Wife'?! 

Her expression changed. This Mu Zhichen... 

"Is anything wrong?" Mu Zhichen's heart skipped a beat when he saw the weird look in her eyes. 

"No. Nothing's wrong. I'll feed the cats. They must be hungry." 

Mu Zhichen held her hand. "Meili, you are a grown up woman so I'm sure you know this; if a husband and wife keep hiding things from each other, the small mole hills build into mountains. Relationships can break apart because of tiny misunderstandings, you know." 

Lu Meili looked at him blankly. She wasn't intending to probe into his personal affairs. It was just a contact number. Perhaps that was his friend and that name didn't matter. Or perhaps he was yet to get used to the fact that he would be engaged soon. It wasn't a big deal...

But if he put it this way, he did have a point. Although she would never admit it, she was displeased. "Mu Zhichen, although we are not engaged yet, our purpose of being together is marriage." 

"Yes." 

Lu Meili glared at him. What in the world was 'yes'? 

"Anyway, your 'Cute Little Wife called earlier. You must have missed her call." 

Mu Zhichen burst into laughter. 

Just now, he had thought that she was displeased by his phone wallpaper - a photo of her from years ago. She was wearing a deep red gown that was too seductive. 

So she was not upset because of this, but because of that contact name? 

"What's so funny?" 

"You are funny. Tell me, are you jealous?" 

"Why would I be jealous? Anyway, there's no woman who would like it if her future husband kept calling other women his wives, is there?"

Mu Zhichen's heart beat faster. "Well... what if... what if that 'cute little wife' is the woman herself? 

"Is that supposed to mean something?" 

He took her hand and placed the phone on her palm, displaying the full contact. 

Lu Meili took a look and had the urge to giggle. This man was full of surprises. Since when was she a cute little wife? 

Though she had to reluctantly admit, that name did make her feel a little happy... just a little.

"Speaking of which, you gave me a call ten minutes ago? But we were together at the time." Not only that, she had left her phone at home too. 

Lu Meili remained silent for a while. "Perhaps my brother tried to reach me by calling you." 

"You miss him?" Mu Zhichen noticed that she suddenly looked out of place. 

"No. I just... suddenly have a bad feeling." Lu Xian Yu tried to reach her using her phone? If it was an urgent matter, he would have asked to speak to her when she called Wan Jia just now. She was sure that they were both home.

Or perhaps it was important but he didn't want to bother her? Why... 

Why was heart suddenly beating so fast? 

"Mu Zhichen, something doesn't feel right. I want to go back home." 

Mu Zhichen couldn't make head or tail of what was going on but he agreed. She would only feel at ease if she went home right now.

Lu Meili's instinct was right. Something had indeed gone wrong. 

As they approached Southside, she saw that a small crowd had gathered at the roadside on the opposite side. They seemed to be taking photos and fiming videos of something. 

Upon closer inspection, a car had crashed into the rails of the bridge and broken them. What was worse, it was on the verge of falling into the lake. Any careless movement and it would fall off the bridge. 

Lu Meili's heart almost stopped beating. "That... 

That is Xixi's car!" 

Mu Zhichen was taken aback. Someone she knew? "The car is crashed beyond recognition. Perhaps you saw it wrongly." 

"No. It's really Xixi's car. No wonder I kept having a bad feeling. Stop right here." 

Mu Zhichen pulled up. He couldn't waste time or Lu Meili would lose rationality. 

"I can't believe that instead of calling an ambulance or the police, they are busy taking photos and filming videos with their phones." Lu Meili was on the verge of tears. 

Mu Zhichen had already taken out his phone to make a call. 

If it were a normal accident, he would go up there but it would only make it riskier. This required professionals. 

"Three..." 

"I called my friend who is in the military. He will be here soon.

"Two..."

"Huh? What are you counting?" 

"One!" 

"Hey!" 

When he was least expecting it, the little woman suddenly dashed for the bridge. 

"It's dangerous, Meili!" 

Before he finished shouting her name, she was close to Small Xixi's car already. 

Mu Zhichen followed her. How could a woman be so fast?

It was already dangerous for one person to be there and more dangerous for two. If he went over too, they would likely all die. 

A couple of meters away, he tried to talk her out of it. "Meili, my friend will be here in a minute. You have to calm down. If you do anything reckless, that car might fall into the lake along with you and your friend." 

The girl wasn't listening. She was once again counting. 

Mu Zhichen's friend from the military did come. However, he arrived just as Lu Meili pulled Small Xixi out of the car after forcing the door open. 

The car fell off the bridge, exploding on its way down. 

Lu Meili tumbled from Small Xixi's weight and missed a step. 

Screams filled the air. The onlookers closed their eyes, not wanting to see her fall right into the same spot that car had fallen. 

Luckily, Mu Zhichen held her hand. His other hand was holding a rail tightly. Heaven knew if it would hold all that weight until his friend reached the spot.

"When did you get here?"

"Even on the verge of death, you still have time to ask questions?" It was hard to understand women. 

"She's my best friend. That car was about to explode. I couldn't let her die. If... even if she has to die, we will die together." 

"The same goes for me. I cannot let my wife die in such a situation and live myself."

In hospital, Lu Meili was beside herself. "Doctor, is Xixi alright?" 

The doctor answered her for the twentieth time. "The surgery is still on. We will know when it is over." 

Lu Meili sat on the bench, next to Mu Zhichen. He held her in his arms. "It's okay. She will be fine." 

"She will?" 

"No friend would see their friend risk her life for them and still leave her. She knows how sad you would be if that happened." 

Lu Meili felt reassured. 

"Where's my sister?" Xu Tang was finally here. 

Lu Meili took one glance and looked aside. 

When she opened the car door to pull Small Xixi out, she had seen her own phone next to the girl. She ddin't know why Small Xixi had her phone but she must have been the one who used it to call Mu Zhichen. Perhaps when she knew that she was in danger, she thought of contacting her best friend first.

That was not the main point here. Was this man so unreliable that when such a thing happened to his sister, she didn't use her own phone to call him, but chose to unlock her best friend's phone to call for help? 

Yet, he was audacious enough to come here, demanding to see his sister like he owned the ability to perform surgery?

She remembered how everyone was filming videos instead of trying to help. 

If they were a little late, wouldn't Small Xixi be dead already? 

The shameless man approached Lu Meili when he saw her. "Meili, how is my sister? Is she badly injured?" 

Lu Meili didn't bother to answer him. 

Mu Zhichen lifted his head to glower at Xu Tang . "My fiancée is still traumatized. I would highly appreciate it if you didn't bother her." As though it was too itchy to keep it in, Mu Zhichen harrumphed. "You are always late, don't you think? First it was Meili. You didn't love her while she was into you and when you finally did, she was gone; and now, what would become of your sister if she had waited for you to save her?"
