Nurse Li spoke quickly, "The chairman of Long group suddenly collapsed in a sudden cardiac arrest while going for his morning run. The hospital's ambulance was called and we responded immediately. But the problem is the medics just called to say that they couldn't shock his heart back into rythm".

There might not seem to be any problem on the surface but underneath, there's a very big problem. Here's the thing.

When someone goes into cardiac arrest and the first reponders can't shock their heart back into rythm, there is virtually no chance of survival. So bringing the person to the hospital is just a formality.

And this is what the Chief surgeon, the nurse understood and other cardiologists out there understood.

The Chief stood up immediately as she shouted furiously, "What are the medics doing? Since they could not restore the heart's normal rythm after shocking it three times, they would have called much earlier, where they waiting for him to die before giving us a call? Hurry up and give them a call".

The Chief sighed as he continued to say angrily, "Tell them to connect the patient to an automatic CPR machine to preserve the patient's heart and organ function in their way here. Hurry up".

Then the nurse rushed out of the office in a hurry to relay the message.

The reason Chief Surgen Qui was so flustered is because, the patient in question is not just an ordinary CEO, he was a former minster of the country and therefore has accumulated more power and resources over the years.

Another reason is that his family is very troublesome. They won't let things go if he dies, they would find trouble with the hospital even if it's no one's fault.

Immediately the nurse left, Chief Surgeon Qui tugged on his tie till it went off his neck, while the other hand rested on his waist.

He kept muttering to the hearing of himself and Chen Lihua, "What is wrong with these people. Why on earth did they remember to call our hospital Ambulance as if there is no other private or government hospital out there. I know they are just looking for trouble in this hospital, and to blame me as well".

"Ah! my enemies want to bring me down. They are just going to bring in a dead body here or a brain dead patient since there's no solution. I think is better we prepare the cath lab just for formalities sake".

As Chief Surgeon Qui said this sentence, his hands ran through his hair, and then down to his face before resting on his two sides helplessly. He said the last sentence looking at Chen Lihua asked if asking for her opinion.

Chen Lihua who had been thinking and not said anything since, now had an opportunity to talk.

She first looked up and stared at the Chief who was already looking dishealved and restless.

Chen Lihua saw him in a new light now. She wondered if the man she was seeing now, was the same man that was sitting properly and composedly, and also had smiles on his face while talking to her.

Chen Lihua shook her head to remove the thoughts from her head as she said to herself business first.

"Chief there's no need to panic as there is a solution, we just need to go and prepare the cath lab right now as the ambulance is on the way, and will soon get here. We don't want to look foolish, do we?".

The Chief taught there is finally an answer to his prayers, so he said, "There's a solution? So what on earth are we waiting for, let's go. You can explain to me on our way to the lab".

The Chief said as he grabbed his lab coat from the hanger before leaving with Chen Lihua in a hurry.

"There is a new protocol that was tested at the Ohio State University Wexmer Medical Center, and it's already saving lives, increasing survival rates from 0 to about 40%. The extracorpoeal cardiopulmonary resuscitation (ECPR) protocol was developed through a partnership with the Columbus Division of fire. It is initiated by EMS. Since they medics has already used the Automatic CPR to preserve the patient's brain and organ per your instruction, the next step is to prepare the ECMO machine".

At this point, Chen Lihua finally found the chance to breath before continuing.

"The ECMO machine allows the heart and lungs to rest while the doctors perform a heart cathetirization to find the problem, which is usually a blocked artery".

By now, the Chief Surgeon was already smiling after Chen Lihua finished explaining to him.

This seamless process from the field where he collapsed while on his morning walk and then to the cath lab gives the doctors a chance to fix what caused the the cardiac arrest, the chance they didn't have before.

As Help was on their side, they reached the cath lab and so the Chief surgeon orders the doctors and nurses to immediately prepare the ECMO machine and other equipments ready.

After ordering them, He turned to Chen Lihua with a smile as he said, "Once this surgery is successful which I believe would be, you're already going to be my personal assistant during any heart transplant".

After saying his piece, he turned to walk away while saying, "Dr Chen prepare for this particular surgery now".

In the cath lab, Chen Lihua, The Chief surgeon and other cardiologist were already dressed and waiting for the patient.

Upon arrival, they patient bypassed the emergency room and was taken straight to the heart catheterization lab, where he was connected to the ECMO machine.

Once the patient was placed on the surgery bed, The Chief Surgeon's voice rang out.

"Quickly connect him to the ECMO machine so we could rest the heart and the lungs. Next, we would work on the heart to try to get it restarted and beating".
