The King's Beloved Chapter 36

"My dear daughter, why the long face?" Mitis continued to cuddle her daughter. "Such a waste of your cute face! You don't need to be like your brother, you know? I know you're twins but still -"
"What brought you here? Had a vision?" Clavis asked.
Illumináire kept her gaze on Selena. "Yes, and I need you to interpret them".
"Of course. Should we go to the temple?"
"Agreed".
"Hey wait - I haven't even -," Mitis tried to stop them but before she finished her words, the twins vanished into thin air. "Ahh … those two are at it again. They don't love their mother anymore".
"Maybe it's something urgent, ahm … mother?" Selena tried to console her.
Mitis eyes shimmered upon hearing the word 'mother'.
"Why yes, I have a daughter-in-law now, if they won't let me spoil them, then I'm going to spoil you instead!"
Selena gulped and smiled awkwardly at her, "Ugh - hehehe, thanks?"
And so, Mitis accommodated Selena for the whole day. She helped redecorate Clavis' room, introduced her to the members of the family via their portraits that hung on the wall of their gallery, and many others. Now, they're having tea time to take some rest from all the hard work.
After taking some tea, Mitis returned to her usual graceful self. She was done doing her drama queen acting. Now, she wanted to have a serious conversation with Selena. She laid down her tea cup and faced Selena, looking at her eyes directly.
"She must have noticed it too," Mitis started. "Illumináire, I mean. The moment she arrived, you immediately caught her attention".
Selena was confused. "Hmm? Noticed what? That I'm human? Well, that's easy to tell since I don't have a spiritual aura like you all, right?"
Mitis shook her head. "Yes, that is one, but there's more".
Selena tilted her head. Then, put her tea cup down the table. "More?"
Mitis simply smiled gently at her and said, "Selena … your name suits you".

"Ahm, thank you … mother," Selena gave a light blush.
"Oh, and thank you for getting along with Clavis' ridiculous attempt to fool me".
At these words, Selena became frozen on her seat.
"Fufufufu … I know everything that happened, of course! He thought he could fool me? I am once the most blessed Oracle, afterall!"
"Huh?! So - you knew all along?" Selena looked dismayed. "That Clavis, I thought he was smart".
"Fufufu! Well, he is, but he can't fool me".
"I'm sorry for lying, ma'am," she changed her greeting now since she felt so guilty.
"No worries, my dear. Besides, you never really lied to me. Your answer to my question was the truth. And please, don't stop calling me mother!"
"B-but …,"
"It's alright. Besides, I will indeed be your mother".
"But we're not in love -"
"Hmm … yes, you're right … for now," Mitis confidently answered.
"Eh?"
"Fufufufu," Mitis laughed mischievously. "Oh! And before I forget, don't tell Clavis that I already know, okay? I still love to watch his futile attempt to deceive me".
"Ehh?!" Selena didn't want to agree but she couldn't really refuse a face like that. She sighed afterwards and nodded.
"Hurray!" Mitis was so happy, she clapped her hands.
"Ahm, m-mother, can I ask you something?"
"Sure! What is it?"
"Before, Clavis said something about … vision? And interpreting it?"
"Oooh, right! He never explained that part to you, huh?"
"Well, he never really explained anything to me".
"But of course. Let me explain then. We, the Sortis family, is a line of family that has been loyal to the throne since the beginning of time. We have always stood and served the royal family and guided them along the way like what Guardians do. You are familiar with Guardians, right?"
"Yes, we were vaguely taught about them. They were Sacred Beasts that hold immense power that can rival the king".
"That's right. But they never fought with the royal family. Instead, they formed pacts or contracts with them. And just like them, we have formed a pact with the royal family to always be loyal and honest to the throne, and be their right hand. And it all started with deep friendship. Our ancestors had always been good friends with the very first king. And on and on it went".

"Wow, that's awesome! A very long history of friendship".
"Yes, indeed it is. Aside from that, we help guide the king in ruling over the world. We, the Sortis family, have been blessed by the Supreme Being of what we call "holy energy" as a gift for our loyalty. With that holy energy, we were able to become the most powerful family, next to the royal family. And also, we were given 'gifts' by the Supreme Being as well".
"Gifts? Supreme Being?"
"Yes, the Supreme Being is our God, the Most High, and the Creator. And as for the gifts, they were special abilities. All the male in our family had the ability to 'interpret dreams and prophecies', while the women had the ability to 'see visions and dreams'. Though for the visions and dreams, we could only see what the Supreme Being allows us to see. Then, the men in our family will interpret them. That's why we're mostly known to be a family of 'priests and priestesses' since we commune with the Supreme Being and our power comes from Him unlike the normal Magi who uses spiritual energies from nature".
"Ahh, I see. Wow! Your family is so cool! I never knew that. We were never told that before".
"Maybe your house leaders thought you didn't need to know about us, since you were all supposed to serve the king".
"Yes, that's right," Selena who was on edge a moment ago, started to relax her shoulders. "Somehow, I'm glad I ended up here then".
"Uhm, destiny has its way," Mitis smiled gently towards her again.
Selena smiled back to her. "Oh! Then, does that mean, Clavis' twin saw something? Illumináire was her name right?"
"Yes, she did. She is the Oracle afterall".
"Oracle? Is that different from a priestess?"
"Yes, very different. There can only be one Oracle in a generation. Priestesses are limited to see visions and dreams about the past and the present. However, the one chosen to be Oracle is blessed with the ability to see the future, thus, making her the most important seer. And her chosen interpreter is the only one who can decipher the meaning of her visions".
"And that's Clavis, right?"
"Yes. Those twins, they're really special. Sometimes, I wonder what it is that they see and know that made their faces look like that," Mitis smiled wryly.
Selena didn't know how to respond. "Ahmm, well, if it made them that expressionless, maybe it's something bad?"
Mitis sighed. "That's … what I'm thinking as well". She grew sadder by the minute.
"But!" Selena did her best to be cheerful. "My friend told me that … our decisions shape our future! So … that means, the future can change, right?"
Mitis was surprised with what Selena said. She thought for a moment as she held her chest then, her eyes widened in expectation. "Of course! You're right … the future can change!". She let out a deep sigh of relief and finally, let out a warm smile. "Yes, how can I forget?" Tears could be seen in the corner of her eyes.
"Hmm? Forget what?"
"A prophecy … one that every Magi knows. It was a prophecy of hope foretold by the very first Oracle! Our ancestor!"
"Prophecy .. of hope?"
"It goes like this …
Make way! Make way!
The dragon roars for our savior has come!
With dress as pure as white,
and eyes burning yet calm.
Favoured by the Supreme, she stands
A maiden that is not one of us will save us…"

Legendary Farmer (available on Kindle July 2022!)
NOTE: Legendary Farmer is now COMPLETE. The first book, Clearing, was released on Kindle Unlimited July 5, 2022 with significant edits. I will post the first chapter of Clearing, as well as three chapters of Cuckoo's Dream, another novel in the LF universe, as a stub, with a link to the first book, so if you love LF and want me to be able to keep writing consistently, please go give Clearing five stars! In the VRMMORPG, Veritas Online, things are getting a little stale. Since the game launched, only one world- wide event has occurred, and that was a year ago.. The players are still having fun, but everyone agrees it’s about time for something big to happen. Everybody tends to forget that big things grow from small things, and little things are always changing in Veritas. The human country of Quarternell is at peace for the first time in... ever. Aspen, a former war hero, feels like he’s earned a quiet life together with his animal companions. They’re tired of fighting, and other people in general. They plan to live peacefully, far away from the city. As soon as Aspen figures out this farming thing out, he’s never going to go anywhere again. Unfortunately for Aspen, his country and his goddess aren’t quite done with him yet.Rouge the Rogue is a casual gamer in Veritas Online. She’s just a kid, and her focus is supposed to be on school and hanging out with friends. Emphasis on ‘supposed to’. She’s already pretty good at the school thing, and she doesn’t actually have that many friends. What she really loves is exploring all the cool ways the developers of Veritas found to make their game unique and realistic. Then she’s offered a very special quest, and an opportunity to go beyond the average player. She’s never been that much of a rule follower anyway....Clearing is appropriate for most ages. It has minimal foul language, no sex, and some violence. It is LGBTQ+ friendly. (P.S. IMPORTANT! This book contains very mild profanity, no sex, and is meant to be FUN. Yes, the characters sometimes think Deep Thoughts, and idealism pretty much runs rampant, but, in the end, I hope you just enjoy reading it. Laugh, cry, share it with your kids, read it to your dog, whatever makes you happy. My goal is for it to be accessible to everyone from ages 12ish on up, so you could definitely consider it YA, but with lots of big words because I don't believe in talking down to my readers.) Book Two: Harrowing (Starts after the original Chapter Fifty, now Sixteen, since I condensed chapters from the same perspective together.) Zoey has started her summer internship at Veritas Corporation, and she can honestly say that being an adult is boring. Until she starts learning secrets she was never supposed to know. In game, Rouge is finally making progress on her big quest. Apparently Duke Penbrooke took too long to return to the world, so the world is coming to get him... in the form of a few assassins. Aspen is going to have to face the life he left behind, and deal with the fact that it's not as easy being 'dead' as he thought. When what he'd hoped would be a short trip back to civilization to resupply turns into a whole lot more, he'll have to fight for his life, his friends, and his kingdom. Book Three: Sowing Rouge and Aspen have reached Bright, only to find that their enemies were already expecting them. They will have to quickly unravel the mysteries of who their opponents actually are, because they're already ten steps behind. Rouge and Aspen are finally home, but that doesn't mean they can return to their peaceful days of farming. Their enemies are hot on their heels and determined to destroy everything they've managed to achieve. Join them and all their friends for the final volume of Legendary Farmer.

Thief of Time
[Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Book 1: The Legend of Tot Synopsis: Claud Primus, a self-declared master thief, has a simple goal. To live forever. It's a rather easy task, for miraculous objects called lifestones are able to extend one's lifespan. These lifestones are best found in the treasuries of nobles, lovely resorts that Claud pays a visit to every so often. Unfortunately, one of those nightly visits go awry, and Claud is forced to escape with just a single lifestone and a box in hand. Normally, that's when things die down. The guards yawn, the gates close, and the night continues. But this time, the night isn't that forgiving. A dozen schemes result in the murder of someone important, and with a convenient scapegoat — Claud — at hand, it doesn't take long for him to be framed as a heinous criminal, wanted for the indirect murder of someone high up...and it just gets worse from there. Book 2: The Moon Lords' Rise Synopsis: As ordered chaos sweeps across Licencia, Claud leaves for Julan Barony, intent on making some profits there. Accompanied by the erstwhile heiress of Julan, a fellow member of the Moon Lords, the two plot against the barony's wealth...as well as a promise to bring about its downfall. Meanwhile, back home, the Moon Lords have busied themselves with digesting their gains. Eyes, however, are beginning to turn to this proverbial fish in a small pond. The fishermen are coming. When they cast their hook, what will Dia and the others do? Book 3: Murders under the Moons Synopsis: In the sleepy town of Nachtville, where Claud and Lily are forced to stop at, a set of nasty murders occurs. Victims scream out in fright, before a spear falls from the sky to end their suffering. Cowed and cautious, the master thief and his partner slink in the shadows, their objective that of home... A new task, however, has fallen on Dia. With a trusty helper at her side, she has to set off towards Nachtville itself, to solve the mystery Claud had abandoned. Faced with an enemy whose sole skillset is geared towards killing, how will they succeed? And what dark secrets will they find? Book 4: In the Dark of the Moons Synopsis: The year has ended. The four months of the full moons will soon be followed by two months of the new moons. Duke Istrel's ascension is around the corner. Amidst this political upheaval, Count Nightfall, Licencia's strongest defender, has been called away. The Moon Lords' largest task yet — to protect Licencia in the absence of its ruler — has begun. And yet, trouble is unrelenting. A distinguished personage, one that Claud fears, has been found dead in the county, his brains dug out and his body disemboweled. The inquisitors of the White Church have been dispatched to investigate and apprehend the murderer...as well as the person behind this puppet. Tormented by a call to fight, Claud directs his eyes out of the city, looking for the puppetmaster. Skulking in the shadows, the master thief will soon confront his greatest foe yet. A foe just like him. Book 5: Moonlit Tides and Darkened Seas Synopsis: A new era has begun. For the privileged, the sands of time dribble away for every passing moment, counting down to the arrival of a entity of mythical proportions. The night now harbours shadows and fog, and operatives of the Moons and the Dark clash in shadow. Claud, as usual, is investigating a spate of nasty disappearances in the city, but little does he know what these disappearances truly mean. And yet, a tide is coming. When it finally breaks, what will he do? Book 6: Secrets in Shadow Synopsis: The person behind a strike that would enter the annals of history flees his home, bringing with him the person closest to his heart into a new land and into a new world. Having left Istrel for the first time in his life, the two of them attempt to settle down in foreign lands, only to be caught in the middle of hostilities between two mighty powers grappling for dominion. Yet, none of that has anything to do with him. Following his desires, Claud eventually makes his way to the fabled Celestia Ruins, a fragment of another world. Bearing witness to truths he cannot yet comprehend, he returns from his exploration, a small break away from the machinations of destiny. One thing, however, is for certain. Destiny will not wait for him. Book 7: Reddest Rage Synopsis: Destiny churns on, heedless of mortal machinations, and Claud watches as the battlegrounds between the Moons and the Dark are drawn up. With the forces of the great Dark occupying Lostfon, Claud comes to a startling realisation — that he may have very well be a murderer of heinous proportions. Grappling with that realisation, he struggles to prepare for his Second Tutorial... Back in Istrel, Dia finds herself confronted with a perennial truth. Even in a time of writhing destiny, the machinations between nobles never cease to end — and unfortunately for her, the group once known as the Moon Lords are forced into dealing with a petty squabble between two counts. What they didn't account for, however, was the startling discovery they would soon make... And the shadow of the Red God's Holy Son behind it all. Book 8: Darkness Descends Synopsis: Nightmares haunt the horizon as Claud sinks and awakens from a seeming dream. What was once illusory begins to play out before him, in a way he cannot imagine. Dia, forced to wield arms, begins and ends a battle that opens her eyes to the vast dangers that lurk in this sundered world. Under the banner of humanity and divinity, she beholds the silent, forgotten protectors of Orb...but there is no forgetting the battle between the divinities. The Dark descends, the Moons writhe, and the horns of war blow once more. But this is not their battle. Not yet. Book 9: Moons Muster Synopsis: As more and more events fall into place, Claud finds himself desperate. Not for himself, but for the person who has turned into his world. Armed with the knowledge of a certain future, he approaches the only person that could possibly help him in his time of need, trading information for a promise of help. With that as solace, he returns to the grim task of understanding and seeking, revisiting an ancient, shattered fragment of another world...unleashing changes that he never knew was possible. Back in Istrel, Dia and the others must now navigate around a familiar spirit, who seeks to investigate the death of his master's Bearer. With them as prime suspects, the Seekers of Life must move carefully...but the Coloured Gods are not the only divinities eyeing them closely. The Moons, bristling from repeated defeats, are looking for new recruits, and the Seekers of Life are prime cannon fodder. Above all, destiny marches on, the unfeeling clock a warning to all. The Trial of Aeons will soon arrive. Book 10: Destiny Divine Synopsis: ??? Release frequency: one every few days or something, I guess.
