Chapter 24 – Brothers
Shan He came in without knocking and turned on the lights, cutting Chen Feng’s train of thought off. They didn’t even greet each other when Shan He sat across from Chen Feng.
Chen Feng didn’t mind his brother’s intrusion, instead he gave him the files he needed.
Although their surnames were different, they were brothers by blood. After their parents died on a mission, their squad commander adopted the 2 children they left and cared for them. One kept the Chen’s family name and the other adopted the commander’s name.
Like this, Shan He would be the Shan family’s future master when Old Shan passed away.
“How is it?” Chen Feng asked after Shan He finished looking at the files.
“Thanks to this, we won’t have to ambush them in order to get evidence. We can definitely put Du Cao temporarily in prison,” Shan He smiled calmly, he seldom smiled, but when he did, someone was going to be unlucky, “that is, if we keep this private.”
Chen Feng took his hint and smiled, “got it, though it would be a shame if every nook and cranny of City S were to know about this. It would make it much harder for his backers to get him out, even President Huo would not be able to do it quickly.”

On Chen Daiyu’s side, she and Shan Yijun were currently being entertained by Nanny Meng and Butler Shan.
Chen Daiyu had just come to know that Butler Shan and nanny Meng were married and had a 19 year old child. Their chat wasn’t boring and it distracted Shan Yijun from thinking about Shan He.
They gave them cookies and told them stories from before they were born, there was a calm atmosphere between the four people.

It had been 3 days since Chen Daiyu came to the mansion. Aside from a few awkward moments with Chen Feng, she found no problem in interacting with other people. Being a special agent she was also required to gather information, which many times involved going to parties. She would sometimes join as a co-worker’s daughter or the friend of a rich young lady. Her socializing skills are top notch.
“Little Daiyu, little Yijun… How many times do I have to tell you not to eat snacks before dinner?”
The calm atmosphere turned stormy as all of them turned to look at Lu Ji. Butler Shan and Nanny Meng liked spoiling the children with cookies, but Lu Ji insisted they could only be eaten at certain times.
Both children put their cookies down and immediately admitted they were wrong, as always.
Yes, always.
This was the 6th time they had been caught eating cookies in the few days Chen Daiyu was there.
Butler Shan and Nanny Meng always indulged them, thus they could easily convince them to give them cookies again.
Butler Shan tactfully told Lu Ji about Shan He coming by, causing Shan Yijun to be upset.
Lu Ji droped the subject and looked at the two children, who he knew would not hesitate to eat cookies again. He decidedly took the tray off cookies, threw them a warning glare, and left.
He ate the all when he was out of their sight…

Living in Paradise
The first thing I saw when I woke up was a group of people standing over me shouting "Happy Birthday!!!". Immediately after they start debating what type of world I came from and calling me 'William'. Later on I would learn that everyone here is reborn from another world and many children come with magic or superpowers or other gifts leftover from their old lives. I came from a world that was, to me, typical modernity. To them it was pretty boaring with the only thing interesting about my world being was a higher than average tech level for a non-spacefaring civilization; technology that wouldn't even work in this new world. All I brought with me was a peculiar mindset and the strong suspicion that there must be something more to life. Once everyone started to clear out my mother took me up in her arms, explained how the world works, and then stabbed me in the neck with a knife. I got better. -------------------- This story was written from the central idea of a simple question: What if a videogame like world, with all the normal video-game staples and tropes, was actually a real world? How would that work? How would people understand the universe around them? What sort of weirdness would the world appear to have from the point of view of someone who recognizes the odd nature of the place? And finally, if left to its own devices, how would this type of world ultimately develop?

Makemake
"Makemake—a planet that is found in the far edges of the system known as Sol—was once a metropolis, like all of the other planets that populate the system. Now, like all of the others, it lies as a Sleeping City, forever dormant. No one lives there anymore—it has been vacant for years. In one of the massive cities that used to have a population that was in high numbers a sound could be heard. A distant sound. A beep, or a call, a message—whatever it was, it was an electronic noise. It echoed through the dust cloud filled landscape. The sound went on for a long time. It sat in a sea of quiet; no other noise rolled over the hills and bounced off the ground—only that noise. Only that beep."
