“Okay! My name is Max!”

He dug through his pockets and pulled out a ring. It was a big, thick, and very decorative ring that looked like what a nobleman would wear. But the smirk Max had on as he gave the ring to Eva was more of a sly merchant than a high noble.

“If there is whatever you need to tell me, tap the ring’s gem three times. Then I’ll know.”

“Bwelchh”

Eva made a tearful face. She wanted to get rid of him and move to another town.

When Max mumbled something, the ring shined for a short while. As Eva was admiring the magic she never saw before, an eerie voice flew over her head.

Ah, he knows what I was thinking about. It’s written on the face. A villain’s face.

“That’s an artifact. It’s going to get interesting if you run away with that.”

The mage’s gorgeous blue eyes curved.

“I’ll be the only one having fun though.”

That’s how Eva got the artifact.

Unexpectedly or perhaps Expectedly, Max never contacted even after a week.

It could be that his noble self couldn’t care less for a commoner girl or that he forgot about her—at least that’s what Eva wished for.

His obsession for Brigitta would never diminish but a miracle could have happened that he forgot about Eva. Eva kept praying for that to happen.

She thought Brigitta was more unordinary though.

Eva thought Brigitta would move to the castle to stay there but she came back and said, ‘I don’t like flashy places.’ So as per decided, Brigitta stayed in Eva’s house and went to the palace once in a while.

Thanks to Brigitta’s decision and her cooking skills, Eva had delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner nowadays. She worried if she would gain weight— though Brigitta said she should eat more and that she would look better with some more weight—but she couldn’t put her fork down.

“Today is a bit icier…. ah, I mean cooler than yesterday.”

“Yea. It’s easy to catch a cold in this kind of weather. Ah, give me more soup please.”

“Here, my lady.”

Brigitta said that there were some issues of verifying her as an official swordmaster so a swordmaster from another country had to come to verify her. And that she had to go to the palace for at least 3 months for it.

She also told Eva last night that she was originally defending the Northern Walls in the Herssen jurisdiction but 2 weeks back she found out she could use sword magic so she had to come to the capital.

Brigitta also showed the magic sword in response to Eva’s request. It had a pretty blue color. Brigitta stopped her from getting too close so she couldn’t go nearer but she thought she was very lucky to be able to see such a thing in real life.

“Ah, Bri, Take this scarf with you.”

Eva called on Brigitta who was about to go to the palace and came back with a clumsily-knitted scarf.

“I’m from the North so this much coldness is fine.”

“Still.”

It was a gift from a fan but it would be fine to lend it to her roommate for a day.

Eva had to stay at home and retrospect her manuscript so she wouldn’t need a scarf for a few days. The fan who gifted her the scarf would be fine too, to lend the scarf to the one who cooks for her and is a good reference for the perfect male lead.

Brigitta looked at the holes on the scarf and chuckled.

“Then, thank you.”

“See you later.”

Hm, she could totally use this scene for when….let’s say a wife sending off her husband to work.

Eva smiled adorably not knowing what would happen later in the palace.

Brigitta never saw the Emperor’s eyes tremble that much. His eyes trembled left to right so fast that it looked like they were some creatures.

Certainly, she had no idea. She didn’t do anything yet other than kicking the Duke on his stomach like she did every other morning. It wouldn’t be that the Emperor just realized the preciousness of his cousin that he looked at her that way.

“Your Majesty…..?”

“The scarf……”

“What?”

“N, no. It’s nothing.”

His trembling eyes, faster breathing, and his anxious behavior all screamed ‘it’s not nothing’ so she was suspicious but just quietly nodded.

Plus, she was busy today. There was some paperwork to do to become the Royal Knights’ temporary instructor. She got chills just thinking about the heavy pile of paper the Chancellor gave to her yesterday. Because she knew that was the reduced amount brought to her because she wasn’t fluent in the Kingdom’s language.

It has been 6 years since Brigitta immigrated here and became a knight but paperwork was still a pain in the ass. There was so much paperwork to fill for a high-level knight that she sometimes believed she was scammed.

Brigitta made an I-am-distrurbed-by-you face and bowed to the Emperor and walked towards where the Royal Knights were. The Emperor looked at Brigitta walking away, more precisely, the red scarf she had around her and trembled his eyes again.

That was close. He almost yelled “Author!” in front of the servants and the ministers.

Thinking about it logically, Brigitta wasn’t the author he loved. 8 years ago she was busy fighting against him as part of the Berserker tribe.

But the scarf she had around her was definitely the scarf he knitted: the one he got so angry midway of knitting that he smashed the pillar in his bedroom. He recognized the lousy holes he made with the absurdly good memory of the Rumilesa bloodline.

He could immediately deduce how Brigitta had the scarf.

“Is the person she’s living with the author…..”

His emotional voice faded away.

The servants froze up from the Emperor’s serious face and quietly spread the urgent news.

— His Majesty is a little weird today.

*.·:·.☽✧ ✦ ✧☾.·:·.*

To aged servants, the Emperor was not a tacky person to serve. First of all, he did not order ambiguous things as the previous Emperor did nor did he complain about the complicated paperwork.

The only wished he would fix his eagerness of trying to fix everything himself but he was a very considerate Emperor who acknowledged their hard work and was careful of his intimidating aura.

However, even he did some weird things. For example, only allowing specific people in his library and training rigorously alone at night.

They wondered if the times when he yells Duke Gardelli’s name and says something about murdering him would count as one of those weird things but generally he did weird things a few times a month.

Everytime he did, sometimes the round table in the audience hall would break into half and the Sun Castle Dining room table would be chopped into four and most recently one of his majesty’s bedroom pillars almost broke.

So when the news was heard that his majesty was weird today, it meant that something could break in the castle today.

Therefore butler Frantz and head maid Esmeralda followed the Emperor with a serious face. They got chills from his especially intimidating aura today.

He seemed to be in a good mood thanks to Lord Emmerich so they wished he would at least tell them what made him so mad but he barely spoke to them in the first place. Esmeralda always thought she must have done something wrong to him when he was a child since he barely spoke to her.

“What could be the matter today, butler.”

“No idea, head maid. He’s been that way after he saw Lord Emmerich…..though they did nothing but greet each other.”

They were very confused, not knowing the Emperor was contemplating whether to ask Brigitta for his favorite author’s identity or not.

*.·:·.☽✧ ✦ ✧☾.·:·.*

The Emperor could not focus the whole day.

Even if he decided to ask Brigitta, they did not cross paths the whole day today. He had piles of work to process as the Emperor of the Kingdom and she had the great responsibility of training the knights.

Just about when the ministers were about to choose who would ask the Emperor what’s wrong, that thing caught the Emperor’s eyes.

“Chancellor.”

“Yes, your majesty.”

“Do I look like a fool to you?”

“Sorry?”

The Chancellor made a very astounded face.

The finance minister jumped on his chair. The Emperor didn’t care about him and handed a document to the Chancellor.

When the Chancellor’s face distorted into a bitter expression, ministers twice as old as the Emperor started pretending they were busy.

“Who is the high bastard that processed the letter from Cartul’s prince?”

The Chancellor looked at the seal on the top and glanced at the foreign affairs minister. The foreign affairs minister spilled the ink.

“Ah, don’t be so hard on him Chancellor. He was on vacation and just came back yesterday. He must have not wanted to work so he just processed the documents without carefully assessing it.”

“That makes sense. Simply putting seals is the public order minister’s specialty. Perhaps you want to consider a side job?”

“Noooooooo! I-i will do wwwwwwwell!”

“Okay do wwwwwwwell. Do you have anything to say foreign affairs minister?”

“I will fix it! I will make sure this won’t happen again!”

Count Maron the Public Order Minister shook his head to the point his wig was about to fall off and Marques Villiore sweated to the point people started worrying if he would get dehydration. And the finance minister, Count Pillbourne started going through his documents with cautious eyes.

The Chancellor decided to deal with the two nobles later and also to check the finance department’s project file and put his focus back on the current issue.

To the letter from Cartul’s prince that caught the Emperor’s attention right away today.
