The Numbers That Brought Our Fates Together Chapter 45: Look Only At Me.

"Hello."

"Hi, long time no see."

"Yes. Long time indeed. Sorry," David took Elena's hand and raised it to his lips. "I hope you are not very mad at me for such a long absence?"

"You bet I'm mad! You never even called me once for the whole month!" Rick butted in the dialogue of two lovers who had not seen each other for a long time.

Elena looked at Rick with a reproach. Although they were not alone here, and this was to be expected, but could he show even a little spark of tactfulness? At times like this, he reminded her of Jason's behavior. "And this guy is sometimes not so perfect. Maybe Jason will have a chance sometime. Although … not really," Elena thought, watching Rick hold David tightly as if they hadn't seen each other for several years.

"Sorry, friend, I was really very busy. And in those short minutes of free time that I had, I preferred to hear the voice of my girlfriend, not yours," David answered him.

"Ugh, what a meaner. And I was so lonely," Rick continued the conversation in the same style.

"I doubt it," David slyly looked at Corey, which made her smile shyly. "I'm sure you've spent your free time more than well. And I think you had a lot of it."

"Hey, by the way, I planned the entire marketing campaign of Lee Pharmaceuticals, so your girlfriend now has a very impressive dowry. Be grateful!"

"Yes, yes, I am very grateful. Your contribution here granted me a strong competitor."

"Business is business, buddy," Rick grinned cheerfully.

"And personal life is personal life. So please excuse us, we will leave you," David answered and led Elena away from the noisy and annoying company.

"Where are we going?"

"What does it mean where? Of course, to the very center of the room, my dear!" David replied to Elena, and a treacherous smile appeared on his face.

"What? What for?"

"You will find out now."

Light and pleasant music was playing in the hall. The live orchestra delighted the guests with their virtuoso performance of both classical and modern melodies. People actively discussed the latest news and strengthened useful contacts, and only one man figured out to invite his woman to a slow dance.

David stopped in the very center of the room, gently wrapped his arm around Elena's waist and pulled the girl to him. He firmly squeezed her hand in his second hand and began to move slowly to the beat of the music, forcing the girl to follow him in unison.

Hundreds of eyes instantly rushed in the direction of a couple, dancing gracefully in the very center and not paying attention to other people.

"What are you doing?! Everybody is looking at us!" Elena whispered in a panic.

David just grinned, "Well, so what? Let them watch! And you only look at me. Forget about them and look only at me," he whispered in her ear.

Elena raised her head and looked at David. The fascinating abyss of his dark eyes again, like a magnet, chained the girl to him. The surrounding space was gone from her sight; she was completely absorbed by his gaze. "Now I understand how moths feel when they fly into the light," she thought and smiled.

"I see you having fun again? You have an interesting habit of thinking about something when you're dancing with me, don't you?" David asked, watching how Elena's emotions changed in a matter of minutes.

"What do you mean?" Elena was surprised, completely unaware of what he meant.

"That time, when we danced for the first time. I remember that you were very tense, and then for no reason at all, you began to giggle. It was quite funny, you know."

"Aah, you're talking about that first time …"

The man leaned closer and whispered in a languid voice, "Your hands trembled and you were afraid to even look in my direction. It was so cute. Therefore, I could not resist the temptation not to tease you."

"So you mean to say that you saw perfectly how worried I was, but still made me even more nervous?" Elena was ready to explode with indignation, remembering that embarrassing situation.

"That's how it was," David confirmed her words, absolutely not feeling any guilt behind him.

"Mr. Anderson, are you ready to voice your last wish before dying?"

"Haha, I will gratefully accept anything from your hands, my dear. But here is one wish I would like to fulfill right now," he replied, and playful lights lit up in his eyes.
