Chapter 256: Becoming a Hero, Unpalatable Choice
After screening the options available, Leoux finally decided to deploy the Insectoid Queen near a white hole about five thousand light-years away from the solar system.
A white hole was a cosmic object that generally existed in the universe. Theoretically speaking, there were as many black holes in the universe as there were white holes.
There were tens of billions of white holes in the entire Milky Way alone. Leoux had selected the one located at the edge of the Milky Way—far away from the territory of the aliens and Ayang-Braend Tribe—to allow the Insectoid Queen to expand its clan at ease.
“Leoux, how long does it take to reach this white hole?”
“At the rate that ‘Battleship Leoux’ is moving, it will take about three months.”
“Of course, after we arrive at that white hole, I will create a wormhole that leads to Earth based on the gravitational mark left on the planet. Therefore, it will be very convenient for us to travel to that white hole in the future!”
“When do you plan to leave?”
“I will leave sooner rather than later, right after I send you back to Earth!”
“Okay!”
Leoux sent Ling Jiu back to Earth and left the planet on the battleship.
“Take care!”
Emperor Might and Vulcan had seemingly been waiting for Ling Jiu’s return. They welcomed him once they noticed that he had returned through the dimensional fissure.
“Ling Jiu!”
“Brother Ling Jiu!”
“Boss! Brother Vulcan!”
Vulcan could not wait to probe Ling Jiu after they greeted each other. “Brother Ling Jiu, how is the situation on the other side of this dimensional fissure?
“Well, it’s a long story.”
Ling Jiu briefly told them about the world on the other side of the dimensional fissure. Obviously, he was selective about the information he shared, filtering out details that should not be made known.
Despite that, Emperor Might and Vulcan were still stunned as they listened to him. “So, you’ve destroyed the Insectoid Army’s lair?”
‘Is that something a person can do?’
‘It’s unbelievable!’
‘But it’s possible if the person is Ling Jiu.’
First of all, Ling Jiu possessed the ability to create wormholes. Hence, the distance between two star systems was not an issue for him.
Second of all, he was able to devour anything. Therefore, no matter how big the size of an Insectoid Army was, he could just devour it all. It made no difference whether there were millions or tens of millions of them.
Although Ling Jiu’s words sounded farfetched, Emperor Might and Vulcan decided to buy his story.
Moreover, if Ling Jiu had lied, they would find out sooner or later. The dimensional fissure was still there, so the Insectoid army would still pass through it if it had not been wiped out.
As such, it was pointless for Ling Jiu to brag about it.
“Brother Ling Jiu, you have saved Earth! You are the savior of the human race!” Vulcan held Ling Jiu’s hands tightly, his eyes filled with admiration.

“It’s my duty as a member of the human race!”
Ling Jiu smiled. He then pointed at the dimensional fissure and said, “I’ve fixed the dimensional fissure, so anyone can pass through it!”
“Really?” Vulcan and Emperor Might’s eyes flashed with anticipation and excitement.
No matter how persuasive Ling Jiu was, they would feel more convinced if they could witness the end of the Insectoid army in person.
Being able to pass through that dimensional fissure meant that they could confirm Ling Jiu’s story—he had erased the entire Insectoid army.
“Of course!” Ling Jiu nodded lightly.
“Please wait for a moment, Brother Ling Jiu. We will go to the other side first.”
Vulcan and Emperor Might headed toward the dimensional fissure after they excused themselves. They disappeared not long after they reached the depth of the fissure.
Ling Jiu knew it would take them a while to come out of there, so while he sat up in the air with his legs crossed, he called Bai Ya on his cell.
“Honey, I’ve crushed the Insectoid army. You can relax!”
“Really?” Bai Ya could not believe it.
“Why would I lie to you?” Ling Jiu smiled and added, “Leoux and I just entered the dimensional fissure at the bottom of the Pacific Ocean and destroyed the Insectoid Army’s lair!”
“That’s great!” Bai Ya was overjoyed.
She was aware of how great the Insectoid army’s strength was, but it was nothing compared to Leoux’s.
“I can finally feel relieved!”
Bai Ya stretched her body, feeling a little tired.
Although the Insectoid army had not attacked Hong Kong Base City over the past few days, she had been keeping her guard up constantly. During those stressful days, her nerves grew tight. Now she could finally be at ease.
“Rest well!” Ling Jiu then comforted her with a smile. “Let’s practice our cultivation at Whitehole 2 in two days’ time.”
“All right, will do. Remember to rest well too!”
After Ling Jiu ended his call with Bai Ya, he called Ling’er and told her the news. Following that, he continued to wait for Vulcan and Emperor Might.
A day later, once Vulcan and Emperor Might returned, they announced the news to the world officially.
Numerous people in the world immediately shed tears and immersed themselves in the ocean of joy.
Even though the event had only lasted for three days, they were three nightmarish and terrifying days for many people.
…
Meanwhile, Vulcan and Emperor Might brought Ling Jiu to Pangu Arcana Combine’s headquarters. They were served champagne and delicious food the moment they arrived at the headquarters’ restaurant.
“You wiped out the entire Insectoid army alone, Brother Ling Jiu. You are the hero of humankind!” Vulcan held his champagne glass up. “Let’s toast to our hero!”
“Cheers!” Emperor Might held his glass up too.
Without any other choice, Ling Jiu could only hold his glass up to them.

Emperor Might drank down the glass of champagne and burped before he asked, “Ling Jiu, you can even slaughter a stellar lifeform easily now. Just be honest with me, I’m d*mn curious. What’s your current level of cultivation?”
Emperor Might only realized that his question was rather abrupt after he questioned Ling Jiu, so he added, “Of course, I don’t mean to pry into your secrets. You don’t have to tell me if you don’t want to. It doesn’t matter!”
“To be specific, I can’t really tell…” Ling Jiu gave him a bitter smile “…because I’m not using the solar system as a template to evolve a stellar system!”
Emperor Might and Vulcan looked at each other without a word.
“When I was communicating with 1269, I was told that there’s a perfect stellar system. There are nine stellar stars in the system. Each stellar star has nine planets and each planet has nine satellites.”
Ling Jiu continued to speak slowly. “So in total, there are 9 plus 81 plus 6,561 cosmic objects in that stellar system. Therefore, I’m using it as a template to evolve my elixir field’s stellar system.”
“You…”
Emperor Might and Vulcan looked at each other again and smiled bitterly. “You’re crazy, Brother Ling Jiu. Don’t you know that it could risk your future?”
“Why?” Ling Jiu frowned.
“1269 is an intelligent lifeform I gained from a crashed spaceship, and it has been with me for many years since then,” Emperor Might said solemnly. “As an intelligent lifeform from a more advanced civilization, 1269 is far knowledgeable than us.
“Therefore, I have always treated it as my teacher and asked for its advice, especially about cultivation matters. I often have questions about them!”
Ling Jiu nodded slightly.
Indeed, 1269 had followed Emperor Might for a long time and revealed many things about the Emissian Civilization. It had even tried its best to help Emperor Might sense Dark Bio-Energy, trying to make Emperor Might a real Emissian warrior.
It was a pity that Emperor Might had failed to sense the Dark Bio-Energy and become an Emissian warrior. Nevertheless, 1269 still followed Emperor Might.
“Thanks to 1269, I became the first stellar lifeform on Earth! But, of course, I didn’t keep this knowledge to myself. I have made a lot of cultivation information public!”
Emperor Might continued, “As to how to evolve elixir field’s stellar system, 1269 has also told me in detail. So I’m aware of the existence of the perfect stellar system!
“In fact, every stellar lifeform on our planet knows of its existence!
“However, no one uses the perfect stellar system as a template to evolve the elixir field’s stellar system. Instead, they all use our solar system! Do you know why?”
Emperor Might looked at Ling Jiu.
“Due to the lack of time!” Ling Jiu slowly said. “The evolution of the elixir field’s stellar system does not only require massive Gene Arcana, but it also takes a long time to condense the Gene Arcana Core!”
Emperor Might nodded. “With the Gene Arcana on the Earth, it will take at least fifty years to form a Stellar-Class Gene Arcana Core!
“If we used a perfect stellar system as a template, even when we die of old age, we won’t be able to evolve a perfect stellar system!
“What’s more, we still need to spend more than half of our time to understand the laws of the universe! A stellar lifeform only has a lifespan of a thousand years. How long is that?
“So, despite knowing that evolving a perfect stellar system can help us to become more powerful and perfect stellar lifeforms, we have no choice!”
Vulcan shook his head. “We don’t have sufficient time to evolve a more complex stellar system, so we can only choose an ordinary one like the solar system!”
“Indeed!” Ling Jiu understood their points.
“So, Ling Jiu, your choice to evolve a perfect stellar system is absolutely bad because time is simply not enough!” said Emperor Might solemnly. “You still have time to stop it now! Otherwise, in the future, you’ll be old, as well as dying, and still not evolve a perfect stellar system. In other words, you can end up staying on the stellar level for the rest of your life. It’ll be impossible for you to attain a higher realm!”
“Well, if I didn’t find that ‘thing’, I might have stuck to the solar system. But after discovering that ‘thing’, I was given a new choice!” Ling Jiu smiled mysteriously and spoke half in jest, half in earnest.
“That ‘thing?’” Emperor Might and Vulcan were slightly taken aback.
“Have you heard of a white hole?” Ling Jiu asked them with a smile.
“White hole?” Emperor Might and Vulcan glanced at each other and stood up suddenly. The two of them stared at Ling Jiu as their breathing grew heavy.
“Ling Jiu, you mean—”
“Boss, didn’t you let me and 1269 salvage the spacecraft that crashed in various places in the solar system?”
Ling Jiu smiled and said, “Well, I found a wormhole deep in the ocean of Ganymede. After passing through that wormhole, I came to a magical planet.”
“A magical planet?” Emperor Might and Vulcan gulped.
“I stayed on that planet for more than a year, and when I returned to Earth, I found that only a few days had passed!” Ling Jiu smiled.
In Leoux and Ling Jiu’s plan, there was never any intention to keep the white holes from others as if they were private property. White holes should be the wealth of all mankind.
Being strong alone was nothing. True strength was only achievable when the entire human race was strong.
Moreover, even if all the people on Earth moved to the vicinity of the white caves to practice cultivation, Ling Jiu was confident that he would remain the fastest cultivator on Earth!
Boom!

A Mildly Odd Reality Breaker
Omar receives an unexpected visitor who comes baring a gift—a "registration ticket"—in the form of a small metal card. The ticket is itself an offer to participate in the game, "Reality Break." Accepting this offer means that Omar will be able to perceive the true nature of reality where there is not one, but two dimensions of time, and in this second dimension history changes (and somewhat "frequently"). Along with this, he will also gain access to the "chronopause"; another reality that is not so much parallel to our own as it is perpendicular, which acts as both a place and the natural boundary between non-sequential points on the timeline. Using the chronopause, Omar will become a chrononaut with the ability to travel through time, and as a player, he will be given a cybernetic interface and his own portable extradimensional storage space. It's a strange conversation, but due to Omar's dismally short attention span, he only consciously hears that last bit about the portable pocket space, and that's only after the physics-defying void is opened in his living room and literally waved in front of his face. Reality is certainly stranger than most people realize, but then again, so is Omar. Thankfully, he responds well to shiny things, and for better or for worse, his chronic inattentiveness is the least of his psychological issues. Omar also has a mild form of "Oppositional Defiant Disorder" which presents itself as an occasional, arbitrary need to disobey others (especially authority figures). However, his oddest psychological issue by far is his "abnormally hyperactive" subconscious mind. Outwardly and consciously, Omar is a lazy, apathetic man-child prone to mildly asinine behavior. Subconsciously, he's some sort of genius capable of extraordinary feats of cognition. Most of the time, Omar is a (technically) functioning adult, but in order to live as such, he must rely entirely upon unusual abilities he's completely unaware of, despite the fact that he uses them regularly. Up until now, his life had merely been ridiculous, but now it was also a game. Note: The narrative style is that of a reliable narrator with a "3rd-person sarcastic" POV. This story takes place in the Reality Breakers/Chronopause universe.

The Hunt
Cecily's blade swung, hitting its mark as always. The man's arm fell to the cold grass of the prison with a familiar thud. He let out a blood curdling scream. A warning to the rest. Stay away, the Hunter is here. That's the name they'd given her, the Hunter. After she cut off the man who tried to rape hers masculinity, they stayed away. She'd made it clear anyone who tried to touch her would be hunted and slaughtered. Cecily kneeled down, pushing the man's face into the dirt so she could use his back as a seat while she trifled through his belongings. "You're hurting my ears," she told him, no remorse in her voice. "Quiet down before I really do kill you."The man but his lip, well aware that she wasn't lying. Sobs shook him, making for an uncomfortable seat. She, however, didn't particularly feel the beed to kill him. It happened, not often, but it did. "Oh, hush up," she hissed, taking out a bag of rations with her metal hand, "it doesn't hurt that bad."With her good, human hand, she dropped the plastic bag of food into her own bag. She pushed up, off the man back. As she was about to walk away, bag slung over her shoulder, brushing against her autumn colored braid, she turned back to him. "Consider yourself lucky," she said, no hatred in her voice, there never was. "Consider yourself lucky that you didn't do anything stupid. And even luckier if one of the scum bagged criminals in here feel a little light in their hearts and help you. Consider yourself luckier if you die there."With that, her old black and white Nike sneakers carried her off into the brush of the huge prison.
