Chapter 42: You’re Not Worthy (2)
Translator: EndlessFantasy Translation Editor: EndlessFantasy Translation
With the words spoken, Li Hongyu successfully portrayed the image of a gentle, virtuous and elegant wife as well as a motherly figure with a big heart.
Unfortunately, Zhao Youlin was no longer the same rich girl who used to be bullied by her two-faced stepmother from the shadows, yet did not know how to fight back.
Zhao Youlin stared at the couple who was playing good cop, bad cop before her. Her eyes were filled with intense mockery.
‘Elders? Hehe! When the previous Zhao Youlin married into the Mu family, her husband never bothered about her. Even the maids often seized opportunities to make things difficult for the mother and son. Through it all, where were these two so-called elders? When the previous Zhao Youlin committed suicide by slitting her wrist and was on the brink of death, where were they?
‘After slitting her wrist, she was reborn and rested in the Mu family’s house for several days. It didn’t matter that her husband had never visited her once, but when have these two so-called elders ever stepped in the Mu family’s house, or even asked someone to convey their regards on their behalf? It’s only now that they came to look for me. What have they been doing?’
“I’m a relatively straightforward person. I literally mean what I say. So, listen to me if you want. If there’s nothing else, please clear the path. We need to go home.”
Zhao Youlin’s words drove Li Hongyu and Zhao Shuncheng over the edge. Both of their expressions changed within an instant. They were stunned. The next moment, Zhao Shuncheng’s expression darkened, and he said, “Is this the way you speak to your father and mother?! Do you really think that you’re already full-fledged after staying four years in the Mu family and that you’re out of my hands now, huh?!”

Zhao Youlin’s eyes fluttered upon hearing his words. She raised her head and locked gazes with the enraged Zhao Shuncheng. She stared at him like staring at the dead with her icy cold gaze.
The moment Zhao Shuncheng was being stared at like this, it sent a chill down his spine and he actually shivered.
When he came back to his senses, he realized that the person who goaded him was actually his own eldest daughter whom he had never really cared about in the past. His expression grew increasingly troubled. He shouted, “What kind of look are you giving me?!”
“What look are you talking about?” Zhao Youlin snickered, and blurted out, “I’m looking at you just like how I look at foolish people. Father? Mother? Hehe! If I remember correctly, my mother already passed away since I was five years old. I wonder how many years she has been up there in heaven. I wonder who my mother is now?”
“Youlin, y-you… How could you say that?” Li Hongyu’s face turned white when she heard Zhao Youlin’s words. Her body was trembling, and she said shakily, “Although I’m not your biological mother, I daresay I’ve never wronged you. I treat you like my own flesh and blood and even adored you more than my own daughter. I never expect you…”
Zhao Youlin frowned. She felt an indescribable disgust when she was greeted by Li Hongyu’s hypocritical look. She had always hated a wench in sheep’s clothing, and someone who liked to shed crocodile tears. These two features had precisely been part of Li Hongyu’s characters. As such, no one could really blame her for speaking without mercy.
Zhao Youlin quirked an eyebrow. She looked at Li Hongyu, and her eyes were filled with indescribable contempt and disdain. She said, “You’ve never wronged me all this while? Get over yourself! My mother died when I was only five years old. At the moment of her death, my father and mother were not divorced. However, if I remember correctly, my good younger sister is only two years younger than me. How shameless of you to actually say you’ve never wronged me when you are obviously a mistress who meddled in my parents’ marital affairs?! Aren’t you aware how people would laugh at you if this were to spread out?!”

The Queen's Guard
Friedrich Schreiner is a proud gefreiter of the Queen's Guard, 2nd Company: the finest fighting infantry on the continent (barring the Temple Guard; but please don't bring that up). Service is honourable but, with the Empire on a peacetime footing, terribly boring. Affairs take a dramatic turn for the worse when a mysterious invader uses a forgotten and taboo magical means to breach the capital, plunging the nation into chaos and endangering the royal family. With events spiraling out of control, Friedrich is entrusted with a critical mission. Will hot lead, cold steel, and his determination be enough to see him through? The Queen's Guard is what I'm calling a black powder fantasy story: it's set in a loose equivalent of the early 18th century (plus or minus a few pieces I decided I wanted or didn't want). Magic exists, but not in a spell-slinging sort of way: it's Earth-shaking undertakings or minor enchantments forged in by master craftsmen, the grand working of a secretive cabal or a slight nudge to the course of a blow. I, the eternal optimist, have a full trilogy in mind. The first book is The Prince's Arquebusier, hence the cover and the title disagreeing! This is my shot at 2021's NaNoWriMo and RR Writathon! I've hitherto been terrible at writing long-form fiction, so this is an effort to break out of that by having some accountability in being supposed to post chapters regularly. Here's hoping it works! I have an outline, but not too much detail. I'll do my best to avoid continuity errors, doing anything glaringly stupid, or otherwise fluffing my lines, but I can't make any promises on that. Please do let me know any feedback! Always happy to improve. [participant in the Nov 2021 Royal Road Writathon challenge]

Tale of an Anomaly
It was supposed to be a normal weekend, staying a little bit longer in bed, not worrying about work, spending quality family time, or partying late night for some people and hoping to get a little lucky. Then why the hell were half the buildings disappearing right in front of them? What was the big message in the sky supposed to mean? And why the fuck was there a dragon in the middle of the city?! Follow Bharat, an ordinary freelancer out for a job, who, after getting caught up in an unfortunate series of events finds himself all alone in a forest full of dangerous creatures out for his blood, along with a strange screen in front of him that felt awfully similar to the games he used to play and the books he used to read as a kid. Maybe his countless hours of gaming weren’t useless after all! Release Schedule: 4 days a week About the author: Just an amateur writer from India who started writing as hobby during quarantine. English is not my native language, so any kind of feedback is most welcome. Don’t take the tags and warnings too seriously though. It’s just to prevent flames later, just in case.
