What is going on?! Yan Xiaoran screamed inside her mind as she averted her eyes from that gentle and kind look that he was giving her.

This was the first time they met, right?

So, why was he acting like they knew each other?

'No, wait. Is this what they call love at first sight? Did he fall for me after seeing my face?'

Yan Xiaoran slapped herself awake from her delusions. What love at first sight? That kind of love only happens inside the TV screen and not in real life!

There was no way he would suddenly fall for her just after seeing her face.

Yan Xiaoran was confident with her beauty but compared to his good looks and refined manners, she would rather not be too full of herself and dig a grave for her to hide.

Besides, who knows what kind of evil intention does Alexander had prepared for her after ditching him without even notifying him. That gentle look on his face must be a facade he mastered to make her trust him and think he was kind to her, but in truth, he was already planning to send her back to prison.

Yan Xiaoran shuddered and gulped.

With her past experience with people who smiled and cared for her, only to find out in the end that they were only pretending to make her suffer, Yan Xiaoran raised up all her guards against Alexander.

Unfortunately, Alexander couldn't read her mind and thus, continued to smile at her. If he knew what she was thinking, he would be stunned and tell her that it wasn't the case.

"Xiao Gui turn the AC off and turn the heater on."

Yan Xiaoran turned her head to look at him but then a large shadow covered her sight and before she knew it, her shivering shoulders were covered by his suit jacket.

"Thank you." Yan Xiaoran softly uttered as she let her body relax and wait for the heater to warm her cold body.

Alexander shook his head, "You don't need to say thank you. We will be married in one of these days and this kind of activity will be normal between us."

Once again, Yan Xiaoran couldn't reply to him as she continued to look at him with uncertainty and guilt which Alexander found confusing.

"Is something wrong with what I said?" Alexander asked her.

However, instead of an answer, Yan Xiaoran asked him an unexpected question, "Your grandfather… He still hadn't told you?"

"Tell meat?"

Swallowing hard, Yan Xiaoran said, "I rejected the proposal."

Suddenly, the car that should have been warm was passed by a cold storm as Alexander's smile was wiped off his face and he stared at her with cold eyes.

Yan Xiaoran didn't break her eye contact with him and felt the atmosphere turning colder as time passes by.

Xiao Gui who was silently sitting on the driver's seat also felt the hair on his arms standing up, knowing that Yan Xiaoran was courting death.

It took a whole minute before Alexander finally recovered, but his tone was not as gentle and kind as before, "You rejected me?"

"Yes…" Yan Xiaoran said before she incredulously asked after realizing what he had just said, "What?! I didn't dump you. I rejected your grandfather's proposal and everything."

Yan Xiaoran did reject Robert Qu's proposal for her to inherit almost half of his wealth and the condition that she must marry his grandson.

However, that didn't mean that she really dumped him since the two of them didn't even know each other and don't have feelings for each other. So, Alexander's words didn't make sense to her.

There was no need for her to dump him since their engagement or marriage wasn't written on any piece of paper that could prove that she dumped him.

But who would have thought that Alexander wasn't the one to understand her meaning and persistently said, "Which technically means, you refused to get married to me to which also means, you don't want me."

Yan Xiaoran: "..."

Feeling a headache starting dorm in her head, Yan Xiaoran took a few moments to comprehend what was going on but didn't find an answer as to why was Alexander doing this to her.

'Is this man serious with me right now?' She thought as she released an exasperated breath.

Alexander looked at her anticipatingly. He waited for her to answer and could hear his heart shattering again. This was the second time, she made his heart feel so sad in less than an hour.

Alexander could still remember when they were young. He waited upon her on the nearest river bank where they would take care of an abandoned puppy.

They fostered the puppy and became its foster parents. Since the river bank was not a safe place, Alexander took him to his house and let the young girl visit him and the puppy frequently.

However, her frequent visits turned to rare until a month later, Alexander and puppy no longer see her coming to play with them. On the next day, Alexander tried to reach her and visited her home, but who knew that the house where the little girl was living was demolished and the tenants transferred to another place.

Since then, Alexander never met the little girl again until one day, he saw her on the TV screen, wearing a gray uniform and handcuffed with people and the press surrounding her like she was a notorious criminal.

Looking at her, Alexander felt angry at himself for not being there for her when she was taken to the prison and was judged guilty over a crime that was never her doings.
