Loving A STRANGER Chapter 325

The doctor shook his head and said, "I'm not sure, and tonight is the most critical period, but the patient seems determined to be alive. I do hope he'll be fine." In an intensive care unit.
Seeing the man was filled with various instruments, Fannie asked Nate in a quiet voice.
"Lord Ethan cares about Kylie most. Shall we call her to encourage him?"
Nate snorted with anger. "I think Ethan will be furious when he hears her voice!"
"I don't think so." Fannie shook her head. "You don't understand Lord Ethan. He'll forgive Kylie whatever she's done."
"I don't think there is any man who can accept the fact that his girl has cheated on him!" Nate was so reluctant to make the call, but he did believe Fannie was right.
However, the problem wasn't whether he would call Kylie, but whether Kylie would come.
He bit his lips a little, then made an excuse. "I'll go out to have a cigarette."
Walking out from the intensive care unit, Nate called Stephen at once.
He just had promised that he wouldn't take Stephen as his brother anymore, but he had to call Stephen and be nice now. Thinking of that, Nate wanted to slap himself.
"Hey, Stephen, are you still eating the hot pot?" Nate smiled once his call was answered.
"Nope, we're home now," Stephen said gently as usual. "What's up?"
"Um... Well..." Nate honestly had no idea how to put it. Stephen, on the other side of the phone, didn't urge him either, but just waited with patience.
In the end, Nate had to tell him the truth. "Ethan is in the hospital now. He's badly injured. If you're free, I think you should come and visit him. We've been brothers after all."
"Which hospital?" Stephen asked.
It was one thing that he had stolen Kylie from his close brother, but it was totally another thing that they were still brothers.
Nate then told him the address before hanging up.

He didn't tell Stephen to bring Kylie to visit Ethan, but he did hope Kylie would come on her own after hearing the bad news, although he wasn't very hopeful.
In fact, when Nate called Stephen, Stephen already had a shower and was about to go to bed. Seeing him changing clothes again, Kylie asked with curiosity, "Where are you going? It's very late."
"Ethan is in the hospital now, and I'm going to visit him," Stephen explained lightly.
"OK," Kylie said, then turned back, continuing to watch the entertainment show hosted by William while she was eating snacks.
Stephen stopped at her back, thinking for a while before he opened his mouth, "Ethan was hit by the car because of you. Do you want to visit him with me?"
Kylie's sight stuck to the TV screen and was amused by the show. She laughed and said airily, "If he hadn't chased me, I wouldn't have been hit by the car. It was his own fault that he was hit by the car at the end. I don't want to visit him. The show is so funny."
Stephen didn't insist but patted her shoulder. "Don't watch TV for too long. I think I'll be in the hospital for a long while, and won't be back until I'm sure Ethan is safe."
When Kylie heard the door closed behind, she turned back and seemed worried.
She deliberately turned the voice of the TV up, then picked her coat, avoiding the housekeeper's sight, following Stephen.
There was only a VIP elevator at the top six stories of the Empire Hotel. Kylie hid at the door and didn't run to the stairs until Stephen walked into the elevator.
She dashed down six floors, then got in another elevator.
When Kylie ran out of the elevator, she saw Stephen already got in the Lamborghini.
Kylie turned to get in a taxi at once. "Hey, please follow the car at the front!"
"Miss, it's a sports car!"
"I'll give you a double fee!"

"Buckle your safety belt!"
Even six extra tires were added to Santana, and it was impossible for it to catch up with Lamborghini. Nevertheless, from Stephen's route and direction, Kylie was still able to find the Central Hospital, which was his destination.
When she got off the taxi, Stephen was nowhere to be found. She then put on her hat and mask before walking to the reception.
"Hi, may I ask which patient room the injured man from a car accident stays in? He was admitted this afternoon," Kylie asked. However, the nurse told her there was no injured man who had been admitted to the hospital from a car accident today.
Kylie was confused. The Central Hospital was so big, and it was totally impractical for her to search for the man from one patient room to another.
At the outside of the intensive care unit.
When Nate saw Stephen came here alone, he was disappointed.
"Hi," Nate said coldly, but Stephen didn't care. "How's Ethan now?" "The rupture of the spleen caused massive bleeding under severe impact. He may not survive tonight." Nate lowered his head, sitting on the bench.
Stephen walked to the window and had a glance at the inside. There was a lot of medical equipment, and the man was still in the process of blood transfusion.
From Stephen's professional acknowledgement, he knew the man must be in a very dangerous situation with so many medical devices.
Ethan had been hit by the car because of rescuing Kylie. If he died like that and couldn't see Kylie for the last time, would Kylie be regretful for the rest of her life when she regained her memory in the future?
Stephen hesitated for a while, then walked aside to call Kylie.
Although it seemed that she didn't care and wasn't willing to come, she probably would come here if Stephen made the request in person.
Unexpectedly, Kylie's phone was turned off.
Stephen could only call the housekeeper then. "Let Kylie answer the call." The housekeeper searched the room for around then replied, "I'm sorry, Lord Stephen. Kylie isn't home."
Nate, who sat aside, eavesdropped Stephen talking on the phone, but he didn't hear it clearly. Seeing Stephen hung up the call and seemed displeased, Nate thought Kylie was still unwilling to come.
"It's all because of her that Ethan is lying in the intensive care unit now! She's so cold-blooded!" Nate was a little mad.
"She's not cold-blooded." Stephen sat beside Nate and firmly defended Kylie.
"Ha, you're right. She cherishes affection and loyalty, and will never betray a man who loves her so much!" Nate said it on purpose to embarrass Stephen.
At this time, Fannie was back with two cups of coffee in her hands.
She gave Stephen a smile and said, "Sorry, I didn't know you'll come, so I didn't buy a cup for you." "It's fine. I don't drink coffee." Stephen was very polite to her.
Nate took a cup of coffee, walking aside, drinking it. He looked to the outside of the window, feeling upset that he failed to let Ethan meet Kylie.
Fannie sat beside Stephen with a gentle smile on her face. "I heard that Kylie is your girlfriend now? How is she doing?" "Not bad," Stephen smiled.
"Kylie is a little stubborn, and you better be more tolerant," Fannie said, but there was obvious disdain in her eyes.
It seemed nobody supported them being together.
Stephen sat for a few minutes and started to feel embarrassed when nobody was talking.
He stood up later, saying to Fannie, "Well, you and Nate can stay here for tonight, and I'll do the day shift tomorrow. If anything wrong happened to Ethan, do tell Nate to call me."
"I will. See you." Fannie walked him to the elevator. When she turned around to see Nate, he was already asleep on the chair.
She smirked, then quietly walked to a fire exit and said in a low voice, "You can come out now."

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.
