New Life : A Second Chance Chapter 656

Stephan's visit to the police station was uneventful, really. He wasn't arrested but asked to come to make a statement and help in the police investigation. As they did not find drugs on the other guy, Stephan could not be arrested on suspicion of drug dealing.
Thus, the only thing the police could do was request for Stephan to help in the investigation.
Stephan was prepared for this, thus did not resist and cooperated fully. He politely told them he was going to call his lawyer and would meet with them at the police station.
Everything went by smoothly and the police had no choice but to let Stephan go.
The drug dealing exchange turned out to be the sale of some rare vintage books, and though the police felt something was wrong, they had no cause to hold Stephan any longer.
After four hours of the interrogation, Stephan was let go.
As he stepped out of the police station, he shook hands with the lawyer that Kyle had provided for him and took a deep breath of fresh air. He looked up at the blue sky, thinking that he had just escaped from something quite major.
As for the police?
They had their hands full.
Multiple murders at the mall they had been in, and one unexplained death. When the autopsy report came in, it turned out that the guy had had a heart attack. As for the other deaths?
They couldn't get any leads at all.
The identities of the three people were hidden, as there was no record about them at all. Even their fingerprints had been burned off. Professional assassins had been killed off effortlessly and without leaving any evidence behind.
In truth, the police were glad that they didn't have more evidence to dig up. They felt like their lives were in danger if they did manage to find something. This seemed to be on a whole different level.

Donnie was sitting in his car, glad to be getting away from this small place and back to where he should be. It felt like the journey was taking so long.
He was impatient.
It was already late evening, as the only flight left to leave was at night. Although he had plenty of time before the flight, he prefered to wait at the airport rather than wasting time anywhere else.
The sky was getting darker and it started to rain.
Donnie hoped the rain didn't mean that the flight would be delayed.
As he was thinking that, the airconditioning in the car became warm. In fact, it wasn't working. The radio became weird as it couldn't get a signal and then, the windscreen wipers stopped moving.
Donnie frowned.
"What's going on?" he demanded.
He noticed the driver was shaking, the hands gripping on the steering so hard that his knuckles were white.
"B-Bo-Boss," the driver said shakingly, as he looked about on the road they were on nervously, "Th-the car … nothing seems to be working."
It was getting dangerous to continue to drive, as the rain fell and the wipers weren't moving. The driver couldn't see in front of him very well and worse … though he didn't say it to his boss, the car was actually slowing down.
It wasn't him that was doing so.
The driver was a local of Country M, and was well aware of all the 'hot spots' in the country. The hot spots here being, of course, areas where strange phenomenons occur, and not physical locations where you can get good internet connections.
This stretch of road was one of them.
On this road, you must not allow a black car would overtake you. Otherwise, you'll never get out. Another more terrifying 'story' was that you must never stop here - for if you do, you will get visitors. If there was no choice, you must stay in the car and never go out, even if you hear knocking on the door.

The story was that a car had broken down in this area. The guy had gone out to look for help and told the girl to stay in the car and not go out as it was not safe. She listened to him well.
However, after a while, there was this knocking sound that seemed to come from the roof of the car. She felt it was most likely a monkey since this stretch of road used to be a jungle. In fact, this particular part of the road still had some parts of the jungle as the road cut through it.
Eventually, a policeman came and knocked on her window. He told her gently to get out of the car and follow him. Relieved, she did as she was told and when she was about to turn her head, the police told her not to.
He urged her to follow him quickly and not to look back.
Of course, she did.
To see a figure in white, with long hair covering the face, sitting on the roof of her car and knocking something on the roof.
That 'something' was her boyfriend's severed head.
The driver was ready to cry right now, for the car was steadily slowing down. Was this what the couple had experienced?
"Sorry Boss, something wrong with the car," the driver said nervously as the car slowly came to a stop.
He tried to start the engine but nothing.
It was getting hot in the car, and Donnie took off his jacket and unbuttoned some buttons on his shirt. Beads of sweat started to show on his forehead and he looked at his phone.
Great. Just great.
No reception.
What lousy luck is this?!
Donnie looked out and noticed that there were hardly any cars on the road, and that the nearest rest area was 2km away.
"Go out and stop a car," Donnie ordered gruffly.
The driver almost peed in his pants.

Flame Beneath The Snowfall
Alto is a world governed by Tones. Magic, as one might call it. Manifested through deep mental and physical conditioning, one can control the Tones in a way that is unique to them. The power to store items in gems, transfer life, affect a person's mind, and even the more primal abilities such as control of the elements. Those who have these supernatural abilities are called 'Vassals.' People that fully manifest their abilities are not as common as one might think, and not all Vassals acquire their ability through practice, given if conditions are met. In fact, those who had received much trauma manifest the Tones more frequently, albeit spontaneously. However, the rare kind of Vassals are those who manifest it from childhood. A gift, but not without its repercussions. Alto is stuck in a transitional era, where the line between modern and dated technology is blurred. One can travel to a city that has a tall skyline, bustling with people in sophisticated clothing, or a mere town governed by a lord, all the while riding on a powered vehicle. Cultures vary: Some turn to the more dated practices such as castes, others are more inclined to set equal footing on their people, led by nobility. Some are dedicated to become scholars, studying Alto's Tones, while others set foot on hunts, protecting lone towns from the creatures of some of the still-untamed lands. And the Vassals? Those willing are took under The Organization, an elusive group, its presence said to permeate all throughout Alto, taking care of Rogue Vassals that abuse their abilities and other businesses related to their side. But what is this story all about, you may ask? Well, set your sights on the upper portions of this huge landmass that is Alto. Yes, the 'whole' world is called Alto, but that is because the majority of the known people live on this large continent. Relieve yourself of the worrying tensions everywhere, and see the white snow. Trace the piercing mountaintops and focus your eyes between the valley. A town sits there. Mido. After realizing that the memories only left in his mind was the night of his town's imminent destruction in flames, a boy finds himself grasping for every fiber of his life as he lays down flat on the ground. Beneath him was soot mixed with the white snow. Fortunately, a group of investigators, who were supposed to answer their call for help, saved him from his sorry state. With a newfound second wind, but hampered by his loss of memory, he must solve his own case: Who had the audacity to set Mido, his town, aflame? Flame Beneath the Snowfall focuses on action, with a sense of adventure, but mostly the discovery of an outside world, and the protagonist's exposure to it. Add in a whisk of soft magical elements, and you get a story that I hope will be interesting to the readers. That is not to say that my work is without the sense of unnerving atmosphere, however. As a forewarning, there are elements of gore, horror, minor elements of mental trauma, etc. so it is not for all audiences. *The book is already completed. Although I have plans to continue the story (it would have to involve much larger scope in terms of world-building), I have yet to decide when to start the next entry.

Hope
There were 2 options: Fight the same war for countless more aeons. Shatter the Betrayer's undead legions time and time again until all was ground to dust. Because the endless legions truly never end. A hair's breath of ground in a century is enough if the war takes all of eternity. Or to choose Hope. To cast away his memories, his power, his very life. To wager everything on a chance to prevent their eventual end or to perish trying. Because if he were to return it would be with the power necessary to finally slay what remains of the Betrayer. Of the last Aspect. Only then would all things be right. And so, he chose the latter. Expect:Weak to strong quick-ish.Powerful MC reincarnates, gradually starts regaining memories.MC that is an actual character not a plot device. My original unique magic system discovered along with the MC.My original setting with mythos that have both been living rent free in my head for actual years.Opening arc will be less fast than the following story. Good writing (I think) and grammar. Upload schedulle: 2 chapters a week of 3-4k words each. I want to upscale to 3 in the future. Meant to be read in RR dark mode. For those coming here from my other stories, this is indeed a reimagining of my older story, CotM. I say reimagining because I have changed so much it cannot be called just a rewrite. Among the major changes, MC is fundamentally different in personality and background, I have actually planned the story out and changed it almost completely and I have adjusted my mythos so it no longer has as many holes as swiss cheese.

Dreams or Another World - Not a Zero
No, my name’s not Doug. I lied. Waking up in this hospital bed and right away I’m being questioned. They say I’m a hero, saved some girl. I don’t remember any of that. Like the stories you read, a stranger in a strange world where magic and fantasy races exist, but technology hasn’t advanced. It was all just a slice of life as I learned and grew in this world. Was… Author’s notes. Original work. First draft. Inspired by various fantasy games and books. Written with a focus on character development and interaction. Combat, progression, leveling, classes, but no numbers or stats. I’ll try to keep the language clean, PG-13, no smut. I’m in the US, writing in English. I intend to complete this story or at least bring it to a proper ending. I have a destination in mind. I find as I write, doors and ideas open, while others close and are discarded. I'm new to creating. My apologies now while I learn. I have not settled on a book cover or artwork, still looking for something that fits. Registered & Protected #20VjeKDv2U6nynW6
