New Life : A Second Chance Chapter 523

Lance cleared his throat, and said to Kay, "Since your father is here, I'll be making my move then. Remember what I said, okay?"
Kay nodded.
"It was nice meeting you, Mr. Smith," Lance said politely and Kay walked him to the door.
"Thank you," Kay said softly as he was about to leave.
Lance smiled, and ruffled her hair.
"Hey!!"
"Remember to come to school tomorrow. Mark is too lifeless without you," Lance said.
Kay sniffed, rubbing her nose, "Oh, he'll survive. But okay, See you guys for lunch?"
Lance waved and left.
When Kay went back to the living room, she found her Dad looking a bit melancholy but he immediately hid it upon realising she was there.
Kay's heart lurched in pain at that, knowing how much her father was missing Kyle. She wished she could tell him where he was, but that would be betraying Kyle's trust in her.
She couldn't do that to him.
Yet, she was also feeling the guilt and pain at seeing her father's obvious sadness.
Being caught in the middle wasn't a nice feeling.

Xing Han was tired of the whole thing.
Seriously, he was damn tired.
He tried.
Ever since he was born, he lived his life to meet the expectations of his parents without question. He was the filial son and did everything as they dictated.
Even the marriage bit.
There had not been a single ounce in his body that even entertained the idea of rebelling. He may not like the situation, but he would bite the bullet and follow on.
But right now, he was feeling that all of it was a pain-in-the-ass.
How much of his life was he supposed to sacrifice just for the family?

Before this, it had never bothered him.
His fiancee was a nice girl. Not demanding, lovely and had absolutely no objections to him having multiple mistresses. So long as he treated her right, she was fine.
But now, how could he do so?
He wondered how his parents did so, and how his ancestors did so.
It was something he grew up with and it was a natural thing for him but now, it felt all wrong. Well, to be honest, he felt it was screwed up before but since he never intended to get a mistress, it was a moot point with him.
However, seeing how it affected Nitocris was like a knife was cutting his heart.
How did those mistresses feel?
Then again, perhaps those mistresses were not truly in love with his father, but his money?
After all, what woman would be willing to be with a man and not have children with him? Never having an official title? Sure, life would be great and there was nothing lacking … except, love.
Were they truly happy?
Was pursuing happiness really him being selfish?
Xing Han rolled about in his bed, clutching the bolster to his chest. His chest was feeling so tight, his eyes were stinging with unshed tears.
He could see the effort Nitocris was putting into keeping his distance.
His heart clenched whenever he remembered the expression on Nitocris's face when he had told him about his impending marriage.
Shock, sadness, and most of all, despair before he turned away.
If Nitocris had become angry, Xing Han would have been able to accept it more.
The more Nitocris worked hard in order not make him feel uncomfortable, the more Xing Han felt restless. Useless.
He decided, to respect Nitocris efforts, that he should keep away from him just as he was keeping his distance.

Xing Han had never gone against his family, and it was ingrained within him to do what needed to be done, as the sole son.
However, for the first time in his life, he didn't want to do that.
He had been tossing and turning over this for weeks now, and finally, he decided. He needed to confront Nitocris once and for all.
Xing Han waited until Nitocirs came home.
At 1am, he heard the door open and the steady steps of Nitocris could be heard. Xing Han waited at his door, his head leaning on it as his heart beat in his chest so hard and rapidly.
He could do this.
He must do this.
He would regret it forever if he didn't.
In order to move on, he needed to get this matter settled.
Taking a deep breath, Xing Han resolutely walked to Nitocris's bedroom and knocked on the door.
"Come in," came his deep, sexy baritone voice from the other side of the door.
Xing Han gulped.
His hands shaking as he touched the doorknob,
Taking another deep breath, he opened it.
Nitocris was in the midst of taking off his shirt and his hands froze upon seeing who it was at the door. He had thought it was his mother, wanting to check up on him.
She had been scolding him for his long hours at work, so he felt she would be coming to scold him for coming home late again.
Without missing a beat, he turned and said coldly, "What is it?"
Xing Han gulped, and gathered the courage to say, "Can I talk to you?"
"You're already talking, aren't you?" Nitocris replied, and flung his shirt into the laundry basket.
Xing Han bit his lips and he thought, perhaps, talking to Nitocris's back was better.
"I'm sorry," Xing Han began.
"For what?" Nitocris growled, wondering what was going on with his little puppy … no, not his. He belonged to someone else.
"For doing this," Xing Han said as he went to hug Nitocirs from behind.
Nitocris didn't move, shocked beyond belief.
"I tried, Nitocris, I really did," Xing Han was saying, his voice soft, "But I can't do this anymore. I miss you so much that it hurts."
"What are you saying?" Nitocris asked nervously.
"I love you," Xing Han said, while crying.

Chimera
Eleanor meant the world to Titus. So when an opportunity to bring her murderer to justice appears, Titus jumps on the chance. His quest, however, would mean traversing the dangerous world of Nivandor, a land infested with monsters, night hunters, and corrupt kings–nothing he and his lord, Lady Priscilla, couldn't handle. Their plans change, however, when both of them are dragged into a nightmare realm, a dimension filled with strange and powerful terrors unlike any they've ever faced. Titus's skill as a kinetic mage is put to the ultimate test as he must work with his lord to fight off the increasingly dangerous monsters that hunt them as they hunt down the three remaining Seraph lords sustaining the Nightmare. For only when the final Seraph lord is slain will the Nightmare truly end. --- Happy Holidays! I tried to get a chapter out this month, but there was just too much stuff to do and I got sick. There will also be more stuff to do come the month of December to the point that I don't think I will have a chance to finish the current story arc on a strong note. So, as of today, I will be going on hiatus until the holidays are over. I will hopefully return with the last few chapters of book 2 as well as the DLC chapters to help clarify Titus and Priscilla's powers as well as a look into their lives before the story gets crazy (maybe 6-7 chapters). These chapters are planned to take place in the day between Chapter 1.4 & Chapter 1.5, detailing the day they had before going to Nivandor. How the DLC chapters will be titled is to be decided. The DLC chapters will be posted here free as usual. Really excited to get a break so I can catch up on chapters. Even more excited to be able to start book 3 once the current story arc is finished. Warmly, Daniel --- Disclamer: This story is not a finished product and will be undergoing changes, sometimes significant changes, as the story develops. Think of it as an early access story where nothing is fully set in stone. If I change a part of the story that you really love, I'm sorry, but changing one part of the story will affect the other parts I try to avoid major changes, especially in older chapters, but for the newer ones there will probably be more fine tuning. As for anyone invested in the story who is not happy with the way the story is going, feel free to DM me so I can get feedback. I want to know how you guys feel about the story, what changes I can make, at what point in the story I may have lost you. But until I get specific feedback, I won't know what changes might need to be made. There are about 14 chapters left for Part 2 of Chimera, give or take. I don't have a time frame for when they will be up but know I am chipping away at the chapters as I can. Rifts of War
The visions. It was they that told us about our future. They said that we were the true rulers of the world, the spreaders of light, the guardians of the rightious path. The visions gave us signs of a bright new world, one united under a single banner of light. All those who opposed us suffered and here we stand on the top, watching over the world. We thought it would last forever, but we thought wrong. The visions once again spoke to us and gave us insight, but not to glory or power. They spoke of a terrible fate. An enemy from beyond the realm, one that wishes to destroy us all, one that threatens to bring about the end of the light and usher an age of darkness. As its guardians, we could not allow that. And so we decided to strike. Our armies and our mages gather at the great rift that connects our world. No one knew what we would find. Treasures? Rich land? Savage beasts? There was only one way to find out. A/N: The story starts out pretty quick and I know people will say this is a "military p*rn" but that's only the beginning. I really do have much more planned for this book so I can make a true 'war of the worlds' type of deal. So stick around and enjoy
