Darius Supreme Chapter 19

Darius' actions infuriated the malevolent animals as they yipped and barked back at him even more angrily, yet none dared to approach. They were extremely fearful of his might, but they didn't leave because they still outnumbered him greatly.
Darius knew that too, which was why his thoughts were running super fast on how to resolve this situation. He knew some basics about hyenas thanks to the NatGeo channel which he had watched in his offtime, but that didn't make him an animal expert.
Darius had an idea and walked to the carcass of one of the nearby hyenas. He then bent over it and plunged his iron dagger straight into the corpse and began skinning its hide deftly.
This, of course, almost made the surrounding hyenas go mad as they advanced. Laughing at and taunting them was one thing, even killing one of them in self-defense was just the way of the wild, but carving up their dead brethren's corpse right in front of them?
Darius' eyes flashed when one of them came too close in anger, and he quickly fired a Sparks spell at it. The poor wild dog had been too enraged to pay attention to its situation properly, so it received the electrical shower without fail.
When the beasts watched another of their kin fall dead, they abruptly paused and fled back again as the fear set in again, this time much stronger than before. Alas, the anger also remained as Darius continued to carve the corpse leisurely, as if it meant nothing to him.
Darius had succeeded in killing a quarter of the beasts using timing and some tricks, but to clear the rest in a manner that didn't make those survivors go crazy and risk it all would be hard.
For the time being, he simply removed the hide of the hyena and began working on its meat. Despite all this, the remaining survivors seemed content to bark and yip from their distance without any intention to get close.

They had once again entered a troublesome stalemate. Darius did not dare to show any weakness by retreating or acting soft, as they would maul him, while they did not dare to be the first one to rush in, as he could kill one of them in one shot.
No one wanted to be the first guy, and hyenas were not so noble that one would sacrifice their life for the pack. Darius needed something more solid and fearsome to scare them off, and his Ember spell seemed to be the answer he had been looking for.
Hyenas would respond strongly to fire over lightning, so he just needed to find the right opportunity…
In the meantime, he quickly carved up the corpse beneath him and kept the hide as well as the meat in his Inventory, with the stuff from the Grey Bear and the tusks from the Wild Boar.
Darius had a few plans that could work if he used Conversion Points, but he refused to be so wasteful. The day had just begun and he had already spent 8 of his 10 Conversion points, so he felt he had to be more miserly with them.
Mana though, was not an issue. He could recover that quickly and easily. How he wished this confrontation would be one where he had cover to hide behind, or if he could just get someone to act as a defender for him.
More than ever, Darius wanted to reach civilization and acquire some useful people to brand, so that traversal like this would become easier. A Magus was not meant to be a frontline fighter unless they were a Spellblade, yet Darius' other class was an Itemancer, someone who arguably should never be on the battlefield.
Darius was finished with the first corpse, so he walked over to the second one. Instead of carving it up though, he stretched his hand over it and cast Ember.

A shower of flames not lesser in quantity than the sparkle of lighting from the Sparks spell rained down on the corpse, quickly setting it alight. This made the watching hyenas howl in anger and fear.
Some of the pack were considering retreat. A human who could summon death and fire was not to be toyed with. A predator never fought another predator who had equal or more power, unless it was over territory or a conflict of interests. Treating another predator as prey was a sure-fire way to earn death, or at best, a pyrrhic victory.
'First, that strange blue light that killed our brethren, now the dreaded fire? Just what is this human? This was supposed to be easy prey on these grasslands, yet we've lost 3 of our brothers with nothing but empty air to eat!' While the hyenas were obviously not clever enough to make these kinds of sapient analysis, they did have instinct.
The alpha of the pack barked at the others to maintain order, but it was futile. Hyenas were not wolves, they were not noble and loyal animals, but traitorous bullies that liked to torment and torture others.
When they were on the receiving end? Not so fun for them.
Once the first one broke off and began running, it was a prelude to a full escape. Darius didn't let this chance go, as he fired one more Sparks off at a running hyena as it went, killing it.
This made the survivors bolt even faster so they would not share this fate. In the end, even the alpha slinked away with a filthy look towards Darius, but he had no interest in fighting it.
Once they were gone, he sighed and checked the messages from the system.

Interestingly, the loot they dropped was better than the Level 2 Reticulated Python, but still inferior to the level 3 Grey Bear.
Curious about the items specifically, he Inspected them.

The Eldritch Horror Returns to Earth, but Things are a Bit Different
One day, Adam B. Windsley was in this world, and then, he wasn't. Suddenly trasported into a strange world called Lutum, Adam finds himself in the body of a small, unassuming slug, and during the course of 600 years, he evolved beyond the scope of humans, becoming one of the Five Evil Gods, worshipped by his followers and treated as a God would. But he isn't happy. And after some time reaquainting himself with humans, he finds himself enjoying their company. But, in a sudden twist of events, he finds himself back in his own world. But he is still a giant tentacle-covered monstoristy. And where did these magical girls come from?... --------- In short, this is a story focusing on a somewhat edgy reincarnated-as-a-monster kind of guy who returned back to his world on the day of his transferral, only for strange, unusual things to happen. Monsters from his past world start popping up out of the blue, and ordinary people are suddenly learning of sorcery, becoming magical girls in the process. In terms of structure, it will mostly be about what happens to Adam after coming back, but at times, there will also be chapters focusing on Adam's life before his transferred, in chronological order. In other words, very typical isekai stuff. The chapters will be between 2000 and god-only-knows-how-many words and will be released every three days at 8 am, CST. I don't actually live in America so if chapter release is off by an hour or so, it's probably either because I messed up with the time, or because I was unable to finish a chapter on time-, The artwork on the cover belongs to yours truly, I drew it myself and I'm darn tootin' proud of it, and Omni is my dear co-writer who got me this far. Couldn't do it without him! With that said, I do hope you enjoy, as I did put way too much effort into it... Enjoy!

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
