The Side Character Turned Villainess Chapter 241

Ugh. I guess now isn't the time to cry over my hair. I need to remember my main objective. I spoke to the Chief, "I want to overthrow the Sanki King and I need your support with securing enough weapons and convincing the citizens to rebel against the King."
*SLAM*
I flinched from the Chief's sudden punch to the wall. He glared, "That d*mned King. He's a tyrant. He kills whoever he wants whenever he wants. Did you know that he killed ALL of the night watch guards just because a royal concubine managed to sneak past them somehow?"
I nearly choked. That was definitely my mistake. However, did he just say that I was a royal concubine? That hurts my feelings a bit. I'm not a concubine…
I looked away guiltily, "Oh really?"
He gave a dark nod, "He must suffer for his transgressions against the people. If it wasn't for us bandits stealing and giving food to the poor, I fear the death toll would be even higher."
I nodded, "Yes. This is why we must overthrow him."
The Chief looked at me carefully, "But who would take his place? We could be trading a tyrant King for an even worse one."
"You don't need to worry about that. Simon is a good candidate."
The Chief shook his head, "You said Simon? He's the son of that no-good King. How can we trust him as the new King? Won't he be as cruel as his father?"
Oh... I'm sure he is plenty cruel... Although, in the memory that the Original Seri showed me, he did seem to care about his own people. Maybe not the Imperial city people, but he did care for the Sanki people. Of course that wasn't because he was compassionate, but rather because he was power hungry. He knew that to keep his power he had to make sure no one was unhappy with him.

So is Simon a tyrant? Yes.
But is he at least a reasonable tyrant? Also, yes.
I spoke confidently, "Although he doesn't have the best personality, he won't be cruel like his father. He will at least treat the citizens much better; I can assure you of that."
"Hmm..." The Chief sat back in his chair stroking his beard, "Well... If you vouch for him, then he can't be so bad. What do you need from us bandits?"
"I need your help convincing the lower class to join my side. In addition, I need help acquiring weapons to use for the rebellion. Do you think you can help with this?"
"Since we are now family, I will help you with this. I can speak to the citizens about supporting Simon and the rebellion. However, you need to gain more support before you attempt to overthrow the King. He may not be well liked, but he still has the army and the Holy Empress behind him."
I sighed, "So what should I do?"
"If I were you, I would find Gilyn."
"Gilyn?"
"He is the leader of the Royal Army. If he were to say anything, all of his underlings would follow him without question. But be careful, no one knows what side he is on. He is famous for being tight-lipped and hard to understand. If you approach him so casually about overthrowing the King, it's possible he will kill you on the spot."
"So be tactful- got it. But where can I find this Gilyn?"
"He usually drinks at a local pub called The Lion's Den every Friday night. He won't be hard to find. He has a lot of scars, but you will know it's him by the deep scar on his left eye. The wound left his eye partially blind so there will be no question it is him."
I nodded, "Alright. Thank you for your help. In a few weeks I will meet up with you again to discuss the specifics of the battle. Just be prepared to charge on my signal."

The Chief stood up and saluted me, "We bandits will follow your lead."
I saluted back, "Then I must leave now. I will see you on the battlefield."
The daughter smiled at me and waved, "Goodbye husband! I know the revolution will be successful and you will be returning to me a victorious man."
Does she really not understand that I am a female?
I forced a smile, "Yup. Then... I will see you after?"
Please forget all about me as soon as I leave.
She smiled, "Don't worry! I will have many children for you!"
Get me out of here.
Looks like I will also have to fake my death in addition to saving Dante and leaving this crappy place behind.
I returned back to my room in the castle and collapsed on the bed in exhaustion. I raised my wrist and stared at the braided hair bracelet on me. I instantly tried to pull it off. The bracelet barely budged as I struggled to remove it.
Ugh! Why won't this nasty thing come off!? Why is it so strong?!
I grabbed a sharp knife and struggled to cut it off, but I could not. I gave up with a groan. Now I understand why divorce involves them having to cut off their hand. Oh well. Guess it is part of my arm now.
Simon returned later to check on me and found me laying down on the bed with a defeated expression. He looked down at me and started poking me, "You are still alive?"
"Barely..." I muttered back into the pillow.
He raised an eyebrow, "...You look different."
"Bandits cut my hair and forced me to marry the Chief's daughter."
"Oh. I see." Simon chuckled, "I'm glad you're having fun."
I lifted my head to glare at him, "I'm not having fun at all."
He sat down on the bed with a haughty smirk, "I am just relieved my wife is going out to see her new kingdom. I was worried that you would become a shut-in and not even want to see what the Sanki Kingdom has to offer."
I grumbled in irritation, "Why do you seem so optimistic? I'm not staying." I sat up and crossed my arms, "Plus, shouldn't you get irritated that I'm married to the Chief's daughter?! What kind of so-called husband are you?"
Simon leaned forward with a smirk, "Why? Are you upset I don't feel jealous?"
I leaned backwards in disgust, "No. The last thing I want to see is you jealous. Just thinking about that gives me the chills."
Simon let out a small chuckle. He changed the subject smoothly, "You only have three more weeks left."
I rolled my eyes, "Thanks for the reminder."
"Also, my father wishes to have dinner with us tomorrow. So, you have to come tomorrow and you are not allowed to run off. If you do not attend, he will be suspicious."
I narrowed my eyes at him, "You want me to fail. Don't you?"
Simon smiled at my remark, "Naturally I want to become King. However, when I think about you failing after working so hard, it would be a lie to say it doesn't fill me with excitement."
I can't believe I thought Dante was a sadistic person when I first read this novel. Compared to Simon or Millie, Dante looks like an adorable puppy.
I glared at Simon, "You are truly a sadistic person."
He shrugged, "I've been called worse."
I rolled my eyes, "I'm sure you have."
