Since Wang Yani was gone, Gu Hanlin and Gu Hanqi's families also left, so only Gu Yechen's family and He Xinyan were left inside the large room.

They all stood up and Xu Mengya immediately walked over and grabbed onto He Xinyan's arm.

"Don't worry about that evil old woman! She can't stop you from being my daughter-in-law! And, although my son is a little stupid, I trust that he also knows how to make good decisions."

He Xinyan laughed softly, "Don't worry, Auntie Xu. I am fine and I trust Yechen."

Gu Yechen pulled his baby away from his mom and glanced at her before turning over to his dad, "Are you two going to stay here?"

Gu Hanyu looked at his son, "It is almost New Year, so your mom and I will just stay here for the next few days. You and Xinyan can stay if you want."

He then grabbed onto his wife's hand, and together, they walked out of the room.

"Do you want to stay?" Gu Yechen looked over at He Xinyan and asked gently.

He Xinyan obviously knew that Gu Yechen's family didn't want her to stay, even for another second. However. . . that only made her want to stay more!

"Sure! It's almost New Year. We can stay here."

She wanted to see what would happen for the next few days.

Gu Yechen led He Xinyan into the back of the huge mansion, and there were several rooms in the back. He pulled out a key and walked to a room towards the right.

When they walked in, Gu Yechen opened the lights, revealing a large room designed mainly using the colors, black, grey, and white.

"Is this your room?" He Xinyan walked in and looked around the huge space.

"Yes. I lived here for a while before." Their luggage had already been moved into the room, and Gu Yechen opened their suitcases.

Afterwards, they sat down together on the couch and He Xinyan grabbed onto his sleeve as she asked, "That Gu Kexin. . . why did your grandma adopt her?"

Gu Yechen raised one eyebrow, "I'm not sure. She adopted her as a baby, so my grandma was basically like a mom to Gu Kexin. That is why they are close."

He Xinyan frowned. It is weird for Wang Yani to choose to adopt a baby girl when she already has biological descendants. . .

He Xinyan raised one eyebrow, "I noticed something. . ."

"What?"

"I feel like your grandma doesn't only like Gu Kexin as a granddaughter. . . More like a granddaughter-in-law."

Gu Yechen frowned, "What does that mean?"

"Do you really not understand?" He Xinyan narrowed her eyes as she tried to figure out if Gu Yechen was pretending not to understand or if he really didn't understand.

"I don't understand."

He Xinyan sighed, "Ah, you are way too innocent. . ."

Innocent? That wasn't a description he got very often. . .

"Can't you tell? Your grandma obviously already has a plan for you. That may also be part of the reason for why she doesn't like me so much. The only granddaughter-in-law she accepts is her 'granddaughter', Gu Kexin."

Partially of how He Xinyan knew was the sixth sense and strong feeling she had inside of her, and this feeling she had was usually correct.

Gu Yechen furrowed his eyebrows together, "Really?"

He Xinyan clicked her tongue several times and nodded her head, "At least that is what I think. I still need further evidence though."

Gu Yechen suddenly became very serious as he grabbed onto He Xinyan's hand, "It doesn't matter. He Xinyan, you don't have to worry. You are the only person I love. . . I will only love you for the rest of my life. No one can change that, including my grandma. Understand?"

He Xinyan was slightly taken aback by the sudden seriousness in Gu Yechen's tone and expression, "I. . . I understand."

"Good." Gu Yechen's voice softened slightly.

He Xinyan blinked a few times before she leaned forward and hugged Gu Yechen tightly, "You promised me! You can't break your promise!"

Gu Yechen smiled, "I won't."

Gu Yechen and He Xinyan stayed inside their room for the rest of the afternoon until it was dinnertime. There was a knock at the door and Xu Mengya walked in with a tray in her hands.

"Xinyan?" She completely ignored her son as she walked over to He Xinyan, "I thought that you might not want to go eat dinner with the rest of the Gu family, because I don't want to either. So, I brought two servings of food over. Do you want to eat together?"

He Xinyan glanced at Gu Yechen, "Auntie Xu, are you sure it's okay that you are abandoning Uncle Gu to eat dinner with me?"

Xu Mengya shrugged, "Whatever! He can't do anything about me."

"Really?" Gu Yechen's voice sounded in the back. The questioning tone made Xu Mengya gulp as she suddenly felt a little guilty. She indeed didn't tell her husband that she was going to go eat here with Xinyan.

What if he comes over mid-meal and brings her back?!

Xu Mengya jumped up and scratched her head, "Haha. . . Xinyan, do you actually want to come over to my room with your Uncle Gu and we can eat dinner together!"

He Xinyan held her laugh in and nodded her head, "Sure."

He Xinyan followed Xu Mengya out of Gu Yechen's room. They walked down the side of the building, and fortunately, they didn't meet anyone along the way.

At the very corner, there was a door to a room with its lights on. When they walked in, He Xinyan noticed that the interior design was very similar to Gu Yechen's room. However, it was much bigger.

It was about the size of the entire first floor of the He mansion, and it had its own private kitchen, dining room, bedroom, restroom, and even a living room.

"Hubby!" Xu Mengya called as she pulled He Xinyan into the dining room, towards the delicious smell of food.

Behind them, Gu Yechen also followed them in.

The food was set onto the table, and it looked like the dishes the kitchen here cooked. They all looked very delicious, and even the plating was very well-designed and pretty.

The four of them sat down around the table and ate dinner together.

No one mentioned how it might be rude that they were here eating dinner alone when it was the old lady's birthday, and nobody came to find them and invite them to dinner either.

The people definitely knew that they had stayed, because their car was still parked outside the mansion, and they made some commotion when carrying their luggage in.

However, they didn't mind.

Gu Hanyu and Gu Yechen didn't seem to have such a good relationship with the Gu family, and Xu Mengya and He Xinyan didn't like most of the members of the Gu family either.

It was very nice eating dinner themselves, without any annoying people around to bother them.

"Xinyan, are you going to stay here for New Years' too?" Xu Mengya asked excitedly as she grabbed onto He Xinyan's arm.

He Xinyan looked over at Gu Yechen and shrugged, "Can I? I don't know if the people here want me to stay."

Xu Mengya scoffed, "Who cares about them? Xinyan, stay! If you leave, I won't have anyone to play with anymore. I don't like anyone here either, especially that evil old lady. If you are here, at least I won't be alone. Please. . ."

He Xinyan looked at Xu Mengya's pitiful and sad expression, and she couldn't say no. Plus, as long as she was here with Gu Yechen, she could spend New Years' anywhere.

She no longer cared about what the Gu family thought of her anymore. They didn't like her, and no matter what she did now, it won't change things anymore.

So she wasn't going to purposefully go and try to please those people. . . That was just a waste of effort, and they won't accept her even if she did - especially the old lady.

"Okay, Auntie Xu. The food here is really good! I'll be happy to stay over New Years."

Xu Mengya clapped her hands excitedly as she turned over to look at her husband, "Hanyu, did you hear that? Xinyan is staying here with me."

Gu Hanyu smiled sweetly at his wife as he placed a boneless piece of fish onto her plate, "Eat."

After eating dinner, Gu Yechen and He Xinyan returned to their room to get ready for bed. However, they chose a bad time to leave.

As they walked out of the room, they saw Wang Yani and Gu Kexin walk out from the dining area arm in arm. Wang Yani was smiling happily as Gu Kexin sweetly spoke to her.

It seemed like they had a very happy meal without anyone annoying around.

However, their smiles immediately disappeared when they saw Gu Yechen and He Xinyan walking over, also hand in hand.

"I'll take a shower first, okay?" He Xinyan said to Gu Yechen, having not noticed Wang Yani and Gu Kexin yet.

Gu Yechen smiled and leaned towards her, "How about we take it together?"
