Xu Mengya was so angry she was at a loss for words.

He Xinyan gently poked Gu Yechen and furrowed her eyebrows together. Gu Yechen casually raised one eyebrow and turned his attention back to the phone, "Madam Xu, we have to go eat now. I will see you tomorrow morning."

After that, Gu Yechen hung up the call.

"That's your mom! Can't you be more respectful?" He Xinyan rolled her eyes at Gu Yechen.

He put down his phone and crossed his arms together, "You are already on your mother-in-law's side?"

Gu Yechen picked up a scarf and wrapped it around He Xinyan's neck. Then, he gently pinched both sides of her cheeks.

"Mother-in-law?! Stop overthinking! Plus, Auntie Xu isn't only your mother! She is also my friend. I can't let you treat her so disrespectfully like that!"

Gu Yechen tilted his head slightly and frowned, "Baby, other families all have problems in the relationships between the mother and daughter-in-law. Why do I feel like in our family, this problem doesn't exist."

He Xinyan rolled her eyes.

"But now I am worried about myself. I think you two should not get together too often. Or else, my life won't be very good. . ."

"You're overthinking!" He Xinyan scoffed.

"What am I overthinking?"

"Me meeting Auntie Xu has nothing to do with whether your life will be good or not.

Gu Yechen suddenly became very serious as he looked at He Xinyan, "Xinyan, have you ever thought about marrying me?"

He Xinyan's hand that was reaching for her purse froze for a second before she replied, "You never asked me to marry you."

The two of them entered the restaurant on the first floor of the hotel. The waiter immediately led them to a private room when they saw Gu Yechen, and He Xinyan was beginning to wonder if everyone around this area knew of him.

As they ate, He Xinyan asked, "What time are we leaving tomorrow?"

"Whenever you want."

"I never want to go," He Xinyan replied truthfully.

Gu Yechen looked up at her, "If you really don't want to go, then we can just return home."

He Xinyan gulped and looked up, "Whatever, let's go tomorrow. We are here already. If we don't go, then it will be too rude. It's okay! They can't do anything to me anyway. Even if they bully me, I still have you, right?" He Xinyan didn't know if she was saying this to him or to herself.

Gu Yechen grinned, "Don't worry, they aren't monsters. I am there, and my parents are also there. No one can bully you."

The next morning, He Xinyan woke up before the sky outside even woke up.

She flipped around to look at the clock and saw that it was only 6 A.M. When she turned back around, she was met with a pair of dark eyes.

"Why are you awake so early? You can't fall asleep?" Gu Yechen asked as he pulled her closer to him.

"Yep. . ." He Xinyan replied.

"You're still nervous?"

He Xinyan shook her head, "No."

"Then why can't you go to sleep?"

He Xinyan pressed her lips together, "Maybe. . . it's because I'm not used to the bed here."

After saying this reason, He Xinyan couldn't help but laugh. She lifted her head up and looked at Gu Yechen, who was also smiling.

After smiling, it was like everything turned clear, including her attitude.

Somehow, the nervousness she was feeling the previous day seemed to all disappear after a good night's sleep. Now, she didn't seem to even care much about this event anymore.

It was just meeting some strangers! She did that every single day. If they liked her, then that was great! If they didn't like her, then there was nothing she could do.

It didn't matter. She wasn't the one that wanted to go anyway! It was Gu Yechen that dragged her here to annoy his relatives.

Yes. It had absolutely nothing to do with her.

Thinking like this, He Xinyan relaxed a lot more.

"It's not even 7 yet, it's too early. It is also very cold outside. Sleep a little more."

Besides Gu Yechen's grandma's 80th birthday, there was also another important event coming up.

The end of this year was coming up and it was almost New Year's Day already. So, when Gu Yechen and He Xinyan left the hotel to go to the Gu mansion, there weren't many cars out on the street.

Besides that, few people ever came to the most northeast part of Country Z anyway.

Gu Yechen drove the car, and he made several turns until the car finally turned onto an old brick road. The buildings here weren't as modern and large as the ones they had previously seen anymore. Instead, they had a more historical and authentic feeling.

It was clear that they had probably been around for a while now.

The trees on both sides of the road were also very thick and tall. However, since it was wintertime, there were no leaves. They were so tall He Xinyan couldn't even see the tops of them when looking from the side window of the car.

It signified their age and strong perseverance in surviving through all these centuries.

Their stories were probably very, very long.

The road continued to go up, and it seemed like they were driving up a mountain. The angle wasn't very steep, so it took a while for them to finally reach their destination.

The car stopped in front of a huge gate, and there were two large lions on both sides of the gate.

The gate opened when Gu Yechen's car stopped in front of it. He drove inside, and the gate closed again after the car had entered.

Then, they drove for several more minutes up a steeper cliff. Once they reached the top of the mountain, the Gu mansion came into view.

He Xinyan gasped when she saw the gigantic mansion. It was designed in a very historical and oriental style, and the height of the building seemed to be at least two stories.

The two sides of the building had two stone lions, except they were at least three times bigger than the ones guarding the gate.

There were also four huge pillars that were carved as dragons in the front of the building.

He Xinyan was in awe for several seconds before she slowly asked, "This house must be very old already, right?"

Gu Yechen parked the car in front of the building, "Yes. It has several hundred years of history."

He unbuckled his seatbelt then helped He Xinyan unbuckle hers.

"Several hundred years?!" He Xinyan's mouth fell wide open, and her eyes did the same.

Gu Yechen nodded his head, "Yes. My great great grandfather was a general, and this house was ordered to be built by the emperor for him."

He Xinyan was even more surprised as Gu Yechen talked about his family's history. So, the Gu family wasn't just rich and powerful. Its power has been around for several hundred years.

The emperor built this place especially for his great great grandfather?! That was an honor that very few people could ever experience.

"So. . . So your family has been in power for several centuries already?" He Xinyan calculated quickly with her fingers, "Six generations?!"

Gu Yechen gently rubbed her head, "It's not as amazing as you think. Come on, let's go."

The two of them got out of the car and walked around to the trunk to get the gifts they had brought for Gu Yechen's relatives.

After they took them out of the car, they walked towards the building. The main building was still a walk away, and there was an area of water that seemed like a pond in the middle.

There were several fish swimming in the water, and several water lilies afloat on the top. Since it was winter, the water lilies weren't in bloom, but just thinking about the beautiful sight was breathtaking by itself.

To walk from the entrance to the main building, there was a single wide bridge that connected the two areas of land, and it was made of stone. There were some small cracks on the bridge to show how long it has been here already.

As they walked, He Xinyan looked around curiously at the beautiful sight. The rumors about this place didn't do it justice! This was much more grand and beautiful than what she had thought!

After the pond, there was an open space in the middle before reaching the building.

Gu Yechen walked slowly to allow He Xinyan to take in the environment around her. When they finally reached the open space, they could hear the chatter coming from the main building already.

Suddenly, there was a woman's voice and fast footsteps.

"I hear someone! It must be Gu Yechen!"
