Capitalist Monster Hunter Chapter 10

10. Break Time (2)
“Can the memory injection go wrong?”
[The failure rate for the memory injection procedure is only 2%. Don’t worry, user Han Yoo-sung.]
“What's that two percent?”
[The side effects of a failed procedure can cause the brain to become overloaded and melt.]
Eve was talking as if the brain melting was nothing.
[Don’t worry. As I said before, the probability of failure is only 2%.]
“Yeah, it's only two percent, so it’s not going to fail, right?”
[For sure.]
He felt a little nervous, but he decided to move on for now. It was now time to settle something.
“Titania? Can you hear me?”
[Who are you talking to?]
Eve gave him a significant look as Yoo-sung was talking to the air.
Even though Eve is an Artificial Intelligence and doesn’t have a face, the lens of the drone with Eve in it seemed to be moving strangely, making it look like that.
Few minutes have passed since Yoo-sung called Titania. Suddenly, some lights came together in the air, then Titania appeared.
“Mr. Yoo-sung!”
Titania smiled brightly and greeted him, but Yoo-sung still remembered it was because of that Angel that he had to go through the trouble.
“You've collected a lot of points! That's great!”
“I've collected a lot of points?”
“Yes! The points you've collected are close to a hundred thousand points. It's been only less than a month since you became a Hunter. That’s amazing!”
“Hmm… Really?”
“Yes, really! Would you like to check it out?”
As Titania said that, she showed the system window in front of Yoo-sung.
[Han Yoo-sung]
Strength: F+ Speed: F+ Stamina: F
Mana: No Grade
Dark Energy: No Grade
Inner Energy: No Grade
Skill: None
Points Possessed: 98,500
“98,500 points?”
As Titania said, the points were really close to 100,000.
“There’s no way I would’ve gathered so many points.”
The only thing he killed was a Crochet. He didn't know how many points the Crochet gave. He was sure that killing the Crochet wouldn’t give that many points.
Yoo-sung, who was wondering about where all the points came from, remembered the tab that showed success in the Donation Mission.
‘That's it.’
He couldn't even check properly because he was paying attention to the Crochets, but he had a lot of tabs coming up at the same time. He was certain that’s where the points came from.
[Practitioner Sword]
[Common Random Box x 10]
[Body-enhancing Potion]
[Common Health Recovery Potion x 120]
[Common Mana Potion x 100]
[Samjae Sword Art]
[Samjae Inner Energy Control]
[Tough Set – Long Sword, Black Stone, Boots]

In addition to the points, the inventory was full of items.
“There are so many potions.”
In particular, the number of potions was quite large. Even though it was a common class, there were more than a hundred health and mana potions.
Yoo-sung admired the wealth of the Gods and Spirits.
“So, can I now use some ability if I buy a Mana Training skill book and magic books in the store?”
“That’s right!”
Things have finally begun to work normally. It felt like the twisted cog was back in place.
[This must be the support angel that user Han Yoo-sung mentioned about.]
“Yes! I'm his support angel! By the way, who are you?”
[I’m this way.]
Titania tilted her head because she couldn't locate Eve, but when she found her, she was horrified.
“Ahhhhhhh! Are you stuck inside this metal object? I’ll get you out right now!”
[I’ll have to refuse. If the drone breaks, I’ll have to go back into the uncomfortable terminal.]
“Mr. Yoo-sung, who is that?” Titania asked Yoo-sung while staring curiously at the drone.
“It's an Artificial Intelligence that helps me. Titania, it'll be easy to think of Artificial Intelligence as something like you—a support angel.”
“What? A support angel? Don't abandon me! I won't make a mistake again!! Hnng!”
Titania was crying over the word ‘support angel’. Yoo-sung thought it was cute and figured he would tease Titania for a moment.
“You made so many mistakes that I have to change my support angel.”
“Oh, no! My friends will tease me if I get fired. Please don't fire me. I'll work hard, huh? I'll do really well. I won't make any mistakes. Please don't throw me away!”
Tears welled up in Titania's eyes with her drooping wings. It looked like tears would spill out if someone touched her cheek. Yoo-sung felt sorry looking at her.
“Then, you won't make a mistake again, will you?”
“Yes, yes! I won't! Please don't throw me away!”
“If you make any more mistakes again next time, it's really over then. I'll let you go this time.”
Titania's expression brightened again when Yoo-sung said he would let her go just once. The drooping wings started flapping again. Yoo-sung laughed when he noticed that her wings move depending on her mood. It was like he was looking at a puppy's tail.
Titania looked at the drone Eve was in and smiled triumphantly.
“I won!”
[…?]
She didn’t know what it was, but it seemed that Titania won.
“Yoo-sung, why don't you open the random box?”
“Random box?”
“Yes! Even though it’s a common class, if you are lucky, you can get an extremely rare item! The odds are less than 0.1 percent!”

The latter sentence annoyed Yoo-sung, but he decided to move on for now. Yoo-sung took out a random box from the inventory.
Pulling out items from the inventory was simple. This system was made quite convenient for the Hunter, so everything was done simply by thinking about it. When he thought about taking out a random box, the item popped up in front of his eyes.
“Is this the random box? The box looks small.”
“The size of the box doesn't matter. The important thing is the contents. In this little box, a giant battle golem could come out!”
According to Titania, the size of the box doesn’t matter to its contents inside. Maybe it had a spell cast on it.
“I never thought I'd open a random box in real life.”
He didn't know that he would be interacting with the system in real life, which has always been annoying. Random boxes were a really stupid system.
Although Yoo-sung was busy with work, Yoo-sung sometimes played games like mobile games or computer online games.
The thing Yoo-sung hated the most in games was random boxes and random draws.
The two systems with random in front were really stupid. The advertisements show that rare items can be easily obtained, but most of them only have a 1% chance of obtaining the item or even less than 1%.
But, most of the items that can be obtained through random boxes or draws were trash items that were nothing more than junk items.
Nevertheless, people bet their lives on this thread-like probability.
The reason was really simple. It’s because there were people who got the rare items through impossible odds.
There were three main categories of players that had the rare items through those odds.
The first category was people who will pay to win.
They will spend a lot of cash in random boxes even though the item might not come out. They are brave people who will never stop spending until the item comes out.
However, their wallets also had a limit because they don’t have their money growing from trees. Surprisingly, the items they wanted will drop at the moment they hesitate to spend more money. It is really a mysterious function.
The reason Yoo-sung, who was too busy saving money for living expenses, knows so well about this, is because there was a person close to Yoo-sung who was like that.
That was Yoo-sung’s boss. The boss doesn’t hesitate to spend money on games. He hated farming up even in the game. That’s why the boss spends a certain amount of money on the game every month.
Interestingly, the moment the boss hesitates to spend more money, the item he wanted would drop, and the boss would continue to play the game with satisfaction.
Yoo-sung, who was watching from the side, thought the game company was very clever. Come to think of it, there might be an algorithm programmed in the game.
For example, an algorithm that makes the item drop if a person who has been spending money continuously stops spending for a certain time.
If the item doesn't come out even if they keep spending money, they might get angry and quit the game, and the game company knows this.
The second category is really lucky people.
They use their pure luck to get rare items from random boxes.
They used the money they earned in the game on random boxes, and sometimes, they would get rare items. Those players will post them on the game community site, causing a stir.
Their post will earn envy and anger from some and motivation for others.
‘Oh, he didn’t spend a single dime but got a rare item?’
‘Then, I'll be able to also get it, right?’
‘If he didn't spend money but still got it, wouldn't it be quicker for me if I spend some money?’
Those who have seen the post come up with a variety of ideas. Some would put those ideas into action, even though there is no guarantee that they will do well.
The third category is the vicious one.
It is when employees of game companies manipulate game data to obtain items.
It's really surprising, but this has often happened.
Yoo-sung had seen posts related to it while surfing the Internet, and it went something like this.
A user who spent millions of won on a game posted a complaint that rare items would not come out from random boxes no matter how much money he spent.
‘Is it true that the rare items drop from random boxes?’
‘I haven't seen anyone get rare items so far.’
‘I also spent millions of won but didn't get the item.’
The game company, after seeing the user's complaint, showed the information of players who got the item. They said, “The item can be obtained. However, it is not easy to get it because the probability is so low”.
However, a user who was suspicious about the response tracked the usernames on the list and found out the accounts were related to the game's employees. Because of this, there was a huge controversy.
Yoo-sung, who has often seen many of these cases, really hated random systems. He really didn't like it when he had to spend money on random boxes that might or might not give good items.
It's not because an item Yoo-sung wanted from the random box he purchased would not come out.
Yes.
That is right.

And Simon answered their call with a single statement that nobody understood "Et super mos absit hoc hodie!" "Yah!" "WWWaaaaaaahhhhhhhh!" "AAAlllllaaaaallllaaaaallllaaaa!" "EeEEellllleeeeeelllllleeeeeeuuuuuuu!" I, too, yelled a battle cry at the top of my lungs. I had no idea what Simon had just spouted but from Camilla's giggling, I could guess that Simon thought that spouting nonsense was his way of getting out of the earlier predicament. "I forbid death upon this day," Camilla said. "What?" I answered a bit at a loss. "Ancient Latin," she replied smugly, "He said 'I forbid death upon this day'." I laughed aloud "Then he is gonna be really disappointed in everyone here," Camilla did not reply and instead took a deep breath. I did the same, zoning out everything in my surroundings. The environment became a world of electrical pulses traveling across several networks. I perceived the world through my lightning and sped my heartbeat to inhuman levels. Third step… Fourth step… Fifth step… Then light jogging… Speeding up… Running … Running faster…. Journey of my Core
I have a hard time referring anything that I write to as 'Original'. The longer we as a species exist the harder it is to be truly original, I am certainly influenced by all that I read and watch Including but not limited to J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit, and all of the stories here on Royal Road. From the start the MC is only able to comprehend the most basic of what is impacting it with very little to no understanding of the MC's surroundings. There may be updates in the future, but I am in no way a consistant writer. I will never claim to be the best artist, but I drew a representation for my story. Procrastination... Procrastination... Procrastination... Procrastination... Procrastination...
