Noob Player Chapter 48

Shen plucked the Guardian Fish from the trunk. He observed the spear-like snout before he looked at the sword in his hand. Then he touched the spearhead with his finger.
It was sleek as it was scaly. He then glanced at the sword in his hand once more and hit the snout.
Clank!
The sound confirmed his conjecture that the snout was made of steel. His eyes brightened and looked at the body that was full of wounds.
"Now… now… now… how to skin cut the fish," Shen rotated the fish, observing the shape while projecting the inside fish through his head.
"Nah, I don't need the meat, so there is no need for me to be careful about the meat," Realizing this, Shen cut the fish's belly.
He pointed at the belly with the sword and pushed the sword. He then cut the belly open down to the tail. This time he repeated the action, but he did that from the top side of the fish.
Shen cut the meat crudely from the outside. He cleared the intestines, the smaller bones, and the meat. In five minutes, the Guardian Fish only left with the bone, head, and the snout.
The bone was about as big as two fingers. White, smooth, and around fifteen centimeters. It was somehow similar to a human's bone in the picture. To his delight, the bone reached the head, and from the position, the bone seemed to be connected to the spearhead-like snout.
Through the bone, he cleaned the head as well. The scale around the Guardian Fish's head was tougher than the one on the body. It took him more effort to clear the fish's head.
Just as he predicted, the bone was connected to the spearhead-like snout. He held the bone he just cleaned and swung it a few times. It was like a dagger but instead of a blade, it was a spearhead.

"Can I use this as a weapon?" If he could use this as a weapon, he did not need to worry about the durability as he would use the bone for his weapon. The weapon's crisis would be solved.
He looked at the bone in his head to find more information.
————————
[Guardian Fish's bone spear]
Type: Material
Description: A bone that could be harvested from Guardian Fish. It is steely and sharp, a good material for smithing, and a good material to make a spear!
————————
It did not indicate whether he could use the bone in a fight or not, "It seems I don't have a choice but to try it out directly."
Shen stored the sword in his inventory. He did not throw the sword away as the sword was his lifeline if the bone did not work.
Holding the bone spear, he approached the river. He stood at the river's edge, waiting for another prey to come up. It did not take a long time for new prey to come out of the water.
The water splashed as Shen immediately sidestepped to the right. The timing to dodge the attack was perfect. Another Guardian Fish lured onto the land.
Shen immediately ran to the side, attracting the Guardian Fish's attention. What happened was just a repeat action. He baited the fish further from the river before finally standing in front of a tree.
He chose a tree with a big trunk, making sure the Guardian Fish would not be able to break free from the tree. Having his back pasted on the tree, Shen waited for the Guardian Fish to come closer.
When the two meters range was reached by the fish, Shen immediately ducked down.
Swoosh!
He could feel a gush of wind strike his hair and followed with a "Thud". He walked to the side and stood up. The second Guardian Fish was trapped on the tree.

It did not matter even if the bone spear was very short. His target was the trapped prey. Holding the bone spear tightly, he stabbed the trapped Guardian Fish.
He pierced the Guardian Fish's side with the bone spear.

A red number floated above the fish. The bone spear was working even though it was not a weapon. Shen's eyes shone brightly. The weapon crisis was solved quickly.
"Kekekeke…" Shen cackled happily by himself.
After that, he happily, repeatedly stabbed the trapped Guardian Fish.

Sometimes he would trigger the critical strike. It took him longer compared to when he used the sword. He did not mind; rather than losing his weapon, he would take his time to kill the Guardian Fish.
[You have killed Guardian Fish!]
[You gained 22,400 Experiences!]
[You have leveled up!]
[You gained 10 Status Points!]
[You have reached level 8!]
Shen's smile was getting wider after hearing the notification. This was his happiest moment since the first day he played Tribe Online.
He immediately allocated all the Status Points, +3 Agility, +1 Dexterity, +2 for the other status. He was now level 8, and Shen would not stop at any moment.
He lured another Guardian Fish and trapped them on the tree again. On his third hunt, he realized the drawback of the bone spear. It broke when he was halfway killing the third Guardian Fish.
He did not have any choice but to use the Inferior-Grade Sword to finish the Guardian Fish. He did not want the Guardian Fish to die from running out of breath.
When he killed the third Guardian Fish, Rusty Sword's durability was at 2%. A few strikes then the sword would break.
[You have killed Guardian Fish!]
[You gained 22,400 Experiences!
Shen retrieved the dead bodies from the tree and started to cut the fish. He cut the tail and started from there. It took seven minutes to get the bone spear.
Then he took out the second Guardian Fish he killed today. He spent over ten minutes retrieving the bone spear from the Guardian Fish.
Just like that, he got two new weapons to kill more Guardian Fish.
He continued the hunt as he killed seven more Guardian Fishes.
[You have killed Guardian Fish!]
[You gained 22,400 Experiences!]
[You have reached Level 10!]
[You can now choose a class skill!]

NOVA INTERIT.US
It's 2063, and the town along with much of the nation are in disarray. The decay started years before the Great Event. Our town still had hope thanks to the five families, who'd created a blockchain based water distribution system for the locals, a valuable secret hidden from the Global Water Commission and their network of mercenaries. Earlier in the mid-2040's, right after the state secessions of Idaho, Montana, and Texas, the Global Council of Water Commissioners made their deals and moved into towns throughout the country. They called it "the integration." The Commission and their contractors integrated with municipal water departments, using their organized network to invade like parasites on local services. It all coincided with the 29th Amendment to the United States Constitution, later referred to as the Regional Trident Plan. Nova is a story about survival, power structures, the turning of relationships, and the networking between people and the systems to which they belong. It’s about A.I. blockchain possibility, and its potential for human betterment versus our detriment. It’s about the question of whether or not we need to be saved from ourselves, and by who or what? The Great Event at the end of the first chapter might just be what actually saves us. The epilogue will take place in 2517. This scene is fully sketched and the full arc of the novel is set. I expect to finish Nova Interitus by summer of 2023. This is realist hard-sci-fi dystopian fiction. I hope you find Nova to be a challenging and consuming story. This is not something I planned to write. It all came to me in a dream and I haven't been able to stop writing it. This Royal Road posting is basically a beta test with chapters and drafts to get some feedback and see if there's any readership for this narrative. For the full experience read Nova on Substack. I will be narrating a podcast version later this year there. https://novainteritus.substack.com/
