Noob Player Chapter 36

"Training?" Shen repeated the word to make sure he did not hear it wrong.
'Is it a quest?' He could not help but think so. Even though the motto of Tribe Online was, No Quest but Conquest. An individual quest was still available, but there was no main story quest.
"Come, follow me!" Old Man Yosu waved his hand at Shen as he walked out of the village.
Shen found another hope, he followed the old man out. Yosu walked around to the back of the house. Wooden closure covered the backyard of the house. Yosu pushed the door and Shen was surprised at what he saw inside the wooden closure.
Various kinds of tools were laying on the back, similar to gym tools. There was even the weightlifting tool he often saw on the tv. However, the tool mostly used stone instead of iron.
"Come here!" Yosu called him.
Shen looked toward the old man. The old man was standing next to a stone that was about the size of his body. There were ropes attached to the round stone.
"Before you start thinking of hunting the monster in the forest. You should build your body first," Yosu poked Shen's upper arm and immediately shook his head.
"Take this and run twenty laps!" The old man pointed at the stone next to him.
Shen looked at the stone then he looked at the old man. If this was a quest, there should be an interface for the quest. However, there was no such thing, meaning this was not a quest. He thought he would earn exp from finishing the quest, another way to level up but the old man was serious about the training.
'Does this really help me?' Shen questioned himself. However, by the fact that the NPC was triggered and tried to take any action, there must be something behind this training.

'It's not like I have any other way to help myself from the situation!'
"Twenty laps?" Shen reached the rope and asked Yosu.
"Yes, twenty laps of the village. Follow the fence and run! Finish it even if you have to crawl!" The old man suddenly became strict with his instruction.
Shen nodded his head and picked the stone. The stone should be over ten kilos, quite heavy to have this while running. But it was still within his scope.
Just like a back, he got the stone on his back and walked out of the village. While the forest was filled with monsters, the village's perimeter was quite safe.
Taking a deep breath, Shen started to run. Old Man Yosu did not ask him to run as fast as he could but he had just to finish without a time limit. This was not about speed, but endurance.
In this case, he did not have to run fast but at a constant speed while maintaining his breathing. He could not be too slow, but he could not walk, it was jogging but with weight on his back.
Shen then started to jog. He pulled the rope tight so the stone would not hit his back while he jogged. The first five laps were easy, but in the next lap, he started to run out of breath.
Since he was in the game, he thought it was about the Stamina Point. He thought he could not run out of breath as long as he had stamina. He was wrong in this regard.
Shen could see his stamina was still 76, more than half. He was not supposed to be out of breath. But that was not the case.
"So you Sky really tried to make the game close to reality, huh?" At the tenth lap, Shen stopped jogging but a quick lap.

If there was something to learn, it was that when he was out of breath, he would lose Stamina faster. This was the tenth lap but he only had 13 SP left. This was bad, he would not be able to finish the twenty laps if this continued.
Shen then remembered Yosu's words. He had to finish the run even if he had to crawl. In the end, he kept running with the stone on his back. He expended the 13 SP to finish the eleventh lap.
[Your Stamina has been depleted!]
[You can't move for 10 seconds!]
At the notification, his vision became blurry, and he felt the world was shaking. It lasted ten seconds as the aftereffect of running out of stamina was gone.
[You have overworked your body, now you are in a weakened state!]
The weakened state, meaning he lost half of his attributes for a certain amount of time. He became two times slower, and he noticed that the red bar of the stamina had turned pink, meaning he was in a weakened state.
However, the pink bar was full, meaning he could continue running two times slower. He should be able to finish the twenty laps within a three-quarter hour or even faster. But thanks to the penalty for depleting all his stamina, he finished the twenty laps in two hours.
As soon as he stopped in front of the entrance of the village, he threw his body to the ground.
[You have worked your body to the limit!]
[Congratulations! You gained +1 Agility and +2 Endurance!]
Shen just closed his eyes as he tried to stabilize his breathing. However, he immediately opened his eyes again after he heard that.
He blinked his eyes a few times to make sure this was real. He looked at the interface again and again. What he heard was real, and what he saw right now was also real.

City of Captives
In the Qursan Empire, the grey walls of the City press down on its subjects. It is a highly divided society which is based on the magical strength of its citizens. While the most powerful are trained as Mages, the majority of citizens use their limited skills with Essence to power the City in their assigned jobs. Jano is pretty much the lowest of the low in the Qursan Empire. A Class Ten citizen forced into transitory work after having his power restricted. When he gets the opportunity to change all of that, he takes it with both hands. This is a slow burning progression fantasy. Please expect at least two chapters per week. I love writing this story but I do have unfortunate things to deal with like work and life outside of writing. I may be able to write and edit more than that, but it will never be less! This is largely still a draft. I hope to use any comments and reviews in the future. Thanks for reading!
