Noob Player Chapter 23

Shen immediately checked his inventory and was relieved to see the spear did not drop, "Ah, it does not matter even my item dropped, I can retrieve it back since no one around."
He then realized that he was the only person in this area. No NPC and no other players, he was alone in this remote village.
"But how is that possible…" he muttered in a low voice, "Is it another bug?"
Since he experienced the bug from the start of the game, he could not but think so each time he encountered a bizarre encounter, "There's no way, one bug is understandable, but more than one?"
Shen shook his head. This was Sky he was talking about, billions worth corporation. They would not tolerate such a thing to happen to their main product.
"Let's try it again then, maybe it's a boss?" He mumbled as he made his way toward the exit.
Shen exited the village, in the same fashion as before. He ran out of the gate, thinking the beforehand encounter was not normal.
Twenty seconds passed, and he was resurrected again. He died again right after stepping out of the village. His eyes widened wide as his eyeballs almost popped out.
He just could not believe that he died again. While dozing off, he walked out of the village once again. He learned his lesson, he walked slowly and cautiously.
The village he was in was located in the middle of the forest. It was surrounded by tall trees, grassy land, bushes, and more.
Shen went in the same direction, going straight ahead. He walked stealthily so as not to alert the monster that killed him before.
His ears perked up in alert, trying to listen to the steps. After a short walk, he heard steps ahead of him. He approached the tree ahead of him and peeked out.
He found the monster that had been killing him twice. He was killed in two strikes. Yes, this was what shocked him, he died in two attacks.

The one that killed him was the chicken but not just a normal chicken. It was 1.5 meters tall, it had fifty centimeter long arms, and its beak shone like a blade.
The chicken was pecking the ground, tearing apart the grassy land with its beak.
From his spot, Shen peeked out. The black-feathered chicken had not noticed his arrival yet. He frowned, it turned out the chicken was not only big but strong too.
He thought it was just the size that was abnormal. However, he found out that the chicken was not just a normal mob. He died from two pecks of the beak right into his chest.
That was right, two pecks and he died. That was why he was resurrected with a shocked expression, could not believe what he went through.
"This is the start of the game, the monster should not be that strong…" Shen muttered as he complained.
He then gazed at the top of the chicken. There was a red bar there. It was the chicken's health point. But that was it, he could not get any information about the chicken unless he landed an attack on it.
"Let's try again, I was too careless before…" Shen muttered in a low voice. He believed that early mobsters should not be that strong.
He stepped out of his hiding spot. It was just one step and the chicken was fifteen meters away from him, but it immediately turned its head toward him.
"I haven't used my spear and my skill before, this time I will kill you!!!" With the [Gift Spear] in his hand, Shen activated [Void Step].
The chicken did not care about what he said as it charged toward him as soon as it spotted him.
Shen also ran toward the chicken, but he miscalculated something. The skill, he was not used with the sudden fifty percent boost of speed.
"Oh, f*ck!" He cursed out as he lost control of his speed. He soon crashed against the chicken's chest.

The chicken was surprised too, it took momentarily a step back. Unfortunate for Shen, his reaction was too late. The chicken's hand-like talent grabbed his head.
Swoosh! Swoosh!
With two lightning pecks, his head was burst out open.
Shen resurrected back to the village, he was smiling wryly. He did not expect that the burst movement would work like that, "Dang, this game is too real…"
A skill that should become his advantage killed him. But he found out one thing, he had a chance against the chicken.
He walked out of the respawn spot while checking his stamina. Since he was resurrected, his stamina went back full.
"Let's get used to the skill first…" he activated the [Void Step] and ran around the village. He then discovered that [Void Step] only increased his speed at the initial burst. It did not increase his speed consistently. His speed would be slowing down to normal if he kept running.
However, Shen found the trick he could use to increase his speed consistently. He just needed to stop right before the duration [Void Step] and run again. By doing this, he got two times the burst movement.
"It's a bit tricky, I need to stop at the right moment…" he muttered in a low voice.
He was currently resting to recover his Stamina. It took him nine tries to get used to the skill.
He laid down in front of Yosu's house, facing the sky. The sky had turned dark yellow, the night was about to come. He checked his stamina, 5/100.
Shen was aware that went out in his condition was the same as suicide. He had died many times already. Dying because he ran out of stamina was silly.
He rested for five minutes, his stamina returned to 45. He did not want to go out with just 45 stamina. So he intended to wait until he fully recovered.
Shen got up, he looked toward the house next to Yosu's house. The house with spears crossed each other's symbols, "Does someone like Yosu stay inside?"
He was curious and headed toward the house. Just as he was about to enter the house, he heard a voice in his head, "Don't be greedy, Young'un! You have inherited Yosu's Legacy, why do you still want to get mine too?"
There was a cold female voice that entered his ears. Shen was shocked and immediately turned around. He scanned the surroundings, but he saw no one.
He felt that the voice was coming from behind, he was sure about that. Soon he felt a chill on his spine, and he immediately backed down from the house.
The owner seemed not to welcome him even though he did not eye anything inside. He was just curious what was inside, wondering whether there was another stone statue.
"No, the voice should be real, and it might be a similar stone statue…" Soon he realized something. Each house presented a class, and only the classless or someone who had inherited the legacy could enter the house.
Trying to prove his conjecture, he went to Yosu's house. There was no voice or anything that tried to prevent him. He then moved to another house, the house across from Yosu's house.
It was the house with a hammer and an anvil as the symbol. This time, he heard a man's voice, rough and old. It was about the same, he was not allowed to enter the house.
"I see…" He finally realized that he was in a hidden village where Legendary Classes gathered, "What if I sell this information to the rich dudes? I can get rich by selling the information…"

Schooling at a top culinary academy in the capital. An honorable position as heir to House Boulier, a line of merchant-lords who have charmed the rich and powerful with their cooking for centuries. And in a single night, it all burned to ash. When the outbreak of war destroys his hometown, Charles is charged with escorting his family’s sacred treasure—a recipe book passed down for untold generations—out of harm's way. But his simple mission grows complicated when he’s captured by one of the most feared battalions in the world: the Spears of Mercy. Life as a prisoner in their war camp is brutal and uncertain. Charles has few allies and even fewer strengths to rely on. Only his skills in the culinary arts, honed over a lifetime in the kitchen, are deemed useful enough to keep him alive another day. But he’s not out of hope just yet. With a dash of wit, a pinch of luck, and some very creative cooking, he might just find a way to recover his family’s legacy and take back his freedom. This project is a food-themed fantasy that centers on cooking and chefs. The setting spans a wide world featuring ingredients/recipes both real and inspired by traditional fantasy. I'll eventually be publishing it as a full-length novel (or series of novels depending on length). These are the first draft chapters. I'll likely be re-writing more than once, then editing before publishing, so impressions and feedback are quite welcome. If you like the story so far and you're interested in being an early reviewer for the final product, feel free to message me. I'm looking for an artist to make some concept art and a cover (the cover shown here is just a temporary placeholder). A stand-alone novel for now, but it may turn into a series down the road.

Contact Through Voided Lenses
[participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Edit: Fixed some inaccuracies in the synopsis. The void is a vast unexplored ocean filled with various wonders and dangers all waiting to be explored by those brave enough to travel and record. Many souls do find themselves brave enough to face the vast distances, the various risks to personal safety and do the hundreds of task required on a craft. However, at times the void itself can be boring with absolutely nothing to do but as time pass and more and better technology is reached, things got better. The various trips got faster, communications became faster than light and you can be home to see your loved ones after only months now. Through the various planets whether rocky or gaseous, the various stars whether small or giant, the various systems both eerily similar or completely alien. As part of an expeditionary scientific exploratory survey craft, one could see that the void offers no reprieve from all the discoveries and wonders. At times, it can feel empty and silent where no soul can hear you scream and at others it can be overwhelming with sudden phenomenon that can overwhelm the brightest of minds. The void itself is a truly fascinating ocean where one must chart the various islands or drown in its deadly tidal waves. But the question still remained no matter how you try to hide it in of itself… is there truly other intelligent life out there? Are we alone in this ocean? Those very questions still haunt the minds of those on the crafts themselves as they brace for every jump ready for the unknown and the known. Many would try to explain that yes there is other intelligent life out there whilst other still say no after 2 centuries of continuous flight out of the home system. Still, those are questions that bury deep in the minds of the crew and those at home as the voidcraft jumps to a system with a single yellow star orbited by 8 other planets with one crowning blue jewel being the 3rd closest with its 5 oceans and 7 continents, a planet called Dirt which is inhabited by a primitive species called Humanity. Hello, author here and this is my newest dive into writing particularly for the Writathon currently in progress being my first one. I hope you give me story a try but in case you still want more information on what you’re getting into, below are some pointers about the story itself. First Contact: CTVL is a story about a first contact scenario between an advanced alien civilization and a slightly more advanced modern day humanity on their planet called Dirt. Characters: The story will take place mainly on the perspective of the alien visitors themselves though there will be human POV characters who will show how the rest of humanity react through media and forums. Action: It won’t be an actual alien invasion but you have to see for yourself how well first contact went. Sci-Fi: I will be very forward here, I WILL bend the rules of physics in order to add in parts of the plot and there WILL be parts that makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Theme: It will be a brooding story talking about the futility of pe… Just kidding, it’s mostly wholesome stuff to be honest here. Alien: The aliens themselves will… actually why should I tell you, you have to go and read it to find out what the aliens are though I will draw a few things here and there to aid in the process. Extra tidbit: If you are a grammar nazi or someone who really wants a realistic scifi story... this story is probably not for you at all. Anyways, that’s pretty much all I can say before I spoil something major of the plot itself, the story is slice of life so make sure that type of story is what you like because I am terrible with anything else as I found out, anyways, have a good time everyone and good luck to the other Writathon participants.
