Wu Lina's patience was wearing out. She was unable to eat anything. All she would do is stand out of his room and keep watching him. However, the doctors pitied her and they allowed her to enter his room fully clothed in scrubs, mask, gloves and head cover. Wearing those Wu Lina entered his room and immediately went to hold his hand.

His hand felt cold. There were numerous tubes running out of his body. Wu Lina's heart ached and she wanted to cry again. But she restrained herself and said in a very low voice, "Yang Xinyu, come back to me. Don't punish me please. I cannot do this without you. I am too young to stay alone." She picked his hand and brought it to touch her belly, where she could feel her kids kicking inside. "See, they are waiting for their dad. They miss you talking to them every night." Wu Lina laughed mildly and continued, "I know you had been talking to them to come on your side."

She bent over him and stroked his cheeks very lightly. A tear from her fell on his forehead, and his eyes fluttered. Wu Lina could see that Yang Xinyu had opened his eyes drowsily. She became excited and called his name again, "Xinyu, Xinyu, I am here."

But Yang Xinyu closed his eyes again.

Wu Lina hurried outside the room to inform the doctor about Yang Xinyu's progress. The doctors came in to check on his vitals and were happy that he was improving. One of the doctors said, "Wu Lina, we are intrigued that Yang Xinyu showed any reaction when you talked to him. It would be nice if you would talk to him every now and then. We cannot allow you to stay here 24x7 but you can come here twice a day for half an hour each and talk to him. However, you will have to wear all these protective clothes every time you step into this room."

Wu Lina nodded enthusiastically and said, "Yes doctor."

The doctors exited the room leaving her with him. She held his hand again and said, "Yang Xinyu, thank you for showing me a sign. I know you will come back."

Meanwhile the mayor was again being called for an emergency board meeting. Even though he had resigned as the Chairman, he was still going there on voluntary basis. After Yang Xinyu's issue, he had to go there on an everyday basis. So he would spend an hour two at the company and then spend the rest of the time in the mayor's office. He would, in-between go to the hospital to see Yang Xinyu and Wu Lina. Things had become extremely hectic for him for those two days.

On the third day, in the morning, while Wu Lina was talking to Yang Xinyu, she felt as though he was trying to hold her hand tighter. She clasped his hand and smiled. She said, "I am right here Xini."

By the time it was evening, Yang Xinyu gained complete consciousness. He opened his eyes to see Wu Lina looking at him intently. When she saw that he had opened his eyes, she couldn't hold her joy and jumped from her chair to clasp his hand tightly. "Yang Xinyu!"

He smiled faintly at her. His lips were dry and the color of his face was pale. "I will be right back Yang Xinyu," she said.

Wu Lina hurried out of the room and called the doctors. Then she placed a call to her father-in-law.

It was an exhilarating moment. All the doctors had started taking his vital statistics instantaneously and they asked Wu Lina to wait outside. She kept looking at Yang Xinyu while he kept gazing at her.

They made it together!

His shoulder had been operated for a long time and the doctor said that you had indeed been lucky, because the rifle that the sniper had used was a powerful machine and could have killed him if he hadn't ducked.

After a week, Yang Xinyu was removed from the special hospital room and shifted to the VIP room where Wu Lina could stay with him 24x7. He was slowly recovering and Wu Lina did not leave him even for a second.

One day while she was making him his soup, she said, "Yang Xinyu, thank you keeping your promise of never leaving me."

Yang Xinyu smiled weakly and replied, "Don't even think that I will leave you alone. I am not strong enough to imagine you with anyone else other than me."

Wu Lina chuckled.

Slowly the number of tubes that were coming out of his body reduced and Wu Lina could sit on his bed. Earlier she was scared that she would step on any of them and so she stayed away. A week later there wasn't any tube.

Wu Lina would climb by his side and they would stay near each other even if they were doing unrelated work. The incident had caused such a scare in Wu Lina's mind that she would keep touching Yang Xinyu just to assure herself that she wasn't dreaming.

One day he asked, "Who was behind the incident?"
