Chapter 891: Let’s Have a Chat
“Alright, continue the treatment. Your body will slowly recover,” Wang Yao said.
It was true that the disease was getting better. After a combination of acupuncture and drug treatment, the tumor had not spread and was growing smaller. This was an improvement.
“Yes, this is all thanks to you.”
“We are all from the same village, so this is my duty,” Wang Yao said as he put away the silver needles.
“We are all done. Go home and rest. You should have already taken most of the prescription I gave you before. I’ll go and prepare more for you. Ask Brother Zecheng to come and get them when he has the time.”
“Sure.”
The old man left with a smile on his face.
“He is indeed a lot better!” Wang Yao recorded Wang Yilong’s physical recovery on his diagnostic record.
“If this keeps up, he will probably recover within three months!”
The smoothness of this treatment process had gone beyond his imagination. He truly could cure this kind of incurable disease.
Although he had abilities, he would need to rely on his accumulated experience.
If others were to learn that he could treat cancer, it would cause an unknown amount of trouble. If it were some other person who had mastered this skill, they would likely find a way to become famous and profit from it. They would never be like him, living a calm, light and carefree life like an innocent person.
Thousands of miles away in southern Yunnan…
Guo Zhenghe had used all the power he could.
“The issues were caused by the defectors who left the Valley of Thousands of Medicine,” Xu Xinyuan said.
He felt that those people were the most likely suspects.
“Understood, Sir.”
In a common residential building, hundreds of miles away from He County…
A middle-aged man walked to his house carrying a bag of vegetables. He was just about to take out the key when his hand stopped mid-air.

“If I were you, I would not move,” a voice said from behind him.
“It is you.” The man turned around slowly.
“Miao Qingshan.”
“Hello, Brother Qingfeng,” the man with the groceries said.
“Aren’t you going to invite me in for a chat?” Miao Qinfeng asked.
With a click, the door was opened.
“Come in, please.”
“Ah, I have to be careful. You are known in the village for having many clever ideas,” Miao Qingshan said.
“Clever ideas?” The middle-aged man smiled a little. The smile was somewhat bitter.
“What are you doing here?” Miao Qingshan asked.
“I am here to find you, of course.”
“Are you going to kill every one of us?” Miao Qingshan asked as he put down his vegetables.
“Well, the chief wants you to go back to the village to reminisce,” Miao Qingfeng said. “After all, you guys have not seen each other for many years.”
“Haha, we haven’t thought about going back ever since we have escaped from that place,” Miao Qingshan replied. “We already escaped here. Are you guys still not intending to let us go?”
“To be honest, the chief has been thinking about you guys and misses you very much,” Miao Qingfeng said. “He mentioned you guys to me several days ago. I immediately set out from the valley and spent a lot of effort to find you. Your hiding place is hidden well!”
“Are the two old people alright?” Miao Qingshan asked.
“They are fine,” Miao Qingfeng said. “When I told them that I was your relative, they asked me to join them for a cup of tea. The tea didn’t taste very good. Don’t worry. They have just fallen asleep. Nothing will happen to them after they have woken up. Auntie’s body doesn’t seem to be well. She has a heart problem. I just diagnosed and treated her. She should feel the physical changes in her body after she wakes up.”

“You are such a good man!”
“You are flattering me,” Miao Qingfeng said.
“Anyway, it’s time we leave and call the others. I think you should know where they are.”
“Why won’t you let us go?”
“I will be honest with you,” Miao Qingfeng said. “Do you know what happened recently?”
“What has happened?”
“How should I say this? Are you familiar with He County?” Miao Qingfeng asked.
“Yes, I am.”
“Well, more than a dozen people have died there,” Miao Qingfeng said. “Nineteen 19 to be exact.”
“What does that have to do with us?”
“They all died of poisoning. It’s the kind that doesn’t leave a trace and can’t be detected without a professional examination.”
Miao Qingshan’s expression changed.
“So what?”
“Wait, do you suspect us?”
“Yes, we have confirmed that it wasn’t done by people in the valley,” Miao Qingfeng said.
“Did you confirm it or was it Miao Xihe who confirmed it?” Miao Qingshan asked. “He will not tell outsiders what he has done.”
Miao Qingfeng lit a cigarette. “Do you think I am an outsider?”
“We did not do it.”
“Well, that’s hard to say,” Miao Qingfeng said. “I think you guys had better go back and explain it to my master yourselves.”
“We’ll be dead if we go back.”
“That can’t be confirmed,” Miao Qingfeng said. “We are all from the same village. Besides, my master is a nostalgic person. You guys know that.”
“As if!”
“Shall we go?”
Bang! Something suddenly exploded. There was a gust of black smoke.
“I’m sorry,” Miao Qingfeng said.
Puff… Puff… Puff… The sound of wind blowing could be heard.
“This is?!” Miao Qingshan widened his eyes before falling to the ground with a thump.
After the gust of black smoke, Miao Qingfeng walked out.
“Fortunately, I was prepared before I came here. After all these years, you guys haven’t made any progress. Your methods are always like this. You guys have wasted the village’s training and teachings.”
Miao Qingfeng carried the man and went downstairs.
“Oh my God! What’s the matter with him?” In the corridor, he happened to bump into the people who also lived here.
“Ah, gas poisoning.”
“What?”
“I’m sorry. I have to take him to the hospital. I have to hurry up. Please make way.”
“OK.” The couple hurried out of the way and let Miao Qingfeng go first.
After Miao Qingfeng had passed by, the woman asked her husband, “Honey, don’t you think that man looks unfamiliar? Could he be dangerous?”
“Why are you wondering so much about it? Hurry up and go home and cook. I’m hungry!”
“Well, didn’t you read the news lately? The province is under severe attack. They said there is a reward for reporting suspicious things!”
“Hmm.” The man peeked his head out and took a look at the unfamiliar license plate number of the car.
“I hope there will be a reward.” He called the police station. He reported the abnormal situation and unfamiliar license plate number of the car.
As he was driving, Miao Qingfeng heard a police siren and saw a police car coming in his direction.
“Damn it, have I been found out?” He didn’t panic. He stopped the car at the side of the road and carried the man away.
“This is the car!” The police soon arrived and found the abandoned car.
“Are the people in there?”
“Investigate and check the surveillance cameras nearby. I want to know what happened,” a police officer said.
Southern Yunnan was in a state of turmoil. The police officers knew that a major case had just happened in He County, which was not far away. In less than a month, more than a dozen people had died. This alarmed the province and higher-ups. Because of this, the province held a special meeting, asking all regions to immediately carry out a crackdown.

The Anthology
This is my collection of short stories. I ask what stories would my audience like to read and write whatever they post in the comments. I strive for more than two dimensional characters and I like to make my stories somewhat unique. The first six entries are my experiment to just write without stopping and see what comes out. They can serve as an introduction for the reader to me as a thinker and writer. Although it should be known that the majority of those entries were written in a foggy state of mind. Entry seven is where my short stories begin.

The Paths of Magick
Credits: Story by Xcaliburnt. Cover Art by @Bervolart. Magick, the power to bend the laws of reality. All because of a mystical substance known as mana. Mages follow the Paths to achieve power, for there is no more addictive chase. Each Path winds and twists, forcing mages through the flames of adversity and challenge. Though the operative word is "path", the reality is far less straightforward. Instead of a road, Paths are like the branches of world trees, erupting into the heavens, intertwining, and ending in sharp snaps. Only the strongest reach the sky. There are several Paths, and many Ways to walk them—variations of the same Path, and like the stars, they are endless. Magick is the sacred flame that scours the fat, rendering the truest self. Superfluous flesh melting away to show the skeleton of one's being. A chance for ascension—apotheosis. Though not every mage works to godhood, if they survive long enough, It is inescapable. Witness the lives of those that tread the knife's edge of self-destruction. Each one intertwined in their search for answers, revenge, and, most of all: power. These individuals have all lost something precious—irreplaceable—and In search of filling the void left behind, they have taken up the mantle of a mage. Per aspera ad astra. Ad mortem vel divinitatis. (Through adversity to the stars. To death or divinity.) There is no consistent release schedule except my consistent inconsistency. Besides, there’s like a thousand pages worth of content, how can—you already read it? Goddamn. Oh, and there is a very long hiatus between volumes as I intend to edit and rewrite a lot. What to Expect: This story is progression fantasy, so expect a healthy dose of training. It's also heavy on slice of life, and it isn't entirely overarching-plot-driven. Expect characters to live their lives, and not always be on some quest to save the world. There's a lot of magic theory and discussion about it in the story. So, if you don't like impromptu lessons on sorcerous theory by traveling monster slayers, this might not be for you. But if you do like it, rejoice! For there is a lot of it. This is also heavy on prose, purple as a bruised eye. I use outdated, uneccesarily collegiate-level terms and play around with the writing style just for the heck of it. I find it fun to wax and wane poetic, and that might grate on you—I don’t plan to change this aspect of the Paths much if at all. Onto the viewer discretion is advised parts: This is grim-dark/ grim-heart. Take the tags seriously. There will be combat scenes that are brutal and horrifying. Fights to the death tend to be. This is a tale about medieval mercenaries (quite literal killers for hire), man-eating monsters, and eldritch gods beyond the material plane. Beside that, there will be traumatic events that are best left unread. I do not detail certain acts I find heinous enough, instead leaving some parts unwritten but still alludded to if not outright stated; there is simply no graphic narration thereof. This is not for the faint of heart.

Saints and Suffering: A Naruto Fanfiction
Synopsis: Naruto and Sasuke were unable to defeat Kaguya the first time around, and suffer immensely for their failure. They travel back in time to right their wrongs, but struggle with the repercussions of their failure and the unintended consequences of their actions. Author's Note: This is fanfiction, I am a first time author, and I make no claims nor guarantees to quality. I have another story floating around in my head, but I am writing this first in order to practice my skills and gain feedback. Please feel free to give constructive criticism, I will try to read and respond. No guarantees to upload schedule or speed will be made. I work a full time job, and I am not particularly fast at writing, though maybe speed will increase as I become more practiced with my storytelling. This work will essentially be my playground moving forward; I'm going to write about scenarios that tickle my fancy, and the overall story may suffer from it. I will endeavor to keep continuity though. I have an outline that I am working on, and there is an overall arc to the story already. Furthermore, as of the beginning of this novel, my intention with this novel is to explore negative emotions and use my writing as a form of meditation/therapy. When I am sad, I will write sad things, and when I'm happy, the story will be happy. Lastly, there will be religious undertones every once in a while. Hopefully nothing too heavy handed though.
