Chapter 570: Big But Trivial Matters
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
“Here is the medicine,” Wang Yao said. “Take it the same way as before. You could come back after it is used up.”
“OK, good,” the old man happily said. He had a very good attitude.
Wang Zecheng too his father home. After a while, he found an excuse to go out and went back to the clinic.
“Why have you come back?” Wang Yao asked.
“I want to know how my father’s illness is doing,” Wang Zecheng said. He had not dared to ask in front of the old man. He didn’t want to raise any doubt in the old man.
“It’s better than when he came a few days ago,” Wang Yao replied.
“Really?” Wang Zecheng also felt that his father’s looks had improved a lot the past few days.
“Well, that has a lot to do with his emotions,” Wang Yao said.
“It’s good as long as he is better than before.” Wang Zecheng was happy.
“Do you have something else you need?” Wang Yao asked.
“No, no, I am leaving.” Wang Zecheng left with a smile.
The clinic regained its quietness.
Wang Yao’s next task was to prepare medicine for Wang Yilong and Wen Wan. The decoctions required more than just ordinary medicines. He needed licorice roots.
He first thought of Lingshanji because of its special qualities to dissipate evil and evil spirits, regenerate muscles, and relieve pain. Evil and evil spirits simply terms for anything harmful to the human body. The muscles included body tissues. Both patients were also in pain. These roots had an analgesic effect, which could be said to be extraordinary.
The Lingshanji was suitable for both of them, but they still needed other licorice roots. Wen Wan needed her five internal organs adjusted and restored to normal function. Her yin and yang also needed to be balanced.
Wait! Wang Yao thought of the ointment for continuing life. The medicine had never been used since it was successfully boiled down.
The extraordinary drug included Polygonum vine, Aniseed tree root, garland-flower, and Guiyuan. It could be used to make up for the deficiency.
He looked at the dark green ointment in the pillbox, which could be applied externally and internally. The medicine was given to him by the system. The price was also surprisingly high. A dose of drugs cost $3 million.

He thought, If it is not used up in one time, I would not have to charge them, would I?
The system said, “Charge according to quantity,” which surprised Wang Yao. This was the first time he had been given the response.
Lately, the wind had been a bit cold. Wang Yao looked up at the sky and thought, The next few days will be colder!
He had no patients in the afternoon, but he did have an unexpected guest: Wei Hai.
“You haven’t come for some time!” Wang Yao smiled and gave him a cup of tea.
“Hey, there is something going on in Haiqu,” Wei Hai said. “The company is expanding.”
“Didn’t you let it go?” Wang Yao asked.
“I still need to tackle some of the business, but I have handed it over to them,” Wei Hai said. “I have redistributed the company’s shares. It involves you.”
“What?” Wang Yao was shocked. “Are you kidding me?”
“Just kidding.” Wei Hai smiled after seeing Wang Yao’s expression.
“That’s good,” Wang Yao said with relief.
Wei Hai was looking for Tian Yuantu in Lianshan County. When he came back home in the afternoon, he had decided to pop in and chat with Wang Yao. After all, it had been a while since they last met each other.
“I heard that Mr. Sun bought a piece of land in Lianshan County because of you,” Wei Hai said. “I also heard he has invested to build a factory and is preparing to invest in Haiqu.”
Wang Yao just smiled.
“It’s just… He is in trouble now,” Wei Hai said.
“Trouble, what trouble?” Wang Yao asked.
“He was recently named by a big man in the province,” Wei Hai said. “The most taboo thing for business people is to get too close to politicians. He thought he had backing, but it is very likely that he will be affected by the other party’s downfall. Even though the magnitude of his empire is vast, he may have some money troubles.”
“With his financial resources, people in the province can’t investigate him, can they?” Although Wang Yao was in the mountain village dealing with medical situations and herbal medicines day and night, it did not mean that he was like a monk in the wild without any knowledge of something happened outside his realm. He still knew some things, like the situation of the Sun family. As a great wealth empire, it involved a wide scope.

“I don’t know,” Wei Hai said. “After all, it’s just rumors. By the way, do you have anything going on tomorrow?”
“What’s the matter?” Wang Yao asked.
“Ah, it’s just that we haven’t gathered for a while, so I wanted to invite you to Haiqu,” Wei Hai said.
“Invite them, but I can’t go,” Wang Yao said.
“Then, we will plan it another day,” Wei Hai said.
The two chatted until it started to get dark. After Wei Hai left, Wang Yao closed the door and hung up the wooden sign. He had to go to Lianshan County the next day for his sister’s engagement.
In the morning, the sun was shining. Wang Yao awoke early and drove his parents to Lianshan County.
This was first time meeting Du Mingyang’s parents. Both of them looked very kind and healthy. They had good complexions.
Good! Wang Yao thought after he met them. It was said that complexion was a reflection of the heart. Given their complexions, they had to be generous people. This meant that his sister would not be bullied after marrying Du Mingyang. After all, the relationship between mother-in-law and daughter-in-law was an inextricable proposition.
Moreover, they were in good health, which was a symbol of longevity. There were many reasons for longevity, but Wang Yao thought the first one came from good living habits and positive emotions.
The engagement process was actually simple. The parents of the two sides sat together to chat, had dinner, and discussed the marriage of the two children. That was it.
After having lunch, they went to the house Du Mingyang had recently bought to take a look. In fact, his parents had already bought him a house. But, Du Mingyang bought this one because it was in a good and large.
After finishing these matters, Wang Yao drove his parents back to the mountain village.
“She finally got married,” Zhang Xiuying said.
“Mom, fortunately my sister did not hear that. Otherwise I don’t know what she would think about it,” Wang Yao said.
“What could she think about? It was bound to happen sooner and later,” Zhang Xiuying said.
Wang Yao could tell that his parents were very happy.
It almost 3 p.m. when they returned home. After parking the car, he Wang Yao headed to the clinic.
…
In a courtyard in the mountain village, Professor Lu sat on a folding stool to smoke where he could see the distant mountains.
It had been three days since he arrived. He had changed from the tired, anxious, and sleepless man he was on the first day to being completely calm. He seemed to like the quiet mountain village life.
Cough! Cough! Wearing heavy clothes, Wen Wan walked out of the house.
“Why did you come out?” Professor Lu hurried to help her.
“It’s too stuffy to lie on the stone bed,” she replied. “I came out to get some fresh air.”
“Come and sit down.” Professor Lu gave her a chair and sat down against the wall.
The wind was blocked by the courtyard wall. At this time, the sun was shining brightly. It was very comfortable under the sun.
“You can go back. Youren will handle all of the matters here,” Wen Wan said.
“No worries. I asked for leave from the university and notified my family.” Professor Lu put down the cigarette in his hand. “How do you feel?”
“It’s better than the past two days,” Wen Wan said.
“That’s good,” Professor Lu said.
Wen Wan looked at the man sitting beside her she had known for decades. She couldn’t help but think that if one step was taken wrong, all would be wrong. Since meeting each other again, they knew and loved each other. But, they couldn’t be together.
“I am not worthy of all these things you are doing,” Wen Wan said.
“As we are decades older, don’t say such childish and lyrical words.” Professor Lu smiled.
“Where is Youren?”
“He is still young,” Professor Lu said. “He would get bored if he stayed here for long, so I let him go and wander around.”
“It must be hard for him,” Wen Wan said.
“Why is it hard? It is natural and normal to be a good boy of good parents,” Professor Lu said. “You think too much!”
…
In Dali, Han Zhiyu was very anxious. “Doctor, can you give him a further check?”
“Like what I said before, it is a skin disease. He needs hospitalization,” the doctor seriously said.
“It is not a skin disease,” Han Zhiyu said.
“Are you a doctor or am I?” the doctor asked.

Shift (Ben 10+DCU Fanfiction)
Omnitrix+ DCU, what's not to like? The main character will not be Ben Tennyson, rather someone from our world who gains the Omnitrix Hello! This fanfiction Shift is what I wanted to do for an homage to what I thought were underrated pieces of media, Ben 10 and some DCU characters. However, I would be remiss if I didn’t add context to two of the major works that inspired Shift, Dial, and A Practical Guide to Evil. Dial is another ben 10 fanfiction, however that story takes place in the MCU, and with an adult that is already a grown-up at the beginning of the story. Dial, by my own accounts, is more superficially Like shift, even though the Omnitrix is a central device in both. My protagonist starts out around 18 years old, so is less serious and can build relationships with some of the junior justice league members, and then later on in the story meet the Justice League officially. The tone will be more light-hearted at the beginning of the story as teenagers are known to use sarcasm and jokes at each other’s expense. Furthermore, in Dial, the protagonist has a well-developed knowledge of the MCU which he uses to have knowledge on events and characters, that the character in Shift will not have. While the MC will have some knowledge of people's abilities, lesser-known characters and people's real identities will be not included as much, but the MC of Shift will have some knowledge. APGTE's influence is deeper than Dials'. The epigraphs at the beginning of every chapter are an example of that, a place for light-hearted jokes and worldbuilding that's not pure exposition, but I also want to incorporate narrative stories to Shift (heroes win more than lose, providence, etc) on a lighthearted scale. While the heroes of Shift will have to work to win against villains, the MC of Shift will be allowed limited precognition, through narratives tropes and archetypes as a trade-off of less knowledge of the DCU. For example, a villain a hero faces might monologue, but the MC will not instinctively know how to counter every villain they encounter. I also wanted to bring in more realism than usual superhero stories, ie: the MC cannot just walk and have a meeting with Batman or Superman, he would have to “work his way up” in terms of credibility and whatnot. The Aliens that show up in Shift I tried to make different than the ones in Dial, just to share the love for lesser-known characters. And to make it fairer for the villains of the DCU, the main character will not wantonly use if gain at all an Alien X or a ben 10 form of Kryptonians, just so the characters have to work a little bit for victory. I urge anyone reading to consider checking out both APGTE and Dial as they are both amazing works, and I hope you enjoy them. The beginning of how the MC enters the DCU will not be as important as him actually existing in that universe, so that is why a ton of time is not spent on that part of the story. Chapters will be around 2.5 thousand words and come out around every weekday.
