Wang Yao’s family invited Du Mingyang to sleep over. Wang Ru didn’t say anything to object, so Du Mingyang said that he was happy to stay overnight. He slept in Wang Yao’s room since Wang Yao was going to stay on Nanshan Hill.

“Look, Yao, maybe I should go with you to Nanshan Hill,” Du Mingyang said as more of a courtesy.

“No, I’m used to stay on the hill by myself. You stay here,” Wang Yao said.

“It’s very cold outside. You probably should wear more clothes. Isn’t it cold on the hill?” Du Mingyang asked.

“No, I’m fine,” Wang Yao said. He left home wearing a long sleeve T-shirt and down jacket.

Given his fitness, he wouldn’t feel cold even if he was naked. He wore a down jacket so that his parents wouldn’t worry about him.

“He stays on the hill on such a cold night for her herbs?” Du Mingyang asked. “Those herbs must be very valuable.”

The next morning, Wang Yao received a call from his mother right after he had finished breathing exercises. His mother asked him to have breakfast at home. As he arrived home, he saw Du Mingyang busy setting up the table.

“Morning, Yao, You are back,” Du Mingyang said pleasantly.

“You seem to be part of the family now,” Wang Yao said.

“Will you have a lot of patients today?” Wang Ru asked during breakfast.

“It’s hard to say. But, today is a weekend day. I suppose a lot of people will come to the clinic,” Wang Yao said. Based on his previous experience, he had more patients during the weekend.

“I see. You see your patients first,” Wang Ru said.

“Do you need me?” Wang Yao asked.

“No,” Wang Ru said.

Wang Yao went to the clinic after breakfast. As he had expected, some patients had already been waiting outside.

Wang Ru helped her parents tidy up the house. Du Mingyang also helped with house chores and cleaned the kitchen.

“Mom, Dad, I’m going out with Mingyang,” Wang Ru said.

“OK,” Zhang Xiuying said.

They headed south toward Wang Yao’s clinic. They saw four cars and several motorbikes parked outside Wang Yao’s clinic. People were going in and out of the clinic.

“Hey, are they all here to see your brother?” Du Mingyang asked.

“Yes,” Wang Ru replied.

“Yao is doing really well,” Du Mingyang said. It was just past 9 a.m.. All the patients came by car, which meant they left their homes at about 8 a.m. It was a bit unusual for so many people to come to see a doctor in such an isolated village.

“Let’s go, I’ll take you to Nanshan Hill,” Wang Ru said.

“You don’t need to tell Yao before we go?” Du Mingyang asked.

“No,” Wang Ru said confidently.

They followed the path to go up to Nanshan Hill. The wind on the hill was freezing. It hurt when the wind blew on their faces. It was as if their faces were pricked by needles.

Both sides of the road were full of dropped leaves and weeds, which looked lifeless.

“This hill looks boring,” Du Mingyang said.

He didn’t get it why his future brother-in-law liked to spend every night on this cold and deserted hill. He doubted if there was any treasure buried on this hill.

“Hmm.” Wang Ru didn’t say much.

Du Mingyang suddenly stopped after they had passed a small hill.

Not far away, he saw a hill covered by green trees and plants, which was significantly different from the hills around it. Everywhere else was dark and yellow.

“Yes, let’s go,” Wang Ru said.

Wang Yao had blocked the entrance to the herbal field and set off the battle array. Wang Ru had been to the herbal field several times, but she still couldn’t find the entrance. She became dizzy due to the moving trees.

When they passed the clinic again, they found there were more cars parked outside. The cars they saw earlier had already left. Different cars were parked outside the clinic, including two luxurious vehicles.

There were not many patients in the afternoon, just two elderly people. They came with their children. Their conditions were not serious. Wang Yao provided them massage therapy.

“Will you go back tonight?” Zhang Xiuying asked Du Mingyang.

“Yes,” Du Mingyang said.

“Would you like to stay for one more night?” Although Wang Ru and Du Mingyang came home every week, Zhang Xiuying wanted to keep her future son-in-law at her house as long as possible.
