Chapter 415: A Formula Containing a Big Variety of High Quality Herbs
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
There were a lot of things that needed to be considered when going to see a patient in the hospital. Normally people visited the hospital in the morning. The patients typically didn’t like to be visited in the afternoon, because it was unlucky.
“Oh, it’s afternoon now.” Li Maoshuang had realized the time. “Maybe we should go on a different day?”
“Okay, how about tomorrow? I’ll come by in the morning,” said Wang Yao.
“Good idea, thanks,” said Li Maoshuang.
He walked Wang Yao out of the herb store.
Wang Yao drove back home. He stayed there for a little while after dinner. Then he went back to Nanshan Hill.
A spot of light was visible on the dark hill.
Wang Yao was thinking of the treatment methods for cancer in his cottage.
He need special herbs, not common ones. After all, he was going to treat cancer, one of the worst conditions a person could get.
All cancer patients were weak, so they needed to improve their immune system. For them, recovering from cancer was a big fight. During the process of fighting with cancer, the chances of winning would be higher if the person’s immune system was strong.
A healthy person often didn’t need to take an injection or a lot of medication to recover from a flu or fever. However, a weaker person would require not only medication but also injections to recover from a minor illness. It would also be a much longer process to recover. Therefore, it was important to consolidate one’s corporeity when fighting with diseases.
The Regather soup was the best choice to consolidate one’s corporeity. However, it was not a cheap formula.
Wang Yao needed to consider killing the cancer cells at the same time.
He thought about Cizhan, which could resolve heat toxin and remove tumors.
Cizhan was a licorice root, which could be used to treat cancer. It could act as the leading herb of a formula.
The second herb Wang Yao thought about was pear grass, which could kill ulcers.
In Chinese Medicine, ulcers and cancer were the same thing.
The third one he considered was everlasting grass, which could reconcile the organs and repair the damage.
He could also use everlasting grass as it was a fantastic herb in order to boost one’s immune system.
The fourth herb he thought about was Guiyuan, which could combine the effect of all the herbs in one formula together.
He had to add Guiyuan in the prescription.
The fifth herb he thought about was ganoderma, which could improve the immune system to fight cancer. The nature of ganoderma was mild, so it was suitable for weak patients.
Wang Yao was thinking of the combination of the formula.
Without realizing it, Wang Yao had added a number of licorice roots in the formula.
“Wow!” Wang Yao had a close look. “This formula is close to Prolongation pill.”
Of course, it was just an idea at this stage. He still had barriers to overcome. First of all, he couldn’t afford to buy so many different licorice roots at this stage. Second, he wouldn’t know how effective the formula was even if he had all those required herbs. He needed to test it first, not just speculate.

Wang Yao wrote down the formula on a piece of paper.
Let me get some of the herbs first.
As he had been thinking of the formula for a long time, it was the middle of the night by the time he went to sleep.
He got up early the next morning to practice Chinese boxing on the top of the hill. He walked around the hill before going back home for breakfast. Then, he drove to Li Maoshuang’s store at Lianshan town center.
“Morning! Have you had breakfast yet?” asked Li Maoshuang as he saw Wang Yao walking into the store.
“Yeah,” said Wang Yao.
“Shall we go to the hospital now?” asked Li Maoshuang.
“Okay,” said Wang Yao.
He drove Li Maoshuang to the hospital.
“Are you very close to your uncle?” asked Wang Yao.
“Yeah, he’s always very nice to me,” said Li Maoshuang. “He has treated me well since I was a little boy. He always has me on his mind. He helped me a lot with my wedding and supported me through the first few years of my married life. You know, I was quite poor at that time.”
“I see,” said Wang Yao.
No wonder Li Maoshuang was upset about his uncle’s illness, he felt he owed his uncle a lot.
“I will always remember his assistance and support to my family,” said Li Maoshuang.
Soon they had arrived at the town hospital.
Wang Yao met Li Maoshuang’s uncle in the hospital room, who was a skinny little old man. He looked very weak. His breathing was shallow and his eyes were unfocused.
He was sweating, even in this air-conditioned room.
His sweat was oily, indicating that he was in critical condition.
Wang Yao was shocked.
No!
He’s fading away!
“Your uncle is in extremely critical condition. He could die at any moment,” said Wang Yao.
“What!” said Li Maoshuang in shock.
“Excuse me.” Wang Yao took out a nine-herbs pill from the system’s cabinet and gave it to Li Maoshuang’s uncle to take. Then he immediately gave Li Maoshuang’s uncle a massage and transferred Qi to protect the old man’s organs, especially his heart.
Wang Yao acted so fast that Li Maoshuang couldn’t even see clearly what Wang Yao had done.
The old man’s condition became a little more stable once he had taken the pill and received Qi from Wang Yao.
Wow, that was close!
Wang Yao breathed a big sigh of relief.
This old man’s condition was too critical to stay in this small-town hospital.
“Hi, Maoshuang, who is this?” Li Maoshuang’s wife and son came to the hospital.
“Hi, he’s Dr. Wang, who I’ve mentioned to you before,” said Li Maoshuang.
“Hello, Dr. Wang,” said Li Maoshuang’s wife and son.
“Hello,” said Wang Yao.
“The treating doctor who came to see Dad suggested this morning that we should take Dad home. There is not point to continue to stay here. The doctors can’t do anything more to save him,” said Li Maoshuang’s cousin.
“What?” Li Maoshuang turned his head to look at Wang Yao. “What do you think?”
“Shall we talk outside?” suggested Wang Yao.

Li Maoshuang and his cousin followed Wang Yao out of the room.
“To be honest, your uncle’s condition is very critical,” said Wang Yao.
“We know,” said Li Maoshuang’s cousin sadly. He knew clearly about his father’s condition. His father couldn’t be cured with the current medical technology. He would only suffer for staying alive.
“Look, I’ve asked Dr. Wang to treat Uncle,” said Li Maoshuang.
“Can you cure him?!” asked Li Maoshuang’s cousin with surprise.
“I can only try. After all, he’s got cancer,” said Wang Yao calmly.
“Okay, thank you, as long as you can make him feel better,” said Li Maoshuang’s cousin.
“Do you want to treat my uncle in the hospital?” asked Li Maoshuang.
“I don’t mind. I’ll leave it to you guys to decide,” said Wang Yao.
“I think Uncle should stay in the hospital for now,” said Li Maoshuang.
“That’s fine, but I will need to give him decoctions to take,” said Wang Yao.
“Okay,” said Li Maoshuang.
Wang Yao didn’t stay in the hospital for long. The old man’s condition was extremely critical at the moment. Wang Yao thought that it was better to bring the old man back to his home, because he would have less distractions if he treated the old man at his own house. After all, there were rules and restrictions in the hospital. However, the old man’s family had a different idea.
Let me try to treat him in the hospital first, thought Wang Yao.
“Can you help me gather these herbs? This is the formula.” Wang Yao gave Li Maoshuang the formula containing common herbs. The formula was to strengthen the old man’s corporeity. Then Wang Yao returned to his village. He parked the car outside his house, then rushed to Nanshan Hill.
He took a look at the pear grass in his herbal field. It had started to form into shape. Although it hadn’t fully grown, he could use it now.
Cizhan had just started to sprout. It was just a small bud. It would be too wasting to use the bud.
He had ganoderma available.
However, he didn’t have everlasting grass and Guiyuan.
Hmmm…
Wang Yao opened the control panel of the system to have a good look.
No, I don’t have enough bonus points.
I should sell some herbs.
He sold some of the fully-grown herbs to the system to buy Guiyuan, which could combine the effect of all the herbs together. Guiyuan was a must buy. As for everlasting grass, he would have to skip it this time.
However, Wang Yao was too distracted to realize that he had used a lot of licorice roots in one formula. This formula would cost a lot. The patient probably couldn’t afford it.
Wait!
After Wang Yao had all the herbs ready except for everlasting grass, he suddenly thought about the ganodermalucidum he planted a while ago.
That’s good stuff!
He walked to the place where he planted the ganodermalucidum, then started to dig.
“What is this?!” Wang Yao exclaimed.
He found the ganodermalucidum has been growing.
Great it’s growing!
Not only it had grown, it also changed color. Initially the ganodermalucidum was almost completely white with a little bit of yellow flecks on it. Now it was much yellower.
How did this happen?
Ganodermalucidum was a wonderful herb, which had a lot of different effects. It could be used to treat cancer. It could adjust the immune system to stop the tumors growing. The most important thing was that it was not harmful to the body.
“I can add some ganodermalucidum as well,” said Wang Yao.
He picked a small proportion of ganodermalucidum, tore it up, and some yellowish fluid came out of it.
Is it in pain?
Some people reckoned that the ganodermalucidum was the origin of animals and human beings.
Wang Yao was so busy working on the hill, he lost track of time. It was afternoon when he had finished working.
Well, let’s call it a day. I’ll brew the decoction tomorrow.
He tidied up his room before leaving Nanshan Hill late afternoon.
When he had arrived at home, there was a visitor waiting for him.
“Hi, Yao, you are back!”
It was the middle-aged woman who went to see Wang Yao a few days ago. She had bloating, acid reflux, and some burning sensation in her stomach. Wang Yao gave her some herbs.
“Hello, Ma’am,” said Wang Yao.
“Your Auntie Qian has been waiting for you for a while,” said Zhang Xiuying.
“Oh, I just came back from the hill, how can I help you?” asked Wang Yao.
“Still the same old problem, I didn’t get better after taking the herbs you gave me,” said the middle-aged woman.
“Didn’t get any better?” Wang Yao was surprised.
That’s not possible. Her condition is not tricky. She doesn’t even need to take the whole course. She should get better after two to three days. How come the herbs didn’t work?
“Let me take a look at you,” said Wang Yao.
“Okay,” said the middle-aged woman.
Wang Yao gave the woman a thorough check.
“Ma’am, have you had a few fish lately?” asked Wang Yao calmly.
“Yes, but just a little bit. Fish is my favorite food,” said the middle-aged woman.
“Well, I’ve told you that you have to stop eating fish,” said Wang Yao.
A lot of people don’t take a doctor’s advice seriously.
“Can you give me more herbs?” asked the middle-aged woman.
“I don’t think it is necessary,” said Wang Yao coldly.
“Why?” asked the middle-aged woman with surprise.
“You won’t get better if you don’t stop eating what you are not supposed to eat,” said Wang Yao. It was not very polite to say it like that, but he was telling the truth.
“Be nice, Yao.” Zhang Xiuying prompted her son.
The middle-aged woman looked awkward. Actually, she had gotten better after taking Wang Yao’s herbs for two days. She could feel all her symptoms had reduced. As soon as she felt better, she started to eat fish again. Then she got worse and ran out of herbs. Therefore, she came to Wang Yao to ask for more herbs.
