Chapter 349: Being Weird Was Also an Illness
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
“Take off your clothes.” Wang Yao suddenly thought about something: to be precise, an alternative treatment plan.
Sun Yunsheng took off his clothes. He was very skinny.
Wang Yao felt the acupuncture points on Sun Yunsheng’s back with his hand.
No wonder!
He found some acupuncture points on Sun Yunsheng’s back were also releasing heat energy.
The meridians on his back were much thicker than the ones in his arms, and several major meridians went through his back. Compared to the meridians in his arms, which were like small creeks, the meridians in the back were like a big river.
It should work better from here, thought Wang Yao.
“Let me try again. Let me know if you feel uncomfortable,” said Wang Yao.
“Okay,” said Sun Yunsheng.
Wang Yao place his right palm in the middle of Sun Yunsheng’s back.
He gathered his Qi in his right hand, and absorbed the excessive heat from Sun Yunsheng’s body through his palm. Suddenly the flow of heat entered Wang Yao’s palm, then went towards his wrist. At the same time, the heat energy was offset by Wang Yao’s own Qi. The heat energy was stronger because it was from Sun Yunsheng’s back, but it didn’t pass over Wang Yao’s wrist due to his pure and profound Qi.
A number of major meridians went through the trunk.
The way Wang Yao absorbed heat from Sun Yunsheng’s body was like the Magic Power of Beiming that Qi Gong described in the Kung Fu novel. Sun Yunsheng’s excessive heat energy quickly gathered in Wang Yao’s hand, which was like a magnet. The heat energy was like a group of shark smelling the blood, swimming towards Wang Yao’s hand.
Soon Sun Yunsheng’s back started to turn red, as if his skin was imprinted by iron. Initially only part of the skin turned red, then it started to expand. In half an hour, Sun Yunsheng’s whole back was red, as if he was on fire.
Huh! Huh! Sun Yunsheng’s became short of breath. His body was shaking slightly.
Done!
Wang Yao stopped immediately. He couldn’t continue.
He could tell Sun Yunsheng’s body was responding to Wang Yao’s attempt to absorb the Yang energy out of his body. He was short of breath, his heart rate had increased, and his body was shaking slightly. All of those signs indicated that Sun Yunsheng was in pain.
“Take a break,” said Wang Yao.
“Okay.” Sun Yunsheng let out a big sigh.
He felt his back was burning hot, as if he was placed on a barbecue. He was very thirsty and a bit dizzy. He felt weak and just wanted to go to sleep.
He laid down to rest for a while, then drank some water.
“Now, please sit up and try not to move,” said Wang Yao.
He placed his left hand on Sun Yunsheng’s back this time to transfer his Qi into Sun Yunsheng’s body. He gathered his profound Qi into his left hand, then transferred it into Sun Yunsheng’s body following the meridians on his back. Wang Yao didn’t give Sun Yunsheng a large amount of Qi, as he was concerned that Sun Yunsheng might not be able to bear it.

This time, Sun Yunsheng had a totally different feeling than previously. The burning feeling on his back was fading quickly. It was replaced by a cool feeling, as if Wang Yao was filling his body with cool spring water.
This was the significance of Wang Yao’s Qi, which was a result of months of practice.
Wang Yao’s Qi could be strong or soft, and it could be full of either Yin or Yang energy.
It depended on Wang Yao as well as the patient’s condition.
Qi was actually the purest and most profound energy of human body. It had no shape, but could cure an illness and restore health in no time.
So relaxing!
Sun Yunsheng showed a relaxed facial expression.
“Do you feel better?” asked Wang Yao.
“Much better,” said Sun Yunsheng.
The painful feeling had gone completely. Sun Yunsheng also felt stronger.
He wouldn’t feel too different right away. However, he would feel much better two or three days later. His pain and discomfort would reduce obviously a few days after that, because Wang Yao had taken a considerable amount of Yang energy from his body.
“Let’s call it a day. Make sure you have enough rest. Come to my clinic after seven days,” said Wang Yao.
“Okay, thank you,” said Sun Zhengrong.
Wang Yao opened Sun Zhengrong’s eyes today. Sun Zhengrong had never seen or even heard of this kind of treatment method. Wang Yao surprised him again.
“Today’s treatment…” said Wang Yao.
“Will be kept as a secret. Don’t worry, I know.” Sun Zhengrong got what Wang Yao meant right away. Actually, even if he told other people about it, no one would believe him, because it was beyond belief.
After the treatment, Wang Yao and Tong Wei left for Tong Wei’s place.
“What happened to that Sun Yunsheng?” asked Tong Wei curiously after they had arrived at Tong Wei’s place.
“He has excessive Yang energy inside his body,” said Wang Yao.
“Excessive Yang energy?” said Tong Wei with surprise. This was the first time she had ever heard of it.
“Yes, according to the Chinese Traditional Medicine theory, a healthy body requires balanced Ying and Yang. Either excessive Yang or Yin energy will cause severe health problems. Sun Yunsheng is an example. He had 90% of Yang and only 10% of Yin inside his body,” said Wang Yao.
“So his body dominated by Yang?” said Tong Wei.
“Excessive Yang energy is a disease. If a human body was a tree, Sun Yunsheng’s body was actually on fire. I had to extinguish the fire, otherwise he would burn to death,” said Wang Yao.
“Is it that serious?” asked Tong Wei. “What caused it?”
“As for the cause, I think it was due to toxins inside his body,” said Wang Yao.
“Toxin?” asked Tong Wei.
“Yes, that should be the original cause,” said Wang Yao.
“And you have internal power that can help him?” asked Tong Wei curiously. After all, such things only existed in novels and movies.
“Yes,” said Wang Yao.
“What actually is internal power?” asked Tong Wei.

“You can consider it a Taoist’s way to keep healthy,” said Wang Yao.
“Well, can you show me?” asked Tong Wei.
“Er…” Wang Yao looked around. He didn’t know how to demonstrate his internal power to Tong Wei.
Right!
“Give me your hand,” said Wang Yao.
“Okay.” Tong Wei gave Wang Yao her left hand.
“Here we go.” Wang Yao placed his left palm on Tong Wei’s left palm.
He started to gather his Qi to his left hand, then transferred his Qi to Tong Wei.
Tong Wei could feel something came into her hand through Wang Yao’s hand. It was like some sort of energy, which followed her wrist and went all the way into her body. She could feel herself at ease almost immediately.
It was not a delusion because of the skin contact.
Wonderful!
Her eyes were shining.
“This is the internal power,” said Wang Yao with a smile.
“Can you teach me?” asked Tong Wei.
“Yes. But it is boring to learn,” said Wang Yao.
“Never mind that, I want to learn.” Tong Wei looked like a naive little girl.
Wang Yao smiled.
They went to bed after talking for a short while.
“Good night,” said Wang Yao.
“Good night,” said Tong Wei.
Wang Yao gave Tong Wei a big hug, then kissed her face.
Tong Wei’s face turned red, like a ripened apple, and so attractive.
They went up very early the next morning. Wang Yao taught Tong Wei the basic breathing method. It sounded simple, but it was the core of the internal power. Many people who wanted to learn couldn’t find a teacher. They didn’t know the essence of it.
“Please don’t tell anyone about this,” said Wang Yao.
“I know.” Tong Wei nodded.
Although the breathing method was just one of the basic methods to induce Qi, it was considered very precious. One shouldn’t pass it onto anyone.
One required Qi to do breathing exercise. It was so called producing Qi. Once the Qi had existed, one could start to induce it.
Even the first step was extremely difficult to grasp.
It helped the person to get his or foot into the door. If the person couldn’t produce Qi, he or she wouldn’t be able to do breathing exercise.
Wang Yao was different to most people. He had Taoism Classics, and the peaceful environment on Nanshan Hill helped him practice. He initially read Taoism Classics day and night to learn and understand Taoism. Later on, he obtained the book Quan Jing from Zhou Xiong’s family while he was in Cangzhou. He practiced both breathing methods and Chinese boxing, so his Qi was pure and profound. Other people had minimal chance to achieve what Wang Yao had achieved. Opportunities of time (vouchsafed by) Heaven, advantages of situation (afforded by) the Earth, and (the union arising from) the accord of Men were all required.
Tong Wei did what Wang Yao told her to do for a while. She felt awkward.
“Don’t rush, you can’t make it by rushing through it,” explained Wang Yao.
Seeking quick success and instant benefits was not allowed when doing breathing exercises.
Wang Yao and Tong Wei went to a shopping center nearby to do some grocery shopping. They bought some health supplements for elderly people. They decided to buy double so both of their parents could have some. They went home after they had finished shopping.
It was a long distance to travel from Dao City to Lianshan town center, but the route was straight-forward, at least. Wang Yao and Tong Wei arrived in Lianshan in the afternoon. They went to a restaurant to have a quick lunch, then Wang Yao drove Tong Wei home.
Tong Wei’s parents were at home. They were happy to see their daughter. They were also glad to see Wang Yao, and insisted that Wang Yao should stay for evening dinner.
“Just stay,” said Tong Wei.
“Okay,” said Wang Yao.
Tong Wei’s parents were busy preparing evening dinner. They asked Tong Wei to take Wang Yao out of a walk.
It was cool in autumn, the best time to have a walk outside. Tong Wei and Wang Yao were chatting while taking a walk. Half an hour later, Tong Wei received a call from his mother, saying one of Tong Wei’s colleagues came to visit her.
“Colleague?” Tong Wei said with surprise.
Wang Yao was also surprised.
It was Wu Yaoran!
This annoying guy even chased after Tong Wei to her home, and was having a pleasant chat with her parents. There was a big pack of health supplements on the table.
“Hello, Tong Wei,” said Wu Yaoran with a smile after meeting Tong Wei and Wang Yao.
“What are you doing here?” said Tong Wei angrily.
“Why shouldn’t I be here? I just come to visit your parents,” said Wu Yaoran naturally.
Damn!
Tong Wei suddenly had a headache. She didn’t know why she would come across such an annoying person.
Meanwhile, Wang Yao secretly moved his finger.
“Hello, Mr. Wu,” said Wang Yao.
“Hello, you don’t need to call me Mr. Wu. We are at similar age, just call me Yaoran,” said Wu Yaoran.
“Well, I think you should probably go to the hospital,” said Wang Yao.
“What? Are you ill?” Tong Wei’s mother happened to hear what Wang Yao said. “You need to go to the hospital if you are ill.”
“No, I’m fine. I’m completely fine. I just had a check-up in a well-known hospital in Paris,” said Wu Yaoran confidently.
“Really? Then they didn’t do a proper job!” said Wang Yao seriously.
“You don’t feel pain here?” Wang Yao got closer to him and pointed to his lower back.
“Ouch!” Wu Yaoran’s body was suddenly spasming, as if he had an electric shock.
“What are you doing?” shouted Wu Yaoran.
However, Wang Yao didn’t seem to do anything when Wu Yaoran turned around and looked at him.

The Oresteia (Modernized)
All three of the great Greek Tragedians have written plays about the bloody chain of murder and revenge within the royal family of Argos. Yet theirs is in fact not a story of tragedy, but rather one of redemption. As they move from darkness to light, from rage to self-governance, from primitive ritual to civilized institution, their spirit of struggle and regeneration becomes an everlasting song of celebration to be heard throughout the ages. Forming a discourse set against the emergence of Athenian democracy out of a period of chaos and destruction, the Orestian plays are compelling stories of the tensions between our obligations to our families and the laws that bind us together as a society. In the beginning, we witness how a king’s decision to sacrifice his daughter and turn the tide of war inflicts lasting damage on his family, culminating in a terrible act of retribution. In the aftermath of regicide, we behold how a son must set out to avenge his father’s death by committing a most egregious sin. In the end, the sinner is tormented by supernatural powers that can never be appeased, but ultimately finds redemption and ends the curse on his house once and for all. Woven through all of this is the story of a friendship so close that it elevates itself to brotherhood - Where the blood of the covenant is shown to be indeed thicker than the water of the womb. In this very brief twelve-chapter modern rendition of the Orestian plays, I have chosen to place my focus mainly on the lives of the characters Orestes and his best friend Pylades. The chapters, each around 2000-2500 words, are split up evenly between them in first-person narrative. I hope that you will come to enjoy reading this heartwarming story, but more importantly, that you see how the conflicts portrayed in the story, whether human or institutional, are still much very relevant to our societies today. Note on Sources: The details of this story is very loosely based on The Oresteia by Aeschylus. And I mean very loosely. Other sources that I referenced for detail and inspiration are Mythology by Edith Hamilton, Electra by Sophocles, and Iphigenia in Tauris by Euripides. You may also find that I have quoted some of these works, and others (such as Shelley's Ozymondaeus), without citations (average of 1-2 such quotes per chapter). I did this because I do not have the ability to describe certain scenes nearly as well as some of those writers. If you read a particularly beautiful piece of prose here, chances are it's probably stolen lol. Also, I wrote this during the summer between my high school senior year and my college freshmen year. It was the summer of 2020, and being quarantined apparently gets my creative side out lol.
