Chapter 240: Nanshan Hill Was Burnt
Translator: Nyoi-Bo Studio Editor: Nyoi-Bo Studio
No one but himself knew why he went to Wang Yao’s house with such an attitude.
In fact, just today, he also went to the town government. He was just a little later than Wang Yao, but he did not go in. From the outside, he saw that there were higher-up leaders inside and saw the friendly conversation between Secretary Yang and Wang Yao.
He was 47 years old this year. He was a soldier for 12 years and a party secretary of the county for eight years.
He was very clear of some things.
A Municipal Party Secretary would not talk to a young person like that without any purpose. The attitude was too kind, moreover it was in public.
One possibility was the biggest. The young man who normally did not show off anything in the village and the Municipal Party Secretary, who had the highest discourse power in the city knew each other. Furthermore, they were very familiar with each other.
With such a strong backing, there was no need to be hesitant at all on how to handle some things.
Of course, he would not say these things.
After staying at home for a while, Wang Yao went out and walked towards Nanshan Hill. In the south side of the village, the courtyard was still barren, but the two hibiscus trees by the door were very luxuriant.
“They’re growing quite well.”
Wang Yao carried two large boxes of medicine herbs up Nanshan Hill.
In the morning the next day, a notice was posted in the small mountain village. The abandoned houses and courtyard in the south side of the village were sold to Wang Yao at a price of 150 thousand. Of course, he was only sold the right to use them.
In an instant, there was a lot of discussion in the small mountain village.
“Damn, 150 thousand. It’s so expensive. The kid in Fenghua’s family is not silly, right?”
“You’re the one who’s silly. The price is already very cheap. Do you know how much the property in Lianshan County is now?”
“That’s Lianshan County, not our small mountain village. Who would come here from the city? All the young people in the village earn money to buy houses in the city. How many of them come back to stay?”
“Screw Wang Jianli, this bastard!”
This matter was nothing more than a topic to chat about after meals in the small mountain village and there was not much freshness. It would not take long for people to stop caring about this matter.

In the morning, Wang Yao came down from the mountain and stopped outside the huge courtyard.
“This place will be mine.”
He went to the county committee to go through the formalities and the money was credited into the account this morning. It would take a while to obtain the land use permit, but Wang Jianli said that the houses were now his and he could handle it himself.
The houses were as if they collapsed. Obviously, the houses could not be lived in. Wang Yao had no plans to renovate, but he wanted to rebuild. Of course, he had to plan well before this.
He was not capable in this regard. After all, his profession did not match.
Both biology and medicine were poles apart from architecture.
However, the people he knew could do it, such as Tian Yuantu. He had one of the best construction teams in the whole Lianshan County. Designing a small courtyard and a few houses should not be a problem.
“I don’t know how his things are going in Jing City.”
In the morning, Wang Mingbao came back from the county town and dropped in Wang Yao’s house.
“Has the matter of the land been settled?”
“It’s been settled.”
“Okay.”
Above Nanshan Hill, the body felt a bit lazy with the mountain wind blowing against it.
It was already June and the weather was hot.
A person came to Wang Yao’s herbal field.
“Are you there, Xiao Yao?”
He shouted at the herbal field but did not hear any reply. Wang Yao had already gone down the mountain. There would not be other people inside.
“He’s not in!”
The middle-aged man looked around. It was very quiet on the mountain and there were no other people. Wang Yao had already bought this mountain. There was no heaven and earth around. Moreover, this mountain originally had a lot of mountain stones and was not suitable for planting crops.
He took out something from his hand.
“Who told you to snatch the land from me!” A fierce look appeared in his eyes.
A fire started burning.
Ow. He suddenly heard a low howling sound.
“What’s that sound?” He lifted his head and saw a fury dog. The dog had a slightly bigger build, with his pair of eyes staring at him like a hungry wolf.
“Get lost!”
He took out a knife from his waist.
He held a lighter in one hand and a knife in the other. On the one hand, he wanted to set fire and on the other hand, he had to be wary of the dog which might fly at him anytime.

The mountain wind was a bit strong. The flame which just appeared on the lighter was quickly blown out.
“Fortunately, I’m prepared.”
He still had some petrol with him.
Ow, a shadow sprung out from the herbal field behind the trees.
Ah! There was a scream.
Poof! A fire started burning.
Covering his arms by himself, he bolted down from the mountain. Behind him was a dog with blood on its mouth and abdomen. One was a human’s blood, another was a blood wound at the abdomen which was stabbed, with fresh blood running.
Ga, a hawk whistled in the sky.
Then, a goshawk descended from the sky, fiercely clawing on the shoulders of the person running with its pair of iron claws. The sharp claws pierced through his blood and flesh, directly breaking open a few blood wounds on his shoulder.
Ouch! The man screamed in pain and beat wildly, trying to get rid of the raptors that suddenly attacked from the sky. However, in return, he had a body full of wounds. A blood wound was also pecked open by the goshawk on his head.
Go away!
At this time, people who came down from the mountain saw the situation and rushed forward, using the hoe in their hands to chase the goshawk and dog away.
Ow!
The dog still made an angry, low growling sound. At this time, it was really like a wolf. Even if it was deeply hurt, it wanted to kill the invader. The goshawk was still hovering in the sky.
On Nanshan Hill, the fire was escalating. However, when it was near the outer side of the woods, it seemed to be blocked by an invisible barrier. All of a sudden, it did not move forward, but was spreading to both sides.
Oh no, the mountain was on fire!
Mountain fire was a terrible thing, because once it burned, it could likely burn the entire mountain.
“That’s Nanshan Hill!”
“The mountain that Wang Yao bought!”
There were just that many people in the village who were regularly met. Among them, no matter who had a problem, they would still help out most of the time. Hence, someone made a phone call to Wang Yao’s house. The people nearby on the mountain began to rush up towards Nanshan Hill.
“What? The mountain is on fire?”
After hearing the news, Wang Yao suddenly darted out and rushed towards Nanshan Hill with his fastest speed, just like a leopard.
Nanshan Hill was in sight from far away. There was indeed a flare on the mountain.
The herbal field!
Anxious, he sped up more.
Neixi flowed like Dajiang heading east. A step became a few meters in an instant. The mountain stones were broken into pieces on where the ground was stepped on.
From his home to the mountain, he did not stop. When he reached the mountain, he saw the flames that were being controlled, a few busy people and the dog which fur had been burnt and had bloodstains on its body.
Thank goodness!
His anxious heart was relieved. The mountain fire was blocked outside the formation.
Wang Yao immediately pulled out a water pipe from the hut. There was a water pump by the barrage not far away. He used it to cultivate the herbal field previously. He had not used it for quite some time but fortunately, it was still considered useful. The water was pumped up and the mountain fire was put out quickly.
“Xiao Yao, did the fire burn anything?” This time, Wang Fengming was the one who took the lead to come up to the mountain to combat the fire instead.
“No worries, it had not burned the inside. Thank you.” Wang Yao expressed his gratitude towards these elders.
“Well, we’re from the same village. There’s no need to thank.”
A few people went down the mountain and Wang Fengming stayed.
“Uncle Fengming, do you have something to say?” Wang Yao leaned down his body and examined the dog’s body while talking. He discovered that the dog had a blood wound in its abdomen. Fortunately, it was not very deep. The blood was still flowing. He was only relieved after making sure that the dog’s life was not in danger.
“Xiao Yao, someone set this mountain on fire.”
“Who’s the one committing arson?!” Wang Yao squinted his eyes.
“When I came up the mountain, I saw a person who was covered in blood went down the mountain. He looked like he was bitten by the dog.”
Oh?
“Why did I not see him if he went down the mountain?” Wang Yao was taken aback by a little after listening.
“Uncle, have you seen who it is?”
“I did not see clearly too, but it looked like Wang Jianye to me.” Wang Fengming said, “You have to be careful.”
“I know very well, Uncle.”
Wang Fengming went down the mountain as well after saying a few more words.
“Wang Jianye. Could it be that he hates me because of the matter of the houses and the small courtyard, and then set the mountain on fire?”

They have to become Professionals on their own and rejoin the Empire. They will figure out their new lives one way or another. But will there be an Empire waiting for them when the Gates re-open? Caught in a clash of empires and high tiers, they will do what little they can. They will step up and do their best. One way or another. The Infinite Labyrinth is a slice-of-life litRPG adventure set in a real historical setting. It's a hard, crunchy litrpg. Expect blue boxes everywhere, and the system itself is very mathy. It started life as a serial. I prepared some proper worldbuilding, with enough details and background for lots of different potential story arcs, but as I wrote, I realized the main story needs to have a definitive end. So, there are four books in total, for a bit under 1500 pages, plus additional side stories, and even maybe a sequel one day. The Gore tag was added as a precaution because there are a few scenes with some light gore.

I am an RR addict and amateur writer (in French) and today I decided to publish a story. You will have my eternal gratitude for any advice or constructive comments on the story! One of my objectives is to have developed characters, duo or trio make a fantastic way to character growth. So, I will try to create a deep relationship between a few of them. The first few chapters have a lot of combat, but other characters will soon arrive. Those first few chapters are made to build tension and create Litchi's first motivations. This story has the plot written to the end and important characters already shaped. This story is short in comparison to the majority of RR fantasy stories. Update every two days until I have no more chapters in my pocket. Average chapter length: 2200 words Warning: The grammar can be bad, IMPORTANT CHARACTERS CAN (Will) DIE, contain philosophical conversation as the characters stumble upon morals dilemmas.
