Chapter 497: Myriad Poison Swamp

Zhang Che had no idea that he was already being targeted by the evil cult, let alone that they had set up an elaborate trap for him in Yuanshan City.
At present, he was flying on the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon together with the elemental queen, quickly venturing into the depths of the beast world. An hour into their flight, they were close to reaching their destination.
In front of them, mountains had stopped showing up, and the terrain had flattened out.
“Myriad Poison Swamp… this stupid place’s name is pretty terrifying, alright. I wonder how strong the exotic beasts in there are?” Zhang Che mumbled to himself, but his expression was one of indifference.
Although the information Huang Juyun gave him indicated that this place known as Myriad Poison Swamp had tons of poisonous exotic beasts, Zhang Che had the elemental queen and the Scarlet Flame Drake, both masters at wielding flames. They weren’t afraid of poison attacks.
Not only that, the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon wasn’t vulnerable to poison attacks, either. The three epic-level combatants could totally guarantee Zhang Che’s safety.
The Earthen Rock Demon, on the other hand, wasn’t suitable for this kind of terrain. Its terrifying weight alone would make it sink into the swamp in no time, leaving it unable to display its strength.
While the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon streaked across the sky, Zhang Che saw a few groups of beastmasters below hunting weak exotic beasts at the edge of the swamp.
Seeing the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon fly past, the beastmasters below stopped whatever they were doing, one after another. Every one of them acted like a formidable opponent had just arrived, looking warily at the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon in the sky.
It was only after they saw Zhang Che and the elemental queen on the dragon’s back that they heaved long sighs of relief.
Luckily it was only a beastmaster passing by, and not a wild exotic beast. Otherwise, judging from the terrifying aura coming from the blue dragon, they really wouldn’t be able to put up much resistance if it decided to attack them!

After the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon flew past them, some of the beastmasters hesitated for some time and decided to turn back, returning in the direction of the safety zone.
This area was a little too dangerous, after all. It was a beastmaster passing by this time, but there was no guarantee the next! Placing themselves in danger for some prey wasn’t what the wise would do.
When Zhang Che looked back, the beastmaster groups behind had become tiny dots in the distance. These people weren’t strong; them leaving was good. Otherwise, when he began his massacre of the mid-tier and above exotic bests in this area, there might be some exotic beasts that went running in their direction. Zhang Che would feel bad if they were caught up in the mess.
“That works, too. I’m afraid you’ll go too deep later and get frightened by my babies. I can’t take responsibility for that.”
“Gwa!” As the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon continued on, Zhang Che suddenly heard a mournful call from the skies ahead.
Looking in the direction the sound came from, it turned out to be a huge bird, fully black in color, crowing at them, protesting that the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon had obviously barged into its territory.
“Hmm? Could it be that this black bird is also an epic-quality exotic beast?”
Zhang Che was a little curious. From afar, this black bird had very wide wingspan, like a dark cloud. After noticing the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s aura, not only did it not run away, it even tried to provoke them. Obviously it wasn’t weak.
At the very least, it wasn’t afraid of the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon!
It went without saying that exotic beasts who weren’t afraid of the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon were at least at epic-quality. Not only that, they had to be on the stronger side of the spectrum. After all, the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon was emitting a dragon’s might; ordinary exotic beasts would be very afraid of him if they saw him.

“Come, we’ll go pay it a visit and see how strong this black bird is!” Zhang Che immediately grew interested. He quickly ordered the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon to fly in the black bird’s direction.
“Gwa! Gwa! Gwa!” That enormous black bird was like a crow, calling out non-stop. It was probably warning the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon. Its huge body suddenly took off with the wind, painting a dark streak in the air as it quickly charged at them.
“Master, let this servant take care of it!”
They were still far away from one another, but the elemental queen suddenly stood up on the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s back. She let out a battlecry and suddenly a flaming halberd was in her hands. With a swing of her slender arms, the flaming halberd turned into a golden scarlet streak of light and flew towards the huge black bird.
“Gwa!” the black bird let out another mournful cry. Its body shook for a moment, narrowly dodging the flaming halberd attack.
While Zhang Che was waiting for it to come closer to use the scarlet and white sword to attack it, the beast suddenly turned around and flew off.
Zhang Che nearly fell off from the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s back.
-What the heck? I was all ready and you actually chickened out at the last moment?-
“Master, quickly give chase! Let’s pluck it and roast it!” the elemental queen said, anticipating the meal.
However, Zhang Che didn’t let the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon pursue the bird.
The huge black bird wasn’t slow; similar to the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon, it was moving at around Mach 2. The chances of them catching up were slim to none.
Instead of wasting time here, it was better to make their way to the Myriad Poison Swamp as soon as possible to hunt more exotic beasts and accumulate soul force points, allowing him to advance to Tier Seven beastmaster earlier.
“I’ll definitely rip all its feathers out and roast it the next time I see it!” The elemental queen mumbled, obviously loathing the huge black bird’s cry. She couldn’t do a thing about it if Zhang Che wasn’t willing to give chase, however.
—–
Finally, big and small lakes started appearing in the horizon. The vegetation in the area gradually increased, from sparse to low bushes, and even rich water plants.
They had arrived at the Myriad Poison Swamp.
“Come, fly a little lower!”
Zhang Che equipped the Purple-Gold Demonic Armored Worm armor, in case he accidentally came into contact with any poisons from exotic beasts while battling. Afterwards, he instructed the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon to dive down to the swamp below.
From afar, Zhang Che saw a bunch of human-sized exotic beasts that resembled frogs, scattered across the swamp in groups of two or three.
“These are really the ugliest exotic beasts I’ve ever seen!” Zhang Che pursed his lips in disdain when he saw the weird-looking ugly frog-like exotic beasts covered in sticky slime all over.
Those exotic beasts were truly too ugly. They were simply unrivalled in that regard.
However, this didn’t stop Zhang Che from treating them as prey. He didn’t need to fight them in melee himself anyway. Feeling a little disgusted with them was nothing; he could still take it.
The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon quickly descended. When they were only a few hundred meters above the swamp, the frog-like exotic beasts finally noticed something was amiss. The frogs raised their ugly heads one after another, looking up to the sky, then started clamoring and gathering together, seemingly afraid of being left behind.
“Hmm? Are they lining up to get executed?”
Zhang Che found the sight a little strange. He didn’t understand why these frog-like exotic beasts didn’t run away and clustered together instead.

The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody
[participant in the 2018 NaNoWriMo Royal Road challenge] The Ordinary Life of Tom Nobody is a LitRPG system story where each person transitions into the system, or SCHEMA as this system is known, innocent and unaware of his former life. Following the tutorial, memories return, but by this point, each person has a better chance of accepting their new world. It also gives them an opportunity to start from scratch, fresh without all the baggage of their former lives dictating their decisions in the early stages of the process. I don’t expect this will necessarily turn into an action-packed heroic tale, my intent is to create a character who wants to have just an ordinary, but reasonably comfortable life. I don’t know myself how well he will succeed, there may be twists and Tom may discover some heroism hidden deep inside. I guess we’ll find out together. This is my first writing attempt. I’ve wanted to write all my life, but I’ve never been able to develop the proper discipline to put in the work. I hope I complete the challenge and work my way past this hump. I am writing this as part of the NaNoWriMo Royal Road Challenge. While I will try to self-edit as I go, the challenge requires close to 2,000 words a day, so parts of the story may be rough, and things like plot lines may not make as much sense as any of us would like. If all goes well, and I complete the challenge, I plan on going back through everything and trying to polish it up. In the meanwhile, thank you for reading and I hope I don’t disappoint.
