Chapter 462: Stronger, and Uglier
Translator: Exodus Tales Editor: Exodus Tales
Edited by Aelryinth
“Baba, I, stronger!” the frisky monkey cried excitedly to Zhang Che after getting a feel of his much stronger body.
However, Zhang Che’s brow was furrowed.
“Not good looking. He doesn’t look cute at all now…”
All of a sudden, the frisky monkey turned from a little exquisite monkey into a gorilla. That ugly face which originally had a hint of cuteness to it had become an utter tragedy!
How wronged the frisky monkey must feel!
-I finally advanced after much difficulty, and in the end master daddy you only cared whether I looked good or cute?-
Zhang Che let out a long sigh. -How I miss the old frisky monkey. His current appearance is really too ugly! So ugly that I can’t look at him straight!-
As for the point about the frisky monkey having grown stronger, Zhang Che really didn’t care about that. He already had a bunch of powerful subdued beasts and pets. Having one more or not made no difference.
Moreover, this fellow’s strength was far from comparable to the likes of the Scarlet Flame Drake and the others. How useful could he be?
However, when he saw the grief on the frisky monkey’s face, Zhang Che couldn’t bear to continue hurting him. He nodded and said, “Not bad. You really advanced two star tiers in one go. When you finally advance to legend-quality some day, you’d really possess powerful strength then.”
After consuming the Blood-Sucking Demon Vine’s essence, the frisky monkey had directly advanced two star tiers, as Zhang Che had expected, and he became a five-star exotic beast.

However, an increase in level wasn’t comparable to an upgrade in quality, after all. The growth of his strength wouldn’t be too noticeable.
The range of the frisky monkey’s passive spiritual sense increased from fifteen hundred meters to two thousand meters. It was better than nothing. Meanwhile, the range of his skill increased by five kilometers, reaching fifteen kilometers radius. That search range had increased by a large margin!
With that, Zhang Che would be much faster at searching and gathering spiritual herbs in the future. Other than that, there weren’t many differences in the frisky monkey’s attributes.
Seeing the nonchalant look on Zhang Che’s face, the frisky monkey knew his master daddy didn’t seem very satisfied with his growth.
-But what can I do about this? An increase in level isn’t as good as an upgrade in quality. It is basically impossible for my attributes to improve significantly. Moreover, my strength has already grown to a terrifying degree. If I have a strong bow equipped, I can probably even injure a mid-tier legend-quality exotic beast, can’t I?-
When he thought of that, the frisky monkey immediately grew excited and cried out loud, “Baba, bow, bow!”
-What are you going on about, talking about male and female?!-
{ TLN: Bow has the same pronunciation as male.}
That fellow’s ability to speak didn’t improve at all. Zhang Che didn’t understand the frisky monkey immediately and couldn’t react to it. It was only when the frisky monkey used his hands to gesture himself drawing a bow that he reacted to it, understanding the monkey’s meaning.
“Right! This fellow is a few sizes bigger now. His strength must be at an even more terrifying level. I wonder how strong a bow he can draw now?”
Thinking of that, Zhang Che began looking forward to seeing it.
In the past, his subdued beasts and pets had grown too fast too quickly. Zhang Che had put the matter about using bows and arrows aside.
After all, although the arrows shot by him and the frisky monkey were extremely powerful, they could only cause harm to mid-tier dark gold-quality exotic beasts at the most. Legend-quality beasts wouldn’t be hurt at all.
As a result, the Falling Star Model X and Fallen Star bows had been stowed away in his spatial storage for a very long time without being used. Zhang Che had nearly forgotten about them.

Now that the frisky monkey had jumped from three-stars to five-stars directly, in addition to him being at dark gold-quality, his strength must have increased by a huge margin.
Muttering to himself, Zhang Che took out the Falling Star Model X bow.
The frisky monkey received it happily, holding the bow with one hand and sticking out his thumb on the other, hooking it onto the drawstring. He pulled on it lightly, and the super strong bow was easily drawn by the frisky monkey.
“Damn!” Zhang Che was really surprised. The new Falling Star Model X had a maximum draw weight of thirty-two hundred kilograms! Although the frisky monkey could draw it easily in the past, he couldn’t do it with just a finger!
Judging from the frisky monkey’s performance, it seemed he still had strength to spare.
“Hah, not bad! When we return, we’ll go test your draw weight and custom order a real superstrong bow for you. That way, you’ll be able to display extremely terrifying combat force!”
Zhang Che felt he might have been a little too reserved in his guess. Based on the strength the frisky monkey had displayed, if he was equipped with a superstrong bow, perhaps even legend-quality exotic beasts would be easily sniped by him, and maybe even epic-quality exotic beasts might be threatened!
Of course, Zhang Che wasn’t exactly sure how strong the frisky monkey was. So, he still had to wait until they got back to conduct the proper tests to know.
“Daddy, I, strong, no ugly!” the frisky monkey argued excitedly after displaying his strength. {TLN: Yes, he’s pronouncing daddy correctly now!}
From his perspective, now that he was stronger, he shouldn’t be considered ugly, right?
Zhang Che nodded expressionlessly, “Mmm, not ugly!”
However, he cursed inside, -No matter how freaking strong you are, that face of yours is still a tragedy! Return me my cute little frisky monkey!-
Hearing Zhang Che’s untruthful words, the frisky monkey couldn’t be any happier. He jumped around nimbly, doing about a dozen flips consecutively in the air and landing easily.
With that huge body, he was actually able to move as nimbly as a gymnast. It really made the frisky monkey seem like he wasn’t that ugly.
“Come on, let’s go. Stop showing off. We still have to gather spiritual herbs.” Zhang Che cast a glance at the frisky monkey, then turned to jump onto the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s back, ready to continue gathering spiritual herbs.
They had only visited this place because the spiritual fluctuations were the strongest here. There were surely many more spiritual herbs to be found in the area.
“Daddy, wait for me!”
The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon was already ready to take off when Zhang Che jumped onto the former’s back. The frisky monkey cried out and jumped over in a hurry, directly sitting on the dragon’s back, his position less than a meter away from the elemental queen.
Society judged heavily on appearance. Sensing the frisky monkey coming up behind her, the elemental queen turned her head around and shot a glare at him, scaring him into shivering all over. He could only shift backwards a little, not daring to get too close to this flame demon.
Well, in Zhang Che’s eyes, the elemental queen was an absolute beauty, but to the frisky monkey, she was covered in flames, someone he couldn’t afford to offend!
—–
Under the frisky monkey’s guidance, Zhang Che in turn directed the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon and scavenged the surrounding hundreds of square kilometers, obtaining dozens of spiritual herbs.
This area was probably advantageous for growing spiritual herbs. Of the herbs he found, a third of them were actually mid-grade spiritual herbs, leaving Zhang Che smiling so widely his eyes couldn’t be seen.
However, they didn’t discover any high-grade spiritual herbs, which left him slightly regretful as well. Naturally, one needed some luck to come across a high-grade spiritual herb. It was a rare resource in the beast world.
Of course, Zhang Che couldn’t say for sure that there weren’t more high-grade spiritual herbs deeper in the beast world. After all, he was only thousands of kilometers deep into the beast world. Compared to the whole beast world, perhaps he was only at the edge of it.
——
After gathering all of the spiritual herbs in the area, Zhang Che instructed the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon to return to the safety zone along the route they took when they entered.
The mid-tier and higher exotic beasts, as well as the spiritual herbs, were all swept away. It was time to change locations.
No, not right. It was time to return to Bei Du and custom order a real superstrong bow for the frisky monkey!

Old Riding Author Lunatic Asylum
Just off the A19, in the dark, incomprehensible lands known as Yorkshire, there lies a town. A town where shadow-silent alleys glint with the secret hunger of knives. Where blood soaks the chipboard window shutters of forsaken terraces stretching off into the night. Where the smog-choked air rattles with the depraved laughter echoing out from clubs that can only generously be described as post-apocalyptic. Well, that’s Middlesbrough. But down the A19 a bit (an impossibly long way down, actually) there lies another town: Raughnen, in the ancient, forgotten Old Riding. It is an equal match in muggery and thuggery alike. It also has magic spells and pointy wizard hats. And now, across the miles and across all sensibilities, a pretty nasty power (a magic one) calls out for its pretty nasty counterpart (a decidedly unmagic one): a proper sound Boro lad. Nothing good can come of it. This is a collection of one novella and four connected short stories: I. A Yorkshire Summoning II. Old Riding Day Trip (the novella) III. Heaven is a Parmo IV. Death on the 66 V. Death on the 257 In total, this comprises 34 chapters totalling around 35,000 words, so try not to worry. It will be over relatively quickly. There are three more short stories with more tenuous links to the core collection: Rush, Paper Round and Scenario 79: Sausage Fingers, all of which can be found in my collection Short Records of Misadventure. Reading these may allow you to make more sense of certain parts of the story, if any sense is to be made at all. NOTE: There are instances of prejudice and discrimination within these stories, including elements of sexism and ageism, which are purely the thoughts and actions of the characters involved and which certainly do not reflect my own views on these matters. ANOTHER NOTE; A WARNING, PERHAPS: This can get a bit weird. In less than 150 pages, we have four viewpoints, first and third person narratives, and a completely disjointed plot with lots of gaps, dead ends and no real resolution. Also ZERO lunatic asylums. It's all a bit odd. If that sort of thing isn't your cup of tea, which it most likely isn't, it might be best to move on now.
