Chapter 389: Forcing Through the Exotic Beast Horde
Translator: Exodus Tales Editor: Exodus Tales
Edited by Aelryinth
Unbeknownst to Zhang Che, the squad members behind him were starting to develop a sense of fan worship towards him.
His gaze was always looking ahead. His capable babies were spread out in a fan shape, purposefully picking exotic beasts that were five-star dark gold-quality and above as their opponents.
As for the rest, the fifteen squad members behind him weren’t here just for show, either. Every one of them had at least two mid-tier dark gold-quality subdued beasts. Dealing with those that slipped through Zhang Che’s net truly wasn’t difficult for them.
After killing every high-quality exotic beast, Zhang Che couldn’t help but feel his heart bleeding.
Every one of them was worth money!
If they were used to buy high-grade ingredients, it would have been enough for one or two of his babies to rank up!
Fortunately, the satellites in outer space would record everything. When the battle was over, there would be soldiers coming to clear up the area, and register the kills everyone made, then reward them according to the worth of the exotic beast corpses.
Even so, the value of the exotic beast corpses were much lower than beast cards. Zhang Che couldn’t help but feel his heart ache over this, especially since his babies were extremely efficient at killing them.
With almost every breath he took, an exotic beast would fall to the attacks of one of his babies. Those exotic beasts were specifically chosen, every one of them at least five-star dark gold-quality.
If it were in the beast world, that would be more than a hundred thousand purple crystal points!
“Damn it, I don’t care anymore. I’m not the only one suffering heavy losses!” In the end, Zhang Che decided to not think about this hurtful matter. He directed his babies to slaughter their way forward.
“Captain, wait for us! We’re almost falling behind!” Li Xin’s huffing voice reached his ears just as Zhang Che was making a rush forward.
When he looked back, he nearly slapped his palm on his head.
Although the relatively stronger exotic beasts were all slain by him, the surrounding exotic beasts rushing up to them from the sides weren’t small in number, either. The fifteen squad members could barely keep them at bay, let alone keep up with Zhang Che’s pace.
Left without a choice, Zhang Che could only have the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon slow down. At the same time, he had the Scarlet Flame Drake and Steel-Armored Tyrannosaurus turn back to support Li Xin and the rest.
Looking down from the sky, the exotic beasts and the beastmaster army were deeply engaged in battle. Within the mess, twenty-three squads were like twenty-three spears, piercing deep into the exotic beast horde, each of them picking on the stronger exotic beasts to execute.

As for the weaker beastmaster squads, they didn’t push their way forward chaotically. Instead, they were split into small teams, using a more defensive formation to advance slowly and steadily.
After all, people weren’t familiar with the summoned beasts, with the exception of their own squadmates’. If they accidentally treated others’ minions as exotic beasts and killed them, wouldn’t it become a huge joke?
As such, employing this method where each squad were battling on their own, the beastmasters could best display their strength, and yet not turn the situation into a mess.
——
At the military district in Bei Du, in a command center, many generals were gathered to watch the push.
A wide screen was hung on the spacious wall, subdivided many times, showing those in the center the whole situation at the northern icy plains clearly.
A certain video feed was enlarged, showing a certain spearhead team penetrating deep into the exotic beast horde. Each of the subdued beasts of that squad’s leader was stronger than the next, slaying every strong exotic beast that came close. It looked like there was no one who could match them.
Under such fierce attacks, this squad didn’t encounter the slightest hint of danger, moving swiftly within the beast horde as if they were taking a stroll in their courtyard.
A middle-aged general looked at Huang Juyun, saying in a half serious, half joking manner, “General Huang, I’m so envious of you having such a great daughter!”
After the life and death battle with Zhen Liu, Zhang Che was now extremely well known among the circles of the higher-ups. After all, although beastmasters in their late teens like him and already so strong weren’t completely unheard of, they were extremely rarely seen.
As long as people like him didn’t fall halfway, they would surely become a pillar of any large clan, or perhaps even become a cornerstone of all of humanity. To say that those present weren’t envious of Huang Juyun having such a prospective son-in-law would be impossible.
Huang Juyun was originally worried about whether Zhang Che could complete this mission well. Now that he saw Zhang Che directing his subdued beasts and slaughtering those high-quality exotic beasts at the front line, while at the same time maintaining a good distance between him and his squad members behind, not letting them getting into danger, he felt reassured.
His performance was extremely high!
“Hahahaha, I can’t help it! Our Lanlan has a good eye and took a liking to this brat Zhang Che before he even showed what he was capable of. This is an innate gift; your girls can’t learn that!”
Well, Huang Juyun naturally had a reason to feel proud.
Zhang Che wasn’t the only one who had earned a fortune from the arena deathmatch. When Huang Juyun saw his prospective son-in-law acting so confident and seemingly not putting the duel to heart, he mustered the courage and placed a heavy bet. In the end, he gained tens of millions of purple crystal points!

After receiving his prize, he was both excited and regretful. If he had known earlier, he would have put up the remainder of the huge spiritual jade as collateral and earned a huge fortune off it.
“Damn you, Huang Juyun! Are you saying our daughters are blind?”
A wave of laughter burst out in the hall. The generals didn’t show any anxiety at all, and started chatting and joking among themselves.
From the satellite’s surveillance feed, this operation was simply extraordinarily successful.
As of now, other than some of the squad members’ subdued beasts suffering injuries of various degrees, there weren’t any casualties among the twenty-three spearhead teams.
Not only that, since the strongest exotic beasts ahead were basically all killed, the main force behind them didn’t have many casualties. Their losses were totally within the acceptable range.
Of course, it would be impossible to achieve zero casualties in such a large-scale battle, unless everyone was as strong as Zhang Che and could directly steamroll over their foes.
Obviously, Zhang Che himself didn’t have the strength to directly steamroll forward, either. At the moment, he had encountered the strongest exotic beast since entering this battleground.
It was a five-star epic-quality exotic beast, a huge tortoise as large as a hill!
This huge tortoise’s False Domain was actually the rarely seen pure defensive type. Not only did it increase the tortoise’s defense by a large degree, it also strengthened the nearby exotic beasts, who were surrounding Zhang Che’s squad.
“Everybody be careful, protect yourselves!”
Zhang Che creased his brow slightly. A rainbow light shot out from his brow. The Earthen Rock Demon immediately appeared in the battleground, drawing the gazes of nearly every exotic beast and the beastmasters nearby.
After all, this giant stone man that stood dozens of meters tall was like a skyscraper. It was impossible not to draw the attention of others.
“So this is captain’s epic-quality subdued beast? It really is so powerful that it leaves others in despair!”
Although the Earthen Rock Demon’s Gravity Field didn’t directly affect Li Xin and the others, they still felt the terrifying pressure it exerted. Their faces paled a little, subconsciously thinking that if they encountered such a powerful exotic beast, they wouldn’t be able to resist it at all. A stomp from it would turn them into meat paste.
“Shatter that tortoise shell!”
Zhang Che didn’t have time to waste here. He directly ordered the Earthen Rock Demon to charge at the huge tortoise ahead.
The Earthen Rock Demon emitted a silent roar and trudged forward on its massive legs. On its way, many exotic beasts failed to avoid it in time, and were either turned into meat paste, or knocked flying, their bones and veins broken.
The huge tortoise had obviously realized the danger, too. It directly turned around and crawled to the back of the exotic beast horde.
The fellow actually ran without a fight!
Don’t underestimate it, thinking that it wouldn’t be fast moving on all fours. In fact, its speed wasn’t inferior to some flying beasts!
However, how could the Earthen Rock Demon let it escape just like that? A splendid light rose from the ground along its legs, and a huge rock spear shining with lightning immediately appeared in its hand.
In the next moment, there was a loud crack of thunder. Everyone only saw a tunnel of flesh and blood in the air ahead. Countless exotic beasts that stood in the path of the Earthen Rock Demon’s attack were blown into mists of blood. The rock spear’s momentum remained unaffected, striking the huge tortoise’s shell in the blink of an eye.
A deafening explosion rang out. The terrifying rock spear struck the huge tortoise’s incredibly tough shell, instantly shattering it.
The huge tortoise let out a miserable cry, a large hole appearing in its body. Yet even with such an injury, it actually didn’t die on the spot!
“As expected of an epic-quality exotic beast. Its defense and vitality is astonishing, despite being a star tier lower than the Earthen Rock Demon,” Zhang Che sighed, then directed the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon to fly ahead.
The huge tortoise, having suffered such a heavy injury, was obviously unable to use its False Domain any longer. The threat it posed to Zhang Che directly fell by ninety percent. The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon quickly drew closer. The scarlet sword flew out of Zhang Che’s brow, entering the huge tortoise’s back through the wound and sliced around, instantly ending its life.
After slaying the huge tortoise, Zhang Che felt his heart aching so badly he couldn’t breathe.
If there wasn’t anyone around, he would have tried to use the rainbow crystal to tame this huge tortoise. Alas, he would never dare to expose his secrets in such a setting. He could only watch as the huge tortoise’s vitality slipped away silently.
After killing this huge tortoise, no other powerful exotic beast appeared. Zhang Che didn’t recall the Earthen Rock Demon, either. He had it act as the vanguard, while his other subdued beasts and pets followed behind, directly clearing a path through the exotic beast horde.
Seeing the closely packed demonic army ahead in his sight, Zhang Che couldn’t help but narrow his eyes slightly.
Killing all those exotic beasts gained him some soul force points, at least. He wondered what kind of rewards he would get for killing those invading demonic creatures?

Alas, they soon found themselves stranded in a land abandoned— now, too, abandoned themselves. Patchwork System
Notification (cannot be ignored): For being the first being to kill another of its own species after Sublimation, Lyam Aldren is awarded the Title of Cain’s Successor. Let all fear the Kinslayer!!! Lyam Aldren, killer for hire, was just going about his business when he suddenly received a notification from something called the System. Apparently, the entirety of Earth, its denizens and its matter were transported into the world of the System, planted in 'patches' all throughout the infinite world. The world of the Patchwork System is one of challenges, where life is cheap, power is king, and Classes and levels are a thing. In a brutal world, there is perhaps room for a killer with bloodstained hands to find his own way, free of his past. However, his Title and his inherent nature plague him, his fragmented personality laid bare to those with the eyes to see, and if he doesn't become powerful enough to defeat or escape those who would use or destroy him, he will quickly be devoured by the merciless world created by the System. Compared to my previous work, this is a more 'classic' litrpg setup, with clear (if somewhat complex) progression through levels and skill gains, with a 'system apocalypse' setup. Unlike most system apocalypse story protagonists, Lyam is neither a leader nor is he particularly interested in saving his fellow Earthlings. This is a story of a man who is both endangered and set free by the destruction of his old world, as he finds both power, new discoveries, and adventure in a place where his past matters not at all and power is the only language most speak. Later in the story, there will be harem elements, but the first volume is dedicated to Lyam's first months in the System. For those who are more interested in the Heirs of the Hooded King, I am putting it on hiatus as I rework the setting and future story developments a bit.
