Chapter 382: Unexpected Reverse Kill
Translator: Exodus Tales Editor: Exodus Tales
Edited by Aelryinth
“Brat, you want to die faster? I’ll grant your wish!”
Seeing Zhang Che’s three epic-quality subdued beasts surround and beating on his remaining epic-quality subdued beast, a surge of killing intent shone in Zhen Liu’s eyes. He waved his hand once more, recalling the fire-attributed epic-quality subdued beast, too.
—
The crowd was stunned when they saw this.
Exactly what kind of situation was going on between these two? One of them summoned his spare epic-quality subdued beast without a care, while the other acted incredibly cooperatively and recalled both his powerful subdued beasts. Was he not afraid that his opponent would kill him?
Could it be that this representative from the Zhen family was bribed by the Huang family?
Impossible! This was a life or death match. Who would sell their lives away to the enemy?
Even so, far off in the Zhen family’s camp, Zhen Manting and the others revealed faint smiles on their faces, as if victory was right in their grasp.
The two epic-quality subdued beasts were only for show, to confuse Zhang Che. Now that this kid had revealed his cards, he could do nothing but wait to get captured!
—
Zhang Che didn’t think so, however. A sharp killing intent flashed across his eyes when he saw Zhen Liu recalling the two epic-quality subdued beasts. Riding on the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon, he and the Winged Dragon Wind God were side by side as they rushed towards Zhen Liu, who was still up in the air.
Once he came within a hundred and fifty meters, the scarlet sword could reach its target in a flash, cutting him down!
Seeing Zhang Che charging straight at him, Zhen Liu didn’t show any signs of worry.
He sat on his aerial beast’s back peacefully, looking at Zhang Che, who was approaching from the bottom up, with a calm expression, as if he was looking at a dead person.
Three hundred meters… two hundred fifty meters… two hundred meters…
Almost there!
However, right at that moment, a rainbow ray suddenly shot out from Zhen Liu’s brow, quickly turning into an exquisite little golden hand bell.
No, that wasn’t a hand bell, but a miniaturized church bell!
Many profound patterns were carved onto the golden bell. One look and you could tell it was no simple object.
Zhang Che’s complexion fell abruptly. He immediately thought of sound wave attacks.
If this thing really was a beast card weapon that used sound wave attacks, how was he supposed to withstand it?
That was a mid-tier epic-quality beast card weapon! It was totally different from the Mutated Puffersword he had used before. It would be countless times stronger than that!
-So this is the Zhen family’s real ace in the hole?
-Run!-
He was right about to get within a hundred and fifty meters of Zhen Liu. However, Zhang Che didn’t dare to gamble whether he had the chance to summon the scarlet sword.
The best outcome would be the scarlet sword killing Zhen Liu with a single slash, and then his brain would be shattered by the sound waves produced by the epic-quality beast card weapon. It would only be taking Zhen Liu with him to the grave.

Zhen Liu was only a pawn of the Zhen family, or even a suicide warrior. Perhaps he wasn’t afraid of dying! But, Zhang Che wasn’t willing to exchange for the life of someone like that with his own.
As such, he quickly ordered the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon to turn around without any hesitation, diving down.
It was only at this moment that Zhang Che truly realized what kind of foundations a deep-rooted large clan would have. They weren’t something he could compare to!
—
On the hill where the Huang family’s camp was, when Zhen Liu took out that little golden bell, Huang Juyun’s complexion immediately turned extremely ugly.
-So that’s the hidden card the Zhen family prepared?!-
Although he didn’t know what kind of attacks this little bell used, Huang Juyun was sure that this was an extremely dangerous beast card weapon. No matter how strong a person was, they wouldn’t be able to withstand it without the relevant defense in place.
If possible, Huang Juyun really wanted to just admit defeat. Even if he had to compensate the Zhen family a large amount of purple crystal points, he was willing to do so.
Alas, it was obvious the Zhen family wouldn’t agree to it.
“Hopefully the kid can surprise me and tide this over…”
—
Seeing Zhang Che turning tail to run without any hesitation, Zhen Liu finally revealed a smile that declared everything was within his control. He chuckled, “Brat, do you think you can run from this?”
Done speaking, he aimed the little golden bell in Zhang Che’s direction, then used his other hand and quickly flicked the bell thrice.
In the next moment, a terrifying invisible energy gushed out from the golden bell, instantly catching up to the escaping Zhang Che and the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon he was riding.
The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon cried out sadly, and suddenly lost control of his body, falling towards the ground. Meanwhile, Zhang Che suddenly froze for a split second. Afterwards, he fell forward without any warning and laid down on the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s back, his status unknown.
Well, he was probably still alive… , was the only thought the crowd had in mind.
If Zhang Che had died just like that, his subdued beasts would have turned into streaks of light and dissipated at the same time, leaving not a trace behind…
———
“Zhang Che!”
“Brother Zhang!”
“Brother Che!”
A few shocked cries rang out from the Huang family’s camp. Huang Tielan trembled in fear, two trails of tears rolling down her cheeks. She suddenly turned around and hugged Huang Juyun’s arm, weeping, “Dad, let’s just admit defeat, okay? If this goes on, Zhang Che will really die!”
Huang Juyun’s face was ghastly pale, his brow deeply furrowed. He could only smile bitterly and shake his head when he heard that. With things having progressed to this point, what use was there in admitting defeat? Would the Zhen family spare Zhang Che?
Huang Tielan was only speaking from impulse. Naturally she knew it was impossible for them to admit defeat in this situation. Thinking of how Zhang Che might die right in front of her eyes, Miss Tienan felt like the world was crashing down on her. Her body went limp, and she fell to the ground.

“Lanlan!” Huang Juyun cried out in shock. He hurriedly held Huang Tielan up, and he saw the look of desperation on her face. He was at a loss, not knowing how he should console her. He could only sigh and beckon for two female soldiers to bring her to go rest.
—
The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon finally crashed heavily to the sandy ground with a loud bang, raising a shower of dirt and dust.
The Winged Dragon Wind God and the Jade-Shelled Mystic Tortoise let out furious roars, charging towards where Zhang Che had fallen from the other side, wanting to protect their master.
Even so, it was already too late.
Even as the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon was falling, Zhen Liu had quickly given chase on his aerial beast.
“Hmm? This kid’s mental fortitude is so tough! He actually didn’t die right away after suffering such a severe mental attack! He mustn’t be left alive, indeed!”
The killing intent in Zhen Liu’s eyes grew fiercer. He raised the little golden bell in his hand once more. After coming within two hundred meters of Zhang Che, he bent the fingers in his free hand again.
After thinking for a moment, he didn’t launch his attack immediately. The intensity of the golden bell’s attack varied with the distance between it and the target. It had already failed to kill Zhang Che at this distance, and thus, Zhen Liu wanted to get a little closer before attacking.
However, just as he was about to attack, the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon under Zhang Che suddenly turned into a mass of five-colored light and returned to his brow. As it did, a scarlet light streaked across a hundred and fifty meters at lightning speed and whirled around Zhen Liu’s neck.
His legend-quality armor was actually unable to withstand the scarlet streak of light’s attack in the slightest. Zhen Liu’s head was sliced off cleanly along with his helmet, and a pillar of blood shot upwards, launching it almost two meters into the air.
Zhen Liu’s body suddenly froze. His finger was less than a millimeter away from the golden bell. On his flying head, a look of disbelief was visible.
-How is this possible? How can this kid be unharmed after such a powerful mental attack? According to the clan master’s investigation, wasn’t this kid’s killer move that earth-attributed epic-quality subdued beast from before? What was that scarlet streak of light…-
Zhen Liu’s consciousness quickly faded into darkness.
A miserable cry rang out. Underneath his stiffening body, the legend-quality flying beast suddenly turned into a streak of light and quickly dissipated, along with the golden bell.
—
The scarlet light that sliced off Zhen Liu’s head circled around like lightning and flew back to Zhang Che’s brow.
Still wearing his purplish-golden armor, Zhang Che stood quietly on the sandy ground, looking like an armored god of war descended from ancient times.
No one knew that at this moment, Zhang Che was covered in a layer of cold sweat.
Luckily, the golden bell didn’t employ sound wave attacks. Otherwise, even if he wasn’t killed by his opponent, he would have had to pay an extremely heavy price to emerge victorious.
-A mental attack… hehe…-
—
In the Zhen family’s camp, Zhen Manting directly shot up from her seat under the umbrella when she saw the reversal. Her complexion turned extremely ugly, crying out, “Impossible!”
How was that kid able to withstand the mental attack from an epic-quality beast card weapon? This didn’t make sense at all!
Let alone a mere mid-tier beastmaster, even a high-tier beastmaster could do nothing but succumb to such a queer attack. How was he unharmed!?
What struck even more fear in Zhen Manting was the scarlet streak of light that flew out from Zhang Che’s brow.
“That thing… why does it resemble the extremely rare spiritual sword fragments from the secret planes? But, since when can a person control a spiritual sword fragment with such speed?”
Although there weren’t many people who possessed spiritual sword fragments, they weren’t few in number, either. The Zhen family was even in possession of two spiritual sword fragments!
Even so, those things known as spiritual swords weren’t very powerful if they attacked on their own, despite their reach. If you wanted to control them, however, the amount of mental energy you had to exhaust wasn’t something a mid-tier beastmaster could keep up. Even a high-tier beastmaster could only control a spiritual sword fragment to attack within several dozen meters of them, at the most.
—
Huang Tielan, who had originally gone limp and needed Huang Juyun to support her, and was about to get helped by two female soldiers to go rest, suddenly opened her eyes wide. Afterwards, she suddenly regained her strength and, nearly jumping in excitement, she exclaimed, “He won?!”
“This kid, there’s really a ton of secrets on him!” Huang Juyun couldn’t help but show a satisfied smile.
—
At the same time, on the hills around the arena, the spectators erupted into a commotion again. Such an unexpected reversal had astonished countless people!
Judging from the original situation, Zhang Che was sure to die. Who would have expected him to turn the tables at the last moment, and quickly complete his reverse kill? There was no way anyone could have anticipated such a result!
A deathmatch that should have been decided by Original Combat Body-type epic-quality subdued beasts had, in the end, turned into a fight where the main characters were mysterious weapons!
No matter who they placed their bets on, and whether they had earned a fortune, or lost everything down to their pants, everyone present had to admit that this arena deathmatch was definitely the most spectacular battle they had ever witnessed in their lives!
——
When the referee team formed by the government council and the military announced Zhang Che as the winner of the arena deathmatch, everything was settled.
Just as the crowd was experiencing a mix of joy and sorrow, a strange, ominous fluctuation suddenly swept across everybody present. Anyone who was an official beastmaster clearly felt it.
What was going on…?

Yin-Yang
Mages in North America seem to have it all – typically from well-off families, and able to manipulate their environment in ways most of the world would never believe. They don’t even have to bother with the mundane details of life like housework, thanks to their sensitives, who also make a useful source for extra magical energy. After all, sensitives have no use for it themselves, and if mages weren’t meant to make use of it, then the sensitives would obviously have some way to prevent that. That a mage can transform a sensitive physically, with no restrictions beyond overall mass and basic biological viability, whereas magic tends not to work directly on any other living thing, is only further proof. And look at the way they live on their own, barely a step above animals. It’s better for them to belong to a mage. Sensitives in North America live on the edge of society and survival – typically so paranoid they avoid hospitals and anything else that could lead to being tracked, many of them with little or no education and no legal identity or existence. Mages exist, and mages want sensitives for some reason, but no one ever comes back to explain what that reason is. Waiting every day for the hunters to notice them doesn’t lead to much motivation or hope for the future. And once they’re captured, they’re the property of someone with a terrifying amount of power over them. Anything is better than capture. Mages are born to be the masters, and sensitives are born victims. Or are they? Jax’s life is turned upside-down when he’s caught by the hunters and sold to a mage. Andreas is still mourning for his previous sensitive, though, unconsciously creating a difficult standard for Jax to live up to, all the more so while still struggling to come to terms with this new reality as Andreas’ sensitive. A runaway sensitive isn’t what Van expects at the mental health centre. Is this a hunter trap, set for him and the rest of the Donovan family by the hunters? The hunters would, after all, love to see them cross the line openly and finally do something they can be charged with. Either way, Miranda’s genuinely in trouble, and he can’t just abandon her to it. Snatching a sensitive out from under the hunters and hiding her is odd behaviour for a mage – but then, Catherine is an odd mage, living in disgrace in the old servants’ quarters of her grandmother’s house, responsible for cooking and housework. Lila owes Catherine her freedom; is there a way to help Catherine achieve her own, and at what price? Tension is building between traditionally-minded mages and those advocating change, and something has to break. *** Yin-Yang includes a small amount of profanity and no graphic sex or on-screen physical violence. However, sex and gender roles and relationships within the mage/sensitive subculture are non-traditional in mainstream North American terms. The key criterion in a primary relationship is not relative sex or gender, but the pairing of mage and sensitive; given the transformation of sensitives by their mages, physical sex is non-absolute for a sensitive, and gender identity can vary as in anyone else. *** *** The way mages treat sensitives is extremely varied and, in some cases is outright abusive. The struggle against that is pretty much the point of the book. It is NOT grimdark or misery-porn! However, if you will be triggered by this, please, don't read Yin-Yang! *** Complete stand-alone novel, 153K words! Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
