Chapter 337: If Doing Things in the Open Doesn’t Work, Then Do Things in the Dark

Actually, after assassinating the last target, Zhang Che was nearly caught by the Miyazaki Clan’s experts.
If he hadn’t transformed into a child at the crucial moment and walked out of an alley with an innocuous smile, it would have been a one-way trip for him.
“As expected of a first-rate large clan of Japan. Such reaction speed is really something! Looks like continuing the operation will be too risky.”
That night, Zhang Che hid in a forest outside of Rejing, his face filled with regret.
He had only managed to kill three of them. Although this would draw the Miyazaki Clan’s attention, it was still a little lacking for them to abandon their hunt for him.
-Mmm, for mom’s and my safety, I have to continue causing trouble!
-Cause trouble! More trouble!
-I can’t not cause trouble. Otherwise, will I have to keep living in fear?
-That won’t do. I have to think of a win-win solution!-
The sky gradually turned even darker. Zhang Che hid in the forest, on top of a tree with thick branches. He laid out his sleeping bag and went to rest.
He still had to continue his operation tomorrow. He had to make sure he had enough rest.
——
That night, an undercurrent was stirring in Rejing. The Miyazaki Clan captured many suspicious foreigners, but after their careful investigations and interrogations, they discovered none of them were involved in the assassination during the day.
Those three assassins seemed to have truly appeared out of nowhere, then vanished into thin air, not leaving any traces.
The Miyazaki Clan were helpless. They could only reinforce their protection of their descendants and important members in the dark. While ensuring their safety, they were also hoping to nab the assassins if they dared to make another move.
However, the next day was a peaceful one. Nothing happened at all.
To be more accurate, nothing happened on Japanese soil.
As per his discussion with Miyazaki Takehara, Miyazaki Musashi would set off for Hua Xia in two days. If this first-rate expert of the Miyazaki Clan were to take action, he would surely cut down the Chinese brat who had challenged their Miyazaki Clan’s authority.

However, that night, the Miyazaki Clan received a piece of news from the Bei Mei region that shocked all the top brass of the clan, thoroughly disrupting Takehara and Musashi’s original plan.
——
That day, after surveying a few locations, Zhang Che had no choice but to abandon the operation.
Every time he got close to areas where the Miyazaki Clan’s descendants or important members were, he would sense several extremely powerful auras hidden in the dark through the golden vortex. Although he was pretty confident in escaping safely after completing the assassination, he didn’t dare take the risk in the end.
Of course it’d be great if he could kill a few more Miyazaki Clan members, but there was no need to put himself in danger.
Zhang Che was someone who cherished his life very much. He didn’t wish to dance on the edge of a blade.
As such, he endured it for now. At the same time, he started thinking, to see if there were any other ways to throw the Miyazaki Clan into disorder.
After all, killing only three of their members wasn’t enough to shift their attention.
For the sake of his and his close ones’ safety, Zhang Che couldn’t afford to go easy at all!
—
That morning, a few members of the Miyazaki Clan crossed the spatial gateway to the northwest of Rejing under the secret protection of some experts, to go train themselves.
They didn’t notice that a pair of eyes were following them until they stepped through the spatial gateway.
At noon, Zhang Che returned to Rejing airport and took a sky shuttle flight to Bei Mei region’s San Diego.
After over ten hours of flight, the sky shuttle finally landed safely at the San Diego city airport.
Now, the local time was about 5 AM. The sky was just starting to turn brighter.
Returning to this place, Zhang Che immediately thought of Angelina, Jenny, and Monica, the three passionate Caucasian sisters who had been a little overwhelming.
Thinking of how he almost had a four-way that night, Zhang Che couldn’t help but shake his head with a bitter smile. He had no intention of contacting them at all.
After exiting the airport, he didn’t go to the San Diego city area. Instead, he Summoned the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon and directly headed in the direction of that pharmaceutical company’s secret base.

-Hmm, I wonder if they abandoned that base after my ambush last time?-
“Probably not, right? The base cost them a lot of resources, after all, be it financial or physical. How could they possibly abandon it so easily? At the most they’ll reinforce security and send more people to guard the base.”
As he thought that, the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon didn’t fly for long before they arrived in the skies above the mountain range where the base was.
Looking from above, the large processing plant on the surface remained, and many security installations were built in the surroundings. It seemed like they were indeed still using the base.
-Hmph, did you think you can guard against me with just that?-
Zhang Che smiled faintly. He went somewhere else to land, then recalled the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon and instead summoned the Purple Crystal Tortoise with a wave of his hand.
“No matter how solid your security on the surface is, what can you do if I enter through the underground?”
The Purple Crystal Tortoise quickly dug a tunnel, while Zhang Che followed behind it, slowly approaching the underground base.
—-
A little less than half an hour later, the Purple Crystal Tortoise had dug its way directly under the base. Afterwards, the human and beast pair looked up at the thick layer of steel above their heads. Zhang Che chuckled softly, “Hehehehe, do you think I won’t be able to do anything if you have a steel floor?”
Zhang Che smiled. A five-colored ray of light shot out from between his brows. The Scarlet Meteorite Huge Sword was in his hand, and the Purple Crystal Tortoise activated its Purple Crystal Armor skill, turning into a tough layer of tortoise shell armor around Zhang Che.
“Haa!” Zhang Che swung the Scarlet Meteorite Huge Sword with a shout. With a loud noise, a large hole appeared on the two-meter-thick steel floor.
Security alarms promptly rang throughout the entire base.
Zhang Che was like a Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, jumping up through the large opening he had created on the steel floor. Afterwards, he swung his sword to his side and started running towards the central control room, slaughtering his way to his destination.
—
Ten minutes later, Zhang Che successfully took control of the base’s control center, and stole all information regarding the pharmaceutical company’s experimental evolution fluid, which harnessed the genes of exotic beasts.
A bunch of experts finally gathered from all over the base. Among them were a few high-tier beastmasters, and there was even a high-tier epic-quality subdued beast within their ranks, which instantly turned the situation around, thoroughly suppressing Zhang Che. He was beaten so badly he had no way to retaliate at all.
In the end, Zhang Che’s tortoise shell armor failed to withstand the epic-quality subdued beast’s skill. It turned into a ball of light and flew back into his brow, revealing his “true” appearance.
“Baka!” Zhang Che seemed furious with his armor broken, cursing out loud. He turned his head around and swept his cold gaze across the bunch of pursuing soldiers, before jumping into the hole the Purple Crystal Tortoise had dug earlier, disappearing from their sight.
By the time those hidden experts arrived at the steel floor opening, they discovered the hole was already sealed with large rocks, and they were unable to continue their chase.
“Go look through the surveillance and find out which Japanese faction that damn yellow monkey is from!” The man in charge of the base ordered, gritting his teeth with a dark expression, so hard he nearly broke them.
Although the research information on the exotic beast genetic evolution fluid had been saved at their headquarters, it couldn’t be leaked outside, or they would be met with huge troubles, especially since this matter involved the forbidden act of conducting human experimentation.
Soon, a photo of Zhang Che’s revealed “true” appearance was retrieved from the surveillance center, and his identity was quickly found out through a special network.
“Miyazaki Masaki… the Japanese actually dare to be this audacious!” A cold glint shone in the base commander’s eyes. He immediately reported this to his superiors.
Afterwards, a large underground faction quickly made their moves, carrying out a destructive attack against all areas in San Diego that belonged to the Miyazaki Clan.

Find out in The Curio Shoppe! Author's note: Please suggest possible setting he could visit in the comments. I'll gather ones i'm familiar with, and at the end of every arc, a poll will be held to decide the next location he visits. There will be polls for other purposes, and I might not always go with the poll winner if I feel one of the other options is more fun to read/write about. I will not use the settings of other RRL writers without their permission.Do not ask for that, unless the author in question gives permission. Most settings he visits will be slightly AU in some way or another, but please remind me if I drift too far from canon unintentionally or characterize a character wrongly. This work will eventually fit all tags I selected once he visits universes suited to those tags, so don't ask when or where a given tag is coming. I do not own the cover art, it belongs to Nicholas Belanger Thiel, and I will stop using it if he asks me to. Kellan doesn't look like the old man on the cover, though once he acquires a disguise-type ability he may occasionally use that appearance. The tapir, however, will be a thing, as despite looking like a failed attempt at an elephant, tapirs are cool and this dragon finds them to be kinda cute.
