Chapter 326: I Choose The Baby

Beads of cold sweat formed on Zhang Che’s forehead when he saw the Wind God Leopard’s attributes.
Fortunately, due to it exhausting majority of its vital energy, it was unable to use its False Domain. Otherwise, how could they possibly kill it? Even running would be a problem!
Not only that, the Wind God Leopard didn’t even need the power of False Domain. With just its basic combat strength, it could overpower their subdued beasts easily! The difference in strength between mid-tier legend-quality beasts and high-tier epic-quality beasts was truly too great.
Similarly, due to having given birth, the Wind God Leopard had no way to escape. Otherwise, it just had to activate its Wind Surge skill and the group could only watch as it escaped. There was no way they could give chase.
As for why the Wind God Leopard’s potential was only at E Rank, Zhang Che didn’t find it strange at all. For exotic beasts, their potential actually didn’t hold much meaning. Their potential only determined how strong they could become. It had no relation to their actual strength at all.
Not only that, Zhang Che also came to the conclusion of a rule. It was that a subdued beast’s Potential Rank seemed to be never changing, but every increase in level or quality would exhaust their potential upgrades by one.
For example, if a subdued beast with B Rank potential underwent four upgrades in both level and quality, although the Potential shown from his data eyes would still display B Rank, it was already impossible for it to become any stronger.
Exotic beasts shouldn’t be like this, however. Their displayed potential should be related to their current strength.
In other words, the higher an exotic beast’s level and quality was, the lower their displayed potential would be.
Zhang Che even suspected that exotic beasts at the top level and quality might not even have the Potential attribute anymore, because they were already at the end of the line, with no way to go a step further.
That epic-quality exotic beast didn’t notice Zhang Che’s arrival, because his aura didn’t threaten it at all. At this moment, it was fully focused on the group of legend-quality beasts around it. It dragged its weakened body around, sending every beast that dared to pounce at it flying, while at the same time guarding its baby beneath it.

Seeing Zhang Che had already closed in on the epic-quality exotic beast’s side, the others’ throats leapt into their throats.
Afterwards, they saw that epic-quality exotic beast suddenly roar in both shock and anger, and it directly jumped to the side.
At that moment, the Scarlet Meteorite Huge Sword in Zhang Che’s hand emitted a blurry scarlet-black glow, striking at the epic-quality exotic beast’s neck like a flash of lightning.
The Unparalleled Sharpness skill was activated. The Scarlet Meteorite Huge Sword that seemed ordinary at first seemed to become a godly weapon, threatening the Wind God Leopard! It clearly felt that it would definitely suffer an injury it couldn’t withstand if it was struck by the blade.
However, just as the Wind God Leopard shifted its body to dodge the slash, the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon and the Mutated Giant Ape had already pounced at it, not caring about their own safety to hold it in place. It had no way to avoid the strike at all.
Feeling a mix of surprise and anger, the Wind God Leopard roared out furiously, brandishing its claws and sending Zhang Che’s babies flying. However, its neck was struck by the sword in the end.
A soft sound rang out. Zhang Che only felt a slight resistance from the sword. Afterwards, a dark light burst out from the blade, and it directly cut through the Wind God Leopard’s fur, cutting halfway into its neck. Large amounts of fresh blood splashed out like springwater, drenching Zhang Che’s face.
“Aooo….!” Following a pained cry, the Wind God Leopard turned around and lashed its two-meters-plus tail at Zhang Che. A dull whipping sound snapped against him, and he was sent flying from the impact, falling several meters away.
“Brother Zhang!” Luo Wenjun hurriedly cried out, feeling his heart tightened. If it wasn’t for the fact that he knew he was no match for that epic-quality exotic beast, he would have rushed forward.
Even so, Zhang Che seemed unaffected by the hit despite being sent flying several meters away. He quickly jumped up to his feet and charged back towards the heavily injured Wind God Leopard like a cannonball.
Given the Purple Crystal Armor’s defense, how could attacks with such wide surface area possibly injure Zhang Che?
“Hanming, keep it in place!” Zhang Che yelled. The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon slithered his way forward, his slim body immediately restricting the greatly slowed Wind God Leopard holding it in place.

The Wind God Leopard realized that the death’s door was right before its eyes. It struggled violently, opening its jaws and biting down at the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s body.
A crisp snapping sound rang out. A big wound was torn open on the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s crystallized body. Following the burst of strength from the Wind God Leopard, the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s body directly broke in two starting from where the bite wound was, no longer able to lock the Wind God Leopard in place.
At that moment, a scarlet-black sword light tore through the space, slashing ferociously at the Wind God Leopard’s neck where it was already wounded. With a snapping sound, the exotic beast fell.
“My god! What weapon is that?! It can even cut down a high-tier epic-quality beast in two slashes?” Luo Wenjun’s eyes threatened to pop out from their sockets. “This brat is really a freaking monster! Fitted with a body full of top-grade equipment and subdued beasts. Perhaps he might have even more aces hidden up his sleeve!”
With a final miserable cry, the Wind God Leopard’s decapitated head, which had rolled off to the side, took a final look at its child unwillingly. Then it turned into a rainbow streak of light, together with the headless body.
After the two masses of rainbow light came together and quickly condensed, a rainbow card with seven hexagrams on it appeared before Zhang Che’s eyes.
“A seven-star epic-quality beast! What a historic moment!”
Zhang Che felt a surge of emotions. He dispelled the Purple Crystal Armor around himself and took two steps forward, picking up the beast card, then looked at the baby Wind God Leopard laying on the grass, its entire body wet.
Zhang Che’s pupils shrank slightly when he looked at it.
The baby beast’s fur was greenish-black, and its appearance was slightly different from the Wind God Leopard, too.
Zhang Che’s eyes darted about for a moment, and he immediately picked up the baby exotic beast, whose eyes were still unopened, and turned to walk in Luo Wenjun and the others’ direction.
As for the watchers, they were jumping for joy, quickly running towards Zhang Che as well.
“Wahaha, Brother Zhang, you’re too freaking awesome, too awesome!”
Luo Wenjun was speaking gibberish from overexcitement. This was a high-tier epic-quality exotic beast! Although they took advantage of its moment of weakness, it was still very impressive of Zhang Che to slay it!
For at least the past few decades, a mid-tier beastmaster defeating and slaying a high-tier epic-quality beast was unheard of!
It would truly shock everyone if they talked about it!
“It was only luck that I accomplished our mission!” Zhang Che smiled faintly. He brought the seven-star epic-quality beast card to Luo Wenjun.
Luo Wenjun’s face froze for a moment, hints of struggle showing in his gaze for about two seconds. In the end, he pushed Zhang Che’s hand away resolutely and said, “Brother Zhang, it’s almost entirely your own effort that we managed to kill this exotic beast. If I take that beast card in spite of that, I really don’t have the face to show myself in this world if this were to get out. I’d better take the baby beast. In any case, I only have to take care of it patiently for a few years and it’ll probably grow up into an adult.”
Zhang Che shook his head, maintaining his smile. He said, “Big Brother Luo, don’t turn me down. You are the one who gave me the opportunity and brought me here. How can I possibly vie with you over this? Moreover, I’ve only barely reached Tier Five. Who knows how long it will be before I rose to Tier Seven? So, wouldn’t it be better if you take the beast card?”
Seeing the sincere look on Zhang Che, Luo Wenjun no longer declined. He laughed heartily, “Alright, then this brother will accept your favor. I’m at the peak of Tier Six, anyway. I’ll be able to use it right away after rising to Tier Seven!”
Zhang Che heaved a sigh of relief stealthily, holding the rather ugly baby exotic beast in his arms a little tighter.

And it ended thusly just aswell, t'was the great Empire's deathknell. The crackling of the burning books, dangling corpses on rusty hooks. The yellow streets of Heabury proper, colored red with human copper. -? S.V, Scholar of Dawn.' -- Author note: Hi, SeV here. I'm not a fan of writing my entire story premise in the synopsis. For that, read the prologue and chapter 1. Suffice it to say that I think it's a cool idea and I already have a few things planned and a world sort of formed in my mind. I like Epic fantasy, lightnovels with OP MCs, Litrpg, sci-fi, any many other things. This story is written for myself, so it may include all sorts of diffent elements and character interactions and even experimental things that I'm trying out as a writer in order to improve. My intention with this is to pretty much post as I write, and acquire feedback from you folks in the process. I of course hope you like my story, but feel free to criticize anything since this is a project to improve myself. Even if it isn't strictly criticism, any feedback positive or negative is welcome since I am interested in what other people think of my writing style and what I can improve on. Since it's growing generically I'll be interested in your thoughts and speculations on future events and any suggestions moving forward will be taken into consideration. Hope you enjoy my stuff. - SeV
