Chapter 297: Impenetrable Membrane

“What is going on?” Zhang Che was shocked. He hurriedly focused on his spiritual sea, and saw that the scarlet and white swords, which usually acted like they were fish swimming in water, were currently stopped in place, trembling lightly.
This was the first time such a situation had occurred since he obtained the two swords.
He immediately lost all interest in his dinner, and his brow furrowed deeply, not understanding what was happening.
Those two swords couldn’t freaking speak, either, nor did they have legendary spirits dwelling in them. Zhang Che couldn’t make out why they were trembling at all.
However, he was sure that this was definitely not anything good.
Done thinking, a few rays of five-colored lights shot out from his brow. He summoned Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon, Scarlet Flame Drake, and Unicorn.
The secret plane was truly too bizarre; heavens knew what danger was approaching him right now.
After thinking for a bit, Zhang Che also put on the Seven-Star Silver Worm armor. Although its defense was a little weak against powerful enemies, it was better than having nothing on at all.
Not only that, to prevent being trapped in the cave by the unknown enemy, Zhang Che immediately charged out with his beasts.
As a mainly elemental-based subdued beast, the Scarlet Flame Drake’s close combat ability was not to be underestimated. It could be seen from how it spent less than half a minute to dig through the rocks the Purple Crystal Tortoise used to seal the exit.
“Where’s the Purple Crystal Tortoise?” Thinking of that, Zhang Che was reminded of how he was just wondering why that fellow hadn’t come back yet.
Close to an hour had passed. It was still not back!
That subdued beast of his should be fine. Zhang Che would know if it died.
Bad news seemed to be coming one after another. The Purple Crystal Tortoise was missing, and the swords in his spiritual sea were acting strangely. All this left Zhang Che feeling uneasy.
He hurriedly gave an order to the Purple Crystal Tortoise via their spiritual link, to have it quickly return to him no matter what it had discovered. That fellow was an important combat asset, although it might not be very effective against the strange creatures who didn’t fear physical attacks.

However, who would know what this unknown danger was coming from?
Time slowly passed by minutes and seconds. It was already dark outside.
Zhang Che didn’t discover any danger approaching. However, he didn’t dare to relax at all.
A person’s senses might be wrong occasionally, but the scarlet and white swords’ strange movements were definitely not for no reason.
A little while later, the Purple Crystal Tortoise finally showed itself, appearing from the ground at the side.
“Where did you go to? Why are you only back after so long?” Zhang Che glared at the PUrple Crystal Tortoise. The latter stuck out its round head, its eyes looking innocently at Zhang Che, then nodded downwards, gesturing to the ground.
“What do you mean? Is there something good underground?”
Zhang Che’s eyebrows rose. -Could the reason why this fellow went away for so long be because it discovered something really good?-
The Purple Crystal Tortoise shook its head, then nodded.
Zhang Che couldn’t understand it.
Seeing Zhang Che’s confused look, the Purple Crystal Tortoise decided to move instead. Its body sank into the ground, and soon a dark cave entrance appeared before his eyes.
-What does it mean? Shouldn’t it directly bring out whatever good stuff it found to show me? By digging a hole on the ground, does it mean for me to take a look for myself, and that thing can’t be brought out?-
Zhang Che immediately found it strange. He hadn’t encountered anything the Purple Crystal Tortoise couldn’t bring with it.
He strode forward quickly, sticking his head in to take a look inside the hole. He saw the Purple Crystal Tortoise was still hard at work digging down. It seemed that thing was hidden very deep.
The Purple Crystal Tortoise labored diligently, and the hole kept extending down in a spiral.
Zhang Che’s interest grew. He hurriedly led his subdued beasts and pets and jumped into the spiral cave, following the Purple Crystal Tortoise down.
Suddenly, a strange expression showed on Zhang Che’s face for a moment.
The two swords in his spiritual sea started trembling again!
-Could it be that the swords aren’t trembling because they sensed danger, but because they also sensed that there was something good underground?-

Zhang Che’s eyes twinkled.
What level of a treasure could it be if the swords sensed them and trembled like this!?
Zhang Che wasn’t worried about any danger down here. The Purple Crystal Tortoise had gone down earlier; if there was danger, naturally it would have informed him.
—
Going forward, Zhang Che felt like he was walking through an endless spiral. He was starting to feel dizzy from turning round and round, but the Purple Crystal Tortoise was still digging down.
“Damn it, little tortoise, tell your daddy how much further we have to go down to see that treasure? It’s already been a kilometer or so, and you’re still digging!”
The Purple Crystal Tortoise turned around and nodded at Zhang Che, then continued to dig, dig, and dig diligently…
Zhang Che had no choice. He could only suppress his curiosity in him and continue following it down.
In his spiritual sea, the two swords were trembling more and more violently, as if they were installed with electrical motors, shaking endlessly.
-We should be reaching it soon,- Zhang Che thought to himself.
Alas, he was too naive.
The Purple Crystal Tortoise continued digging down tirelessly. In the end, Zhang Che didn’t even know how far he had been walking down. Even with his current physique, he was starting to feel tired and sleepy, and yet the end of this spiral was still not in sight.
“I can’t, I can’t anymore. Let’s rest for a bit. It looks like there’s no end to this.”
Zhang Che truly couldn’t take this anymore and sat down on the ground, leaning back against the smooth rocks. He shut his eyes and finally fell asleep.
————
When he woke up, there was only the fiery light coming from the Scarlet Flame Drake’s body. He didn’t know what time it was, or how far the spiral tunnel had extended. It seemed like the Purple Crystal Tortoise didn’t rest at all.
“Let’s continue down, then. I want to see exactly what is hiding so deep in the ground.”
In his spiritual sea, the two swords were trembling even more violently. After thinking for a bit, Zhang Che decided to summon them and cut off the mysterious spiritual link with them. The two swords turned into two streaks of light, red and white, and quickly shot down.
Finally, Zhang Che saw the Purple Crystal Tortoise. It had stopped at the end of the tunnel, not digging any more, while the two swords were similarly stopped at the side, flying back and forth like impatient people.
“What good stuff is it? Let me see…”
Zhang Che quickly ran down, a look of joy on his face.
At the bottom of the tunnel dug out by the Purple Crystal Turtoise, a mass of weak light, giving off an extremely mysterious feeling, instantly entered his sight.
He immediately rushed over and extended his arm out, reaching for that mass of light. Afterwards, he felt like his hands were touching an extremely rubbery membrane, and were blocked off from it.
“Could it be that this treasure actually has a natural layer of protection?” Zhang Che grew even more surprised. No wonder the Purple Crystal Tortoise was unable to bring this back after discovering it. It seemed like this thing was sure to be extraordinary!
He glanced towards the pair of swords at the side, then recalled them back into his spiritual sea with a wave of his hand. Afterwards, he summoned the scarlet sword, directing it to stab at the layer of membrane.
The scarlet sword tool shot forth like lightning, instantly stabbing into the membrane. A flash of light suddenly erupted. Zhang Che felt like the scarlet sword had let out a sad cry as it bounced off at an even faster speed, directly leaving small cracks on the thick rock wall behind.
Zhang Che’s eyeballs nearly popped out from their sockets.
This thing was actually so strong that even the scarlet sword couldn’t pierce through it!
