Chapter 279: Another Form of Strange Creature?
Translator: Exodus Tales Editor: Exodus Tales
Edited by Aelryinth
On Mercury, at the icy plains where the Hua Xia and the Er Sha region intersected…
Near the surroundings of the huge golden ball of light that was the gateway to the secret plane, beastmasters could still be seen passing through the obstacles and stepping into the gateway like moths attracted to a flame.
According to past experience, the gateway to the secret plane would remain for about two weeks after its first appearance. In other words, even if some beastmasters were still fighting with exotic beasts in the surrounding area of a thousand kilometers radius, they would still have two to three days’ time to enter the secret plane.
Of course, about four days had passed since the first dissolving of the defensive perimeter. Basically all the stronger beastmasters had already crossed the gateway, leaving only a tiny fraction behind.
Even the related departments from the government of various countries and armies were no longer paying as much attention as the first few days. Some of the satellites weren’t even watching here, and had switched targets to some other places.
——
In the secret world, Zhang Che was lying in his sleeping bag, his face radiating a satisfied smile.
In his dreams, he finally found the scarlet streak of light and successfully captured it.
To his surprise, it turned out that the scarlet streak of light was actually an ancient godly weapon. A single slash with it could split the heavens and earth!
Zhang Che was wild with joy. From then on, wielding that godly sword, he cleared the beast worlds one by one, slaying all the powerful exotic beasts within. The once-a-decade beast horde could no longer threaten the survival of humanity in Mercury.
Billions of people prostrated themselves to Zhang Che, worshipping him as a god.
Meanwhile, he explored deeper into the beast worlds resolutely, to find out why these mysterious worlds were descending upon Mercury.
It was only when the Scarlet Flame Drake barked out furiously that Zhang Che’s dreams suddenly collapsed, waking him up as he opened his eyes.
“You little doggie, what are you barking so loudly for? Don’t you know it’s not even mor-ack!”

Zhang Che finally had a good dream and was forcibly interrupted by this beast, annoying him. He quickly crawled up from his sleeping bag, reprimanding the Scarlet Flame Drake at his side.
Before he could finish his words, however, he blanked out on the spot and cried out in shock. A moment later, he directly Summoned out the Purple Crystal Tortoise and the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon with a wave of his hand.
“Shit, how did this thing get in here!?”
The Scarlet Flame Drake was running around in the cave, shooting flames out of its body from time to time, chasing after a scarlet streak of light that had appeared here without anyone realizing.
Wasn’t this thing the scarlet streak of light Zhang Che saw flying in the sky extremely far away, which fell in this area this evening?!
-Nice! I went searching for you for half a day to no avail, and here you are, showing up by yourself!-
Under the Scarlet Flame Drake’s chasing, the scarlet streak of light was running all over desperately, seemingly very afraid of the flames on the Scarlet Flame Drake’s body.
“Strange, since this thing is so scared of the Scarlet Flame Drake, why is it trying so hard to run around in here? Why didn’t it just escape?” Zhang Che wondered. With this streak of scarlet light’s speed, there was no way he could catch up to it if it really wanted to escape.
-Unless…- Zhang Che suddenly thought of a problem. Could it be that this thing was a mysterious treasure in the secret world that would randomly pick an owner after being born?
Zhang Che, who had read all kinds of Xianxia novels in his past life, immediately grew excited.
If that was true, he’d really struck gold this time!
But would an object that could pick its own master be simple?
Although… he didn’t know what exactly this streak of scarlet light was.
Done thinking, Zhang Che’s eyes narrowed, following the scarlet light that was being chased down by the Scarlet Flame Drake with his gaze, wanting to see what exactly it was.
However, the layer of scarlet light was too dense. It was like a layer of burning blood was enveloping it, leaving Zhang Che unable to see what was inside.

Not only that, after sensing Zhang Che’s focused gaze, the streak of scarlet light suddenly flew straight towards Zhang Che. He got so scared that he quickly dropped to the ground.
Although he had guessed that the thing was possibly some kind of treasure, he didn’t dare to let it get close to him. If that thing turned out to be some cursed object, wouldn’t he suffer a great loss?
As a loyal watchdog, how could the Scarlet Flame Drake allow that streak of scarlet light to rush up to its master?
It opened its mouth, breathing out flames at the streak of scarlet light.
Although it only shot a small tongue of flames, the streak of scarlet light was scared silly regardless. It quickly changed direction, circling around the cave.
“How reliable, my little doggie!” Zhang Che heaved a sigh of relief. More doubts rose in his mind, however.
After pondering deeply for a while with furrowed brows, Zhang Che gave an order to the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon at the side.
As the streak of scarlet light dodged another tongue of flames shooting towards it, the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon suddenly opened his mouth and spat out a stream of darkfiend frozen air at it, sealing its escape route.
There was nowhere the streak of scarlet light could escape to, and it could only run into the mass of frozen air.
In the next moment, the streak of scarlet light suddenly let out a soundless miserable neigh, which directly penetrated Zhang Che’s spiritual sea, causing a slight stabbing pain in his head.
Zhang Che was astonished. -What the heck was that!?-
Luckily, he didn’t allow that streak of scarlet light to get close to him, like in those Xianxia novels. Otherwise, it would be hard to say if he’d still be alive now!
Without a doubt, it was impossible that the streak of scarlet light was some kind of treasure, but a kind of existence similar to those strange creatures, although its form was different.
Zhang Che didn’t forget how those strange creatures would let out soundless miserable screams that penetrated his spiritual sea when he killed them.
The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s darkfiend frozen air was evidently able to cause a great deal of damage to this thing, too. This had also indirectly proved that this streak of scarlet light was possibly a different form of strange creatures. Just as it charged into the stream of frozen air, its speed lowered by a large margin, and the scarlet glow around it that resembled burning blood immediately dimmed down, finally revealing its true appearance underneath.
“Eh..?” Zhang Che couldn’t help but widen his eyes in surprise after seeing its true appearance, despite confirming that this thing was another form of the strange creatures.
It was actually a sheathless sword with an extremely simple appearance. Although a layer of bloody light enveloped its entire body, Zhang Che immediately recognized the obvious shape of the sword hilt and blade.
-It really is a sword!-
-How could this be?-
Zhang Che felt as if he had been slapped in the face. Just moments ago, he was still figuring that this thing was probably a different strange creature, and now it had directly revealed its true appearance, overturning his conjecture.
-But this doesn’t make any sense, either. What about that soundless miserable neigh earlier?-
Zhang Che felt like his brain was overwhelmed.
After getting hit by the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s frozen air, the sword enveloped by the layer of bloody light slowed down greatly. Facing the follow up pincer attack from the Scarlet Flame Drake and Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon, it had no way of escaping.
Whoosh! A tongue of flames shot out from the Scarlet Flame Drake’s mouth once more. The long sword couldn’t dodge any more, and was directly engulfed in the flames.
-It’s coming!,- Zhang Che thought to himself. As expected, in the next moment, the soundless miserable neigh rang out again, and was several times stronger than before, directly penetrating his spiritual sea, making him feel as if his brain was swelling and a spell of dizziness cast on him.

Death Cultivator (Cultivator in Another World Vol. I & II)
Fight for your Soul. New cultivator Grady Hake thought his problems would disappear when he became a member of the strongest gang on the prison planet, but all it did was thrust him into the kill-or-be-killed world of the Eight-Legged Dragons. Now if he wants to survive, he’ll have to learn to cloak his deadly Spirit attacks in shadow, control the ancient revenant trying to take over his mind, and defeat the Angel of Death who dropped him on Van Diemann in the first place. Death Cultivator is sci-fi / isekai / wuxia / western / whatever, sort of like Borderlands meets Hunter x Hunter. I wanted to write something entertaining and actiony with that shonen vibe, so here's hoping this hits the spot. Warning: This isn't an isekai where the MC immediately becomes OP and starts revenge-killing everyone once he gets Death powers. Death is coming, but it's a slow burn. Like some of the reviewers for Volume I mentioned, the MC has a past and it effects his actions and choices in the new world.

Connections to another world opened up. Humans with powers made of the wildest imaginations, stepped out of them, calling themselves cultivators. Naturally, earth’s population went into an uproar. One piece of information created an especially great stir. The cultivators were there to pick disciples. Millions rushed to them, and Blair wanted to be one of them. There was just one problem. His lord father was strictly against interaction with those magical beings. He always dreaded a foreign power gaining influence in his court. Well, the old man never changes, and now it was the same as ever. His sister wasn´t even allowed to study abroad. However, all his senses told Blair that the future lay in the cultivator's hands. His plan was to gain knowledge, power, and maybe influence. Then he would return. One night he simply vanished in the darkness, away from his father’s claws. Will he succeed? That is hard to tell. The immortal world is an unforgiving place, even worse than earth. It’s just that Blair doesn’t know that yet. Can he survive there, and gain a footing in the new era of qi and godly hermits? Only time will tell, and Blair has to fight for every minute. Authors note: Give the story a try. It’s my personal blend of qi, cultivation, and struggles of morality and power. If I can deliver on all that is another question, but I will give it my best. As a further note, I am not using any of the usual strict realms and extreme power differences. It’s more about gathering and refining qi. Whoever uses his chances, sneak attacks, intuitions, and skills in a better way wins. However, having more or better qi will help, but I am not at a point where I have written a lot of that, so I might promise too much. Thanks for reading so far and checking my synopsis out, now you might give the story a try. Have fun. The picture is from JCK5D (Pixabay)

The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.
