Chapter 219: Levelling in Peace

The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon quickly flew higher. The giant stone man underneath let out another furious roar, and threw another huge rock spear at them.
However, the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon had escaped the invisible gravity field. His speed rose sharply, closing in on Mach One. Although the rock spear was extremely fast, it barely scratched the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s side and continued shooting higher into the air.
Zhang Che turned his head back and took a long look at the giant stone man on the peak of the mountain. A peculiar glint of light shone in his eyes, before he directed the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon to chase in the direction the Poison Fire Twin-Headed Dragon had left in.
It was embarrassing to even speak about; he was actually set up by an exotic beast!
If he hadn’t reacted in time, wouldn’t he have lost his life to that terrifying giant stone man?
The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon directly brought out his fastest speed. Less than a minute later, the Poison Fire Twin-Headed Dragon was back within his sight.
“Hah, let’s see how you escape this time!” Zhang Che let out an angry chuckle, directing the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon to chase straight towards it.
The Poison Fire Twin-Headed Dragon originally thought that it had gotten its revenge. However, only a short while later, the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon was back in its pursuit, scaring it greatly. It beat its wings with all its might, trying to escape as quickly as possible.
It was only now the Poison Fire Twin-Headed Dragon realized that while it was setting Zhang Che up, he was similarly setting it up. He wanted to follow it back to its nest and get both of the dragons in one fell swoop.
As the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon flew at his fastest, the distance between both parties drew closer and closer. Zhang Che could already see the Poison Fire Twin-Headed Dragon’s contours clearly.

Realizing that there was no escape, the Poison Fire Twin-Headed Dragon decided to reuse its old trick, drawing an arc in the air and flew back towards the mountain range with scarce vegetation from earlier.
“Do you think it’ll still work?” Zhang Che smiled in disdain. A five-colored ray of light shot out from between his brow. The Purple Crystal Tortoise appeared on the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s back.
“Shoot it down!”
Currently, the distance between them was only a few hundred meters. The Purple Crystal Tortoise’s supersonic spear attack could reach it in an instant.
The Purple Crystal Tortoise’s round head peeked out and aimed at the Poison Fire Twin-Headed Dragon ahead. It opened its mouth wide and silently shot a bone spike.
Just as the Poison Fire Twin-Headed Dragon sensed the danger, a bowl-sized hole appeared on its left head before it could make any evasive maneuvers. The tremendous pain left it unable to maintain its balance, spinning down to the mountains underneath.
Zhang Che took note of the direction the bone spike flew to, then ordered the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon to continue chasing, “Chase it down!”
The Poison Fire Twin-Headed Dragon, having lost its balance, suddenly slowed down by a large margin. The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon caught up in a flash, exhaling a mouthful of deep blue frosty air at it.
How could the Poison Fire Twin-Headed Dragon possibly dodge the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon’s attack after losing its balance? It took a direct hit. A thin layer of dark ice crystals formed instantly, enveloping its body. Its thin wings could no longer move, and its huge figure fell straight down.
Although it was over a hundred meters above ground, Zhang Che didn’t believe falling at this height would kill a six-star dark gold-quality beast.
The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon dove down in pursuit, while the Purple Crystal Tortoise found another opportunity and shot another bone spike at it.
Another bang rang out. A hole was punched through the Poison Fire Twin-Headed Dragon’s other head. Its huge figure turned into a glow of light, condensing into a dark golden card, floating down.

“Hah, I finally got you!”
The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon quickly flew down. They caught up to the beast card in just a few seconds, and Zhang Che caught the beast card in his hand.

========
The beast card’s type was well within Zhang Che’s expectation. It was the most common type, an Original Combat Body.
Although, it would be really weird and surprising if another type showed up on this kind of exotic beasts whose attributes were mainly for battle.
“Not bad. It can be considered a beast card with outstanding attributes.” Zhang Che nodded with a faint smile. The Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon quickly landed. The Purple Crystal Tortoise quickly ran off to search for the two bone spikes it shot out.
Those things were extremely valuable; naturally Zhang Che would not allow them to be lost just like that.
While waiting for the Purple Crystal Tortoise to retrieve the bone spikes, Zhang Che sat quietly on a rock, recalling the giant stone man they encountered earlier.
There was no doubt that the giant stone man’s level and quality had exceeded his imagination. Zhang Che wasn’t sure whether it was a divine-tier beast, but it definitely wasn’t something his subdued beasts and pets could handle.
“Luckily we were in the sky this time. If we had accidentally walked into that area instead, I’m afraid we wouldn’t have escaped…” Zhang Che finally felt the dangers of these lands.
Originally, he thought that with the Darkfiend Abyssal Dragon, Purple Crystal Tortoise, and Steel-Armored Tyrannosaurus, he was sure even if he couldn’t act without constraints in this area, he could retreat safely no matter the situation. From the looks of it now, that seemed to be a joke.
Although there weren’t many dangerous places, they definitely existed. That giant stone man was a perfect example.
Although Zhang Che didn’t know whether it was a skill or whatever, that terrifying gravity field’s might had left his scalp feeling numb. The destructive power of the rock spears it threw was also extremely devastating. Perhaps none of his babies, with the exception of the Purple Crystal Tortoise, could withstand them.
-Hmm? If the Purple Crystal Tortoise could withstand it, doesn’t that mean that the giant stoneman isn’t a divine-tier exotic beast?- Thinking of that, Zhang Che’s complexion grew even uglier.
-Looking at it now, there is at least another quality tier between legend and divine.
-If there are more of such exotic beasts in these endless mountains, I can’t afford to move so carelessly in the future.-
“It seems like I’d better stick to hunting four and five-star exotic beasts around the mountains where the ferocious beast’s skeleton is, raise my beastmaster tier to Tier Five, and then find my way out of here.” Zhang Che decided to behave himself and spend his time levelling up.
He didn’t want to encounter any more powerful exotic beasts like that giant stone man. It truly was a little too dangerous!

NOTE: I, as an 'author' am on a(n) (indefinite?) Hiatus. Without getting into too many details, the person who convinced me to write, who was my muse and my everything, is no longer in my life. I think about writing and I get physically ill and ache in ways that transcend the physical. I want to want to write, but I cannot find the energy. Life events, combined with apparently thin-skin when it comes to personal attacks on this platform, make it impossible for me. The messages, comments, and reviews I recieve(d) were so detrimental to my mental health that I've already removed one story from this website. This one remains up only because the criticisms located in this work are about my writing, and not personal attacks.I just felt like I should put something out there for anyone who is thinking about starting this story. It is not completed. I don't know that it ever will be at this point. I have lost my muse.- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -Not everything in this world is natural, and it's only natural to fear the unnatural. Fortunately for Manning, he was natural. A Fractal Divide
Lesivar is a city in ascendancy. With recent innovations in magical crafting, the common people are experiencing a boom in comfort and wealth. The nobility, long used to being the stewards of knowledge and power, struggle to adapt to the new world in which they find themselves. A precarious balance has been maintained throughout, but forces stir beneath the surface threatening to send the city spiraling into chaos. This is my first attempt at writing anything longer than a short story, and I welcome any feedback or corrections. I'm posting this as I write, with each chapter going live upon completion. My current pace is about a chapter a day, which I expect to take my through the end of November. From there, I'm shooting for a chapter every two-three days until the book is completed, along with an editing pass of what is already up. I'm planning on three POV characters with unique insight into the story as it unfolds. Each chapter will contain only one POV. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]
