Chapter 209: Spear Thrower
Translator: Exodus Tales Editor: Exodus Tales
Edited by Aelryinth
“Right, this is a bone spike!” Zhang Che’s eyes gradually lit up as he carefully examined the tip of the gigantic needle.
Although the exterior of the gigantic needle and its density was like a metal, and it even had the luster, the tip still had many unnoticeable tiny holes.
Wasn’t this a characteristic unique to bones!?
Since this wasn’t a metallic object, but a bone spike, its origin was self-explanatory.
Zhang Che turned to look at the enormous skeleton at the side. He dropped the bone spike in his hand and climbed up the back of the skeleton, using his hands and feet.
After climbing up to the spine of the ferocious beast’s skeleton, Zhang Che looked over it for a short while before he burst out into laughter uncontrollably.
On the spine of the ferocious beast’s skeleton were two neat rows of fist-sized holes, closely positioned together.
“One, two, three… ninety-five, ninety-six… a hundred and seven, a hundred and eight!” Zhang Che counted twice to make sure, and confirmed from the holes on the skeleton’s back numbered a total of a hundred and eight!
“I’m rich, I’m rich, this time I’ve really struck it rich!”
Although he had yet to test the bone spike’s attack strength, Zhang Che had no doubts that they were invaluable.
He wondered how many times more valuable the bone spike was compared to a pile of scarlet meteorite ore of the same weight.
To find that out, he’d immediately know the answer by going through some tests!
Zhang Che directly jumped off the skeleton’s back. He picked up the two-meters-plus bone spike on the ground and held it in reverse grip. Afterwards, he ran a short distance and using the momentum, threw the bone spike with all his strength.
A golden afterimage shot through the air in an instant, flying several dozen meters out, penetrating deep into a cliff at the side of the platform. It left a deep, dark hole about the size of a bowl on the outside.
“What the heck!” Zhang Che’s mouth opened wide in disbelief at the result.
Although that bone spike weighed close to two hundred and fifty kilograms, and Zhang Che’s strength had reached an inhuman degree, would any ordinary metallic spear stab so deeply into a cliff that it disappeared?

That was absolutely impossible!
This went to show that the bone spikes on the ferocious beast’s back simply had astonishing penetrating ability!
“It seems like I have to practice spear throwing now.”
After seeing the bone spike’s ridiculous attack strength, Zhang Che’s thoughts immediately became active. If he could increase his spear throwing accuracy, he would have a powerful long distance attack!
“But my strength is still a little lacking. The bone spike weighed around two hundred and fifty kilograms, after all. The greatest range I could achieve with it is only around a hundred meters.”
Of course, increasing his strength wasn’t something he could be hasty about.
At this moment, the Purple Crystal Tortoise appeared at Zhang Che’s side coincidentally. It opened his mouth, ready to spit out all the rocks in its “stomach” onto the enormous skeleton.
“Stop, stop, stop!” Zhang Che hurried stopped its action, waving his hands. Afterwards, he had the Purple Crystal Tortoise spit out the rocks to the side for now and pointed at the bone dust under the skeleton, instructing it, “Here, here, clean up the bone dust.”
The Purple Crystal Tortoise nodded. It opened its mouth, and an invisible suction was born from within, like a whale sucking in water, quickly swallowing all the bone dust on the ground.
The bone dust disappeared entirely. The other bone spikes were revealed before Zhang Che. He hurriedly ran up and gathered the scattered bone spikes. Counting them, there were exactly a hundred and seven of them.
“One hundred and eight; what a good number!”
Looking at the pile of bone spikes placed neatly next to the skeleton, Zhang Che felt a sense of satisfaction welling up in him.
“Ugh, right, there’s still one more in the cliff.”
Zhang Che quickly waved his hand at the Purple Crystal Tortoise, instructing it to dig into the cliff from the hole he created. He wanted to see how far did the bone spike penetrate into the cliff, allowing him to have a better idea of its might.
It was simply the Purple Crystal Tortoise’s natural talent when it came to mining, digging, and these sorts of things. It didn’t even take a minute before Zhang Che saw the bone spike lodged deep in the cliff.
The small hole dug out by the Purple Crystal Tortoise was about a meter deep. It didn’t seem much; its might was far from comparable to an armor-piercing round.

However, this was done by a man’s throw!
Moreover, Zhang Che’s strength was a little insufficient when he was using a two hundred and fifty kilogram bone spike. If his strength could reach the level of the Steel-Armored Tyrannosaurus, the bone spike he threw out would definitely contain astonishingly high power.
“Right, I wonder what would it be like if the frisky monkey used this thing?” Zhang Che’s eyes rolled about, suddenly thinking of the frisky monkey, who lost all his attacking capability after his bow.
“Zhizhizhizhi…” the frisky monkey cried out loudly the moment he was summoned. This fellow was really growing to dislike staying put in Zhang Che’s spiritual sea, wanting to come out at every moment.
As expected, this was the nature of a monkey…
After hearing Zhang Che’s instructions, the frisky monkey immediately bent his body and picked up a bone spike. Afterwards, he followed Zhang Che’s pointers and held it in reverse grip, throwing it forward.
With a “chi” sound, a fist-sized hole appeared on the ground about a dozen meter in front of the frisky monkey…
Zhang Che covered his face with his palm. -Alright, looks like there are things the frisky monkey can’t do.
-It doesn’t matter. This guy excels at using a bow and arrow, anyway. I’ll just get another one custom made for him after we get out of the beast world.
-According to the frisky monkey’s current strength, getting a one thousand kilogram draw weight bow shouldn’t be too much, right? The attack range and power would be unimaginable!-
Now, Zhang Che wasn’t in a hurry to bury the ferocious beast’s skeleton. With this thing here, this platform was simply the safest location on the mountain. By using this place as his base, he could sleep peacefully at night.
He wasn’t rushing to get back home now; he still wanted to increase his beastmaster tier to Tier Five first, and practice his spear throwing skills. Without raising his accuracy to a certain degree, this skill was useless.
“It’s been a long time since I had meat… Let’s have a barbeque party on this platform tonight!”
The moment he thought about eating meat, two verdant glints immediately shone in Zhang Che’s eyes. He didn’t want to wait a moment longer; he brought his babies and headed for the nearby mountain summit.
Perhaps it was due to the ferocious beast’s skeleton being on this majestic mountain summit, but there weren’t any overly powerful exotic beasts in this area except for the two Poison Fire Twin-Headed Dragons from before.
Zhang Che easily hunted down a large, wild boar-like exotic beast that weighed over a ton.
Afterwards, he found a stream formed from a few mountain springs at the foot of this majestic mountain. Zhang Che cleaned up the corpse of this boar-like exotic beast, and finally started a bright bonfire in this beast world for the first time in a few days.
When the wild boar meat, cut into a few smaller pieces, was fully cooked, Zhang Che looked back and saw the frisky monkey, Cold Abyss Flood Dragon, and the Steel-Armored Tyrannosaurus sending him pitiful verdant gazes.
“Okay, looks like this wild boar isn’t enough for all of us…” Zhang Che sighed. He had no choice but to have the Steel-Armored Tyrannosaurus, whose appetite was the biggest, endure for now, while he, the frisky monkey, and the Cold Abyss Flood Dragon started to wolf down the meat.
The Steel-Armored Tyrannosaurus was depressed! -I was the one who caught the prey. Why am I the one left out when it’s time to eat? Is it because I joined the group later than those two guys?
-Unfair, this is too unfair!-
Seeing Zhang Che and the others eating until their mouths were covered with grease, the Steel-Armored Tyrannosaurus couldn’t resist opening its mouth in envy. Saliva flowed out of it like a spring, forming a big puddle on the ground.
Zhang Che was greatly amused at the sight. He picked up a piece of roasted meat and tossed it in the Steel-Armored Tyrannosaurus’s direction, saying, “Eat, eat. There’s only this one piece. You have to go hunt another exotic beast later.”
The Steel-Armored Tyrannosaurus quickly reached out, his mouth wide open, and caught the entire piece of roasted meat that weighed a few hundred kilograms in his mouth. He chewed it down into a mash with just a few bites and swallowed it down with a mouthful of saliva. Afterwards, his eyes turned completely green.
Unfortunately, the remaining roasted meat was only enough to fill up their stomachs, leaving none for him.
The Steel-Armored Tyrannosaurus was in anguish. -I should have just endured it…-

This was my entry for National Novel Writing Month, because why only write one series at a time? The more the merrier! (meanwhile, my keyboard bursts into flames...) I'm also the writer of The Last Science, an ongoing low-fantasy/speculative sci-fi series. If you're familiar with that, you know what to expect here: lots of character-focused drama and dialogue, not a whole lot of traditional action. However, I'm writing a bit differently than usual here, and in a very different structure, so there should be some surprises for returning readers. I hope you enjoy it! [Discord] — for those of you who want to hang out and chat. Cover art (fullsize): Path of Revelation, by taenaron (Tobias Roetsch), modified by Etzoli. Normally I like to do my own cover art from scratch, but I was in a rush for the contest. Might be replaced down the line if I get time. The Other - a (man) called Ted
A figure, large and present through time in ways most would not understand. Seemingly uncaring about all except his own principles, the one we refer to as the Other (for legitimate reasons, lest some accidentally call upon his old name), finds his way through life. Though refusing to claim the title himself, this (immortal)'s projects have begun to leave him behind, awaiting some accident to move him back into the world. - - - - - - Initially intended to be a novella, then a project to keep me sane in busy times IRL, this will be considered the roughest of drafts. Also, IRL may prevent me from regular updates after the backlog is done. Tags with a grain of salt, items may be mentioned briefly in story so far, or in chapters already written but not published. Content warnings just in case. Some perspective switching in the first several chapters. Legitimately though, in the first chapters an explanation is provided for referencing to the MC as 'the Other.'
