Chapter 147: A Carpet That Snatches Food

Although Zhang Che didn’t gain much in terms of beast cards for four consecutive days, the Fiery Scorpion’s successful advance still brightened his mood considerably.
Zhang Che, being in a great mood, actually shared half of his roasted exotic beast meat marinated with salt generously with the frisky monkey.
You could only imagine how touched the frisky monkey was!
This fellow was so scared that his master daddy would take back the roasted meat, he held onto it tightly with both hands, chomping down on it. Its mouth, which wasn’t so big to begin with, was widened to the limits, shocking anyone who saw it. His mouth opened so wide that half of his ugly face was hidden from sight.
“What a poor fellow… I have to bring more spices and salt the next time I enter the beast world. Just look at you…” Zhang Che shook his head, laughing at the frisky monkey’s shocking appearance.
Turning his head around, Zhang Che saw the resentful look on the Cold Abyss Flood Dragon’s face. Zhang Che’s face stiffened, and he tossed the roasted meat that he had already brought to his mouth to his other pet.
“Forget it. I’m in a good mood today. At the most I won’t eat any salt for the next few days.”
The excited Cold Abyss Flood Dragon instantly twisted his body, shuffling forward to pick up the roasted meat and munching on it.
Watching his pets eating happily, although Zhang Che’s stomach was rumbling in protest, his face showed a joyful smile. He looked at the frisky monkey and yelled at him, “Start working once you’re done! I haven’t even got to eat anything myself!”
“Uo… zhi.. wu…” The frisky monkey’s mouth was filled with meat. He cried out ambiguously, acknowledging Zhang Che’s words.
Zhang Che rolled his eyes helplessly. Afterwards, he remembered something to be excited about. It seemed like the frisky monkey was also almost due for advancement!
He quickly calculated with the help of his fingers, before revealing a faint smile. It had been fourteen days since the frisky monkey became his pet!

According to the requirement of fifteen days for advancement from bronze to silver-quality, this fellow would rise to silver-quality tomorrow, if nothing went wrong!
Zhang Che was looking forward to this.
At present, the frisky monkey could draw the Falling Star Model X easily. He was sure to gain a boost in strength after his quality rose to silver. Didn’t that mean that he could draw a stronger bow then? It went without saying!
Regrettably, the Falling Star Model X seemed to be the best bow found in Ci Zhou City’s Shooting Sun Research Institute. It was impossible for them to continue developing recurve bows that had a higher draw weight, because no one could use it! How could they possibly sell the product?
As for compound bows, they were expensive, and had slow firing rates. Zhang Che would never consider them.
“Then, if I have some spare time after I get back, should I go to the Shooting Sun Research Institute to order a custom-made one?”
This idea was indeed very tempting. Zhang Che was already fantasizing about it. How destructive would it be if the frisky monkey was equipped with a powerful bow with a draw weight of a thousand kilograms?
Even a three-star dark gold-quality beast would be suffer damage from it, right? And this was only at silver-quality. With the frisky monkey’s B-Rank potential, his limit was advancing to dark gold-quality. If he had a powerful bow that matched his strength at that time, would the arrows he fired break the sound barrier?
The possibility definitely existed!
———–
Another day flew by. It was already the fourteenth of June in the blink of an eye.
As he was anticipating the frisky monkey’s advancement, Zhang Che didn’t let him out of his spiritual sea to prevent any accidents. Instead, he ordered the frisky monkey to stay quietly in there and wait for the moment to arrive.
As for his breakfast, there was nothing to worry about. Wasn’t there the Cold Abyss Flood Dragon?
That fellow only needed to breathe out a mouthful of arctic breath to hunt the low level and quality herbivore beasts, turning them into sculptures of ice. It was even more effective than the frisky monkey’s arrows.

Seeing this, Zhang Che’s imagination immediately ran wild.
This was simply an all-natural, electricity-free refrigerator. He only had to command the Cold Abyss Flood Dragon to let out a breath of air to keep whatever he wanted at low temperatures.
Today, Zhang Che continued expanding his activity area along one side of the outskirts of the mountain range.
He swept his way through several kilometers, and slew close to a hundred exotic beasts. He gained about two dozen beast cards from this.
To his surprise, he discovered that his luck had finally changed for the better!
In just half a day’s work, he obtained a gold-quality beast card.
The only regrettable part was that the level of this beast card was a little too low. It was only a one-star card, not to mention it’s potential being at the most worthless E-Rank. There wasn’t any value in nurturing it.
Zhang Che was still very happy about this, regardless.
Even if he couldn’t use it, he could gift it to Miss Tienan!
At this moment, Zhang Che decided that he would be responsible for providing Miss Tienan with all the beast cards she’d be using. Whatever quality she wanted, she’d have them. Same went for the type and species. Now that he had a strong army of subdued beasts and pets behind him, Zhang Che truly had the capacity to do that!
After the past few days of large-scale hunting, Zhang Che could sense that he was getting closer and closer to Tier Four. If his estimations were right, by tomorrow he would be witnessing the Scarlet Flame Drake’s magni… uhm, right, that fellow’s body was burnt black from lightning strikes when he killed it. He had yet to see its original appearance.
-Hmm hmm, I only hope that it’s not too ugly. I remember how that fellow’s cry was just like a dog’s. Its appearance wouldn’t be like one, too, would it? – Zhang Che doubted that deeply…
——
Another half a day passed. There still wasn’t anything unusual happening in his spiritual sea. There were no signs of the frisky monkey advancing.
Zhang Che wasn’t anxious, however, because his attention was attracted by a small to mid-sized herbivore beast at this moment.
This exotic beast was called a White-Bum Deer. Its level and quality couldn’t get any worse, but its characteristics left Zhang Che salivating.
“Characteristics: Exquisite Texture, Tastes Delicious. Favored By All Predators.”
Zhang Che simply didn’t dare to believe his eyes when he first saw the characteristics. -Is it freaking joking with me? It even introduces whether an exotic beast is delicious or not?-
However, after taking a second, and even a third look at it, Zhang Che had to admit that what he saw was true.
As such, he immediately grew excited. The Cold Abyss Flood Dragon quickly rode the clouds and gave chase to it as Zhang Che commanded.
Although the White-Bum Deer’s strength was nothing worth mentioning, its running ability caught Zhang Che’s attention. When it sensed danger, it immediately dashed out like lightning, the Cold Abyss Flood Dragon taking a good several seconds to catch up to it.
Seeing his prey right before his eyes, the Cold Abyss Flood Dragon raised his head back, taking a deep breath, and then…
There was nothing after that.
When the White-Bum Deer ran to a gap under a cliff and was about to escape into it, a furry carpet suddenly flew out from within and wrapped itself around the White-Bum Deer, snatching the Cold Abyss Flood Dragon’s prey right under his nose.
“What strange species is this!?”
Zhang Che was annoyed. He actually encountered something that snatched his food from him…
The Cold Abyss Flood Dragon was even more furious. – What wild species are you, to actually steal something from me, a being from the royal bloodline of a dragon? Are you looking down on me?-
Enraged, the Cold Abyss Flood Dragon spat out the arctic breath brewing in his mouth at the “carpet”, which hadn’t had time to make its escape yet.
However, the carpet actually wasn’t affected by the Cold Abyss Flood Dragon’s breath attack, and directly rolled deep into the gap under the cliff, disappearing from Zhang Che’s sight.
All of this happened too suddenly. Zhang Che barely managed to catch a glimpse of the carpet’s attributes…

His old life aboard the Valkyrie, an interstellar destroyer has also been replaced as he finds his new body in an unknown world. Where he learns of magic, skills, the system, helhorses, and slinging lead with ancient revolvers. Initially, he is skeptical of his new norm but the desire to survive leads him to try to earn a living while he figures out what just happened to his life. He's a fighter but far from the elite, a grunt with some experience. But what better way than to fall back to what he's familiar with, weapons and going after criminals and rebels. With the added challenges of monsters. This is my first Litrpg writing. It's a wild west fantasy setting with the MC taking a role as a gun-slinging bounty hunter in a world of magic and monsters. Hope you enjoy it. UPDATES AT 3PM EST ON MONDAYS AND THURSDAYS! Warning. The story has a slow start because I'm trying to keep my MC realistic. It takes him some time to adjust to his new surroundings, start to make some friends, and really get into the swing of it. I kind of think it's dumb when an isekai's MC manages to blink twice and suddenly adapts to their new world without any sort of struggle or learning period. So not doing that but don't worry Will may be confused and a bit unfocused at first but he'll grow into his own. Also using it to practice my digital artwork... which is far from par but improving. Keep an eye on author notes for maps and depictions of monsters and characters.
