Chapter 123: Chapter 123 – It’s Time to Pick Up Scraps!

The flying tiger was like a hardworking gardener, going back and forth as it transported pieces of meat to the side of the huge vines. Even with its astonishing speed, it spent several minutes before delivering all of them.
The huge vines seemed to be cheering as a huge amount of flesh and blood was offered to them. Each of the vines crawled over quickly, devouring the food almost instantly the moment it was delivered.
Zhang Che was unsure whether he was imagining things, but he felt like the huge flower seemed like someone who had been starved for three days and nights suddenly given food, giving off a satisfied response.
“I must be seeing things!” Zhang Che shook his head, expelling this bizarre thought from his mind. However, in the next moment he saw that the bewitching flower had blossomed even more beautifully. The flower was obviously larger than before, and the mysterious patterns on the petals looked as if they could suck a person’s soul in.
While he was distracted, Zhang Che felt an extremely attractive mysterious wave emanating from the bewitching flower.
The mysterious wave was so obvious that even Zhang Che could sense it from several hundred meters away, and was tempted to go over and admire the flower.
“No, I have to leave this cursed place immediately!” Zhang Che shook his head violently, his heart filled with fear.
This scene was truly too shocking. A flower could actually evolve by consuming the corpses of exotic beasts, and even had a powerful exotic beast by its side, silently offering food to it. No matter how you looked at it, it would strike fear in anyone.
Another thought entered Zhang Che’s mind, too. That flower had to be extraordinary, for the flying tiger to feed it so diligently. Once it fully matured, it was sure to be an exceptional treasure.
However, he knew fully well that his subdued beasts were no match for that flying tiger. If he grew greedy and harbored thoughts of snatching away that bewitching flower, he might even lose his life if he was careless, turning into a pile of fertilizer.

Seeing the Purple Jade Condor flying further away with Zhang Che hanging under it, the flying tiger only raised its head to take a short glance before sitting down on the ground silently a short distance away from the flower, as if waiting for new prey to walk up to its doorstep.
——–
In the end, Zhang Che still didn’t leave that place.
That was because when the Purple Jade Condor flew several hundred meters away, Zhang Che clearly saw ripples spreading out from everywhere around the lone island. After that, a bunch of ugly fish creatures of various sizes crawled out of the pond one after another, surrounding the center of the island.
It was akin to an army coming ashore, attacking their enemies’ fort, a grand visual experience.
With a show to watch, and nearly zero risk to himself, naturally Zhang Che wasn’t willing to leave.
Perhaps, he might even find the opportunity to become a fisherman again!
Since such a possibility existed, Zhang Che was, of course, unwilling to leave so easily.
That bewitching flower was too attractive to him. Being a treasure that was able to consume the flesh of exotic beasts to evolve, the prospect of using its life essence to cure his mother’s illness was a hopeful prospect.
Although Professor Sun Qilong from Bei Di University’s beast card cultivation major had a subdued beast with a rare healing-type skill, Zhang Che couldn’t possibly pin all his hopes on that.
Not to mention, whether Huang Tielan could successfully pass the examination, and whether Professor Sun Qilong’s subdued beast could cure his mother’s illness, were still uncertainties.
How many senior high schoolers were there in the entire Hua Xia region? Even if there weren’t many people with talent in this area, with such a huge population, the number of students would still be shockingly high. Naturally, everyone would want to enroll into the best school. One could imagine how tough the competition was.
Many thoughts flashed through his mind, as close to a hundred ugly fish creatures came ashore onto the lone island, hurriedly crawling towards the center of the island.
Despite the distance between Zhang Che and the creatures, he could sense their thirst and desire for the huge flower in the center of the island.

-This is certainly an extremely rare treasure!- Zhang Che ascertained the quality of this bewitching flower almost instantly. It was surely several grades higher than the Five-Colored Spiritual Flower consumed by the Purple Jade Condor!
“I must get my hands on this flower; it is sure to cure mother’s illness!”
Zhang Che looked at the bewitching flower in the center of the island, his eyes red with greed. He almost couldn’t hold it in and wanted to order the Purple Jade Condor to fly over, involving himself in the impending bitter fight.
Fortunately, Zhang Che was still relatively clear-headed, forcefully suppressing that urge. He got the Purple Jade Condor to circle around the island, waiting for an opportunity to enter the stage.
With almost a hundred ugly fish creatures swarming towards their goal, even if there was a qualitative difference in their strength against the flying tiger, numbers could close the gap. Perhaps there was a chance of them defeating the flying tiger?
No matter how bad they were, they should be able to injure that powerful beast!
Looking at the hundred ugly fish creatures approaching from all directions, the flying tiger who had been extremely calm all this time was finally enraged. It suddenly opened its mouth wide, letting out an extremely angered roar. It finally left the bewitching flower’s side, its figure suddenly disappearing from where it stood, lightning fast as it moved between the ugly fish creatures at blinding speed.
Every momentary pause the flying tiger took would be immediately accompanied by a streak of splattering blood, without exception. The ugly fish creatures it struck would gain a huge, deep cut on their bodies and lose their ability to fight, collapsing and struggling in their own pools of blood.
In just the blink of an eye, over a dozen ugly fish creatures were gravely injured.
The remaining ugly fish creatures’ huge eyes turned fully red. They opened their mouths wide one after another, shooting out fans of water mist, enveloping almost half of the island.
Even if the flying tiger was as fast as lightning, it was unable to avoid such a wide area attack completely, moreso since it had to protect the bewitching flower in the center of the island and was unable to leave.
A deep roar came from the flying tiger’s mouth like the rumbling of thunder. Its gold-and-green wings that had never been fully spread all this time suddenly opened wide, and the surrounding air currents suddenly started flowing faster, forming multiple tiny air vortexes that quickly spread out in all directions.
Zhang Che watched with great pleasure, almost wanting to cheer out loud!
Without a doubt, the flying tiger was an exotic beast at the gold quality, or even higher. These air vortexes were its attack skill.
After the air vortexes flew out, not only were the surrounding ugly fish creatures injured all over, the corrosive water mist they shot out was blown away, making it extremely hard to harm the flying tiger.
Even so, the air vortexes were very small, and those water mists covered nearly everything, drenching the flying tiger in the end.
Against this corrosive poisonous attack, no matter how strong the flying tiger’s defenses were, they would barely slow the mist down.
Zhang Che could see that the black and white fur on the flying tiger’s body instantly changed colors, turning a charred black color. The shining gold-green wings dulled, the feathers turned into burnt ash as they fell down.
Under the excruciating pain, the flying tiger let out a pained, angry roar. Its figure shot out once more like lightning, tearing at the ugly fish creatures that weren’t killed by the air vortexes with its teeth like a mad demon.
Countless ugly fish creatures were quickly killed in this manner, and less than half of them remained. However, the injuries on the flying tiger grew increasingly severe.
The surface of its skin and flesh was thoroughly corroded by the poisonous water and turned into tiny pools of thick ichor. With every one of the flying tiger’s violent movements, the viscous goo quickly slid off its body, revealing the red muscles and white bones underneath.
In the end, the flying tiger’s wings were only left with two rows of white, harrowed bones, drooping down to the sides weakly. The previously murderous, shining eyes were now spiritless.
Zhang Che was wild with joy, his eyes beaming. He immediately ordered the Purple Jade Condor to fly to the island.
“It’s time to pick up scraps!”

Travelers [DROPPED]
DROPPED. The story focuses less on dungeon building than on the why of dungeons and how they fit into the universal order. While I am working from a grand plot, the writing is going slice of life style because I need to do that to work out how things progress into that grand plot. The original story seed idea / synopsis is below. The Grand Tapestry protects Rhofhir from Primal Chaos by imposing Order via patterns. However, the patterns grow stiff, stagnant, and so the Tapestry is nearing a time of Unraveling. Evidence of past civilizations wiped out during previous Unravelings foreshadow the apocalyptic catastrophe looming over the world. The mages of the Arcane Asylum reach out across dimensions, searching for some way to prevent, or at least stall, the coming Unraveling. Among the many voices they find is a gifted graduate student researching machine-assisted telepathy -- and his gaming group. Lena never expected that the chance to play DnD with telepathy would result in her becoming an actual Dungeon Master, nor that her friends could become the bosses of her dungeon. This is, in many ways, her dream come true, but there's a catch: What happened to Brad, the creator of that telepathy machine?
