The Great Thief Chapter 1037 – Straight to the Captain
Translator: Halcyon Translations Editor: Halcyon Translations
When he opened the fifth door, he found a box inside called Chief Engineer Tomson’s Toolbox.
Lu Li recalled the previous rooms and prayed that there wouldn’t be a monster hiding inside the box. That way, he could take the rewards without any risk at all.
If Tomson was the Chief Engineer, there was a high chance of the box containing Engineering recipes.
The boxed opened and a dark mist seeped through the cracks, summoning a monster that began to attack Lu Li. When he saw its level and stats, his heart sunk.
Lv55, 15,000HP. Each attack dealt 680 points of damage to him, while he only dealt around 100 in return.
Before he could even take down a fifth of the monster’s HP, he was almost dead. This wasn’t a fight that he could win and Lu Li decided to retreat when he only had 20% HP left.
The Chief Engineer specialized in Engineering and machinery, and therefore would have other skills up his sleeve that he had yet to use.
If Lu Li didn’t run away while he still had the chance, it was very likely that he would die here.
There was nothing he could do but to accept the truth.
The worst feeling in life was when there was something you wanted placed right in front of you, but at the same time, slightly out of reach. Lu Li had the urge to call up his guild and wipe out the entire shipwreck.
However, he knew that it would be impossible because battles on land were different to battles under water. Mages weren’t able to cast their skills underwater, so they were basically useless. Conversely, bringing along a team of melee classes would be stupid.
Besides, not everyone was able to sneak past the swarms of Lv55 monsters like Lu Li.
Clearing the monsters would take too long and the benefit would likley not outweigh the risks.

However, Lu Li didn’t want to just give up.
There were 6 rooms!
He had already obtained two Equipment Level Requirement gems but he still wasn’t satisfied. The thought of giving up the last few chests made his heart break.
No, there had to be some other way.
Lu Li drank another potion that allowed him to breathe underwater and checked if he had anything in his bag that could be put to use.
Bombs were probably useless because they couldn’t be detonated underwater. Even if bombs did work, they probably wouldn’t be enough to kill Tomson.
He continued searching through his bag…
“Wait a minute; The Book of Ur?”
Lu Li’s eyes sparkled. Was it possible to summon Silly Husky to lure the monster away while he searched the chest?
If he received any damage while opening the chest, he would be immediately interrupted. This was the reason why Lu Li couldn’t just tank the Boss while opening it up. However, if there was something that could lure the Boss away, then he could do whatever he wanted.
First, there were two requirements that had to be met.
One was whether Silly Husky could swim while the other was whether the Underwater Breathing potion would work on him.
For this whole operation to work, both requirements had to be fulfilled.
Lu Li summoned Silly Husky, who tried to howl and almost choked on the water. Lu Li held onto him tightly and poured the potion down his mouth.
The werewolf resisted for his dear life.
“Master, what are you trying to do to me?”
A voice appeared in Lu Li’s mind and he realized that Silly Husky was able to communicate with him through their minds. The Book of Ur was so overpowered!
“We’re underwater right now. I gave you a potion to help you breathe; don’t drown on me.”
“Drown your ass. I’m already dead; how can I die again? Let go of me.”

Lu Li watched as Silly Husky swam around the water casually like he a professional swimmer and placed his potions away. He realized that only pets needed to breathe and summoned monsters did not.
“What did you summon me today for? Wait…” Silly Husky began, then saw the Ghost in the room. His expressions changed as he muttered, “You want me to…”
“Cough, cough, I summoned you to help me,” Lu Li laughed.
Lu Li felt a sense of guilt wash over him because summoned monsters were quite intelligent.
“You can’t beat this guy?”
“You make it sound like you’ve fought him before.”
“Hmm, back in the day…”
“Back in the day you were just a servant of a Magician.”
“He was an Arch Mage – Archmage Ur. Do not disrespect him.”
“Haha, stop wasting time. Are you going to help me or not?”
“Nope, and you can’t force me!”
“Then I’ll never summon you again.”
“Crap, please don’t do that. What’s so hard about luring a monster away? Watch me take him so far that you can’t see me anymore.
Silly Husky agreed almost immediately after being threatened. The only time he was allowed out was when Lu Li summoned him. He was able to stroll around town and explore the dungeons with Lu Li. Even though it was only for a short period of time, it was better than nothing at all.
It was not good for him to make Lu Li angry.
Silly Husky tested his speed underwater. In reality, he was also a ghost, so he could move freely and would have no problem luring the Boss away.
“Oi, wait a second,” Lu Li stopped the werewolf.
If he was going to lure the Boss away instead of fighting it, why not lure the final Boss away?
Since Silly Husky only had a limited amount of time to be summoned, he might as well go to the final Boss room to lure it away. Then, all he had to do was to bring another Thief with him the next time to finish looting the other rooms.
Lu Li’s idea was very brave, but risky.
What if the Boss instantly killed Silly Husky?
He opened a few more doors and came to the last room. He knew that this was the final room because the words ‘Captain’s Room’ was written on the door. When he opened the door, he saw Captain Vinci’s treasure chest.
The bags and satchels from the previous rooms were nothing compared to this.
He looked around and saw that there were no monsters around. The Boss would most likely appear after opening the chest.
There was also a chance of no monster spawning. If he got lucky and the Boss wasn’t summoned, then he could freely loot the chest and wouldn’t have to ask this favour from Silly Husky.
Lu Li opened the chest!
The chest was like a genie in a bottle, except the genie was a terrifying Boss. As soon as he opened it, he immediately transformed into a seal and went into Stealth mode.
Thanks to the bonus movement speed underwater, he was able narrowly escape.
Silly Husky was almost in tears as he unwillingly approached the Boss and attacked it. The number -1 appeared above Captain Vinci’s head and Silly Husky swam away as fast as he could.
When the Captain was out of the room, Lu Li cancelled his Stealth and opened the chest.
“Far out, why does the game always reward me with daggers?”
Lu Li didn’t need daggers at all because he had the Shard of the Defiler in one hand and the Widowmaker in the other hand. Every other Dagger he had received thus far was thrown into the guild storage.

The Stars Have Eyes
The universe was a vast, empty, dark, and uncaring place. Then life happened, and the universe was changed forever. Only a teeny-tiny bit, but definitely different. Then again, the universe changes a teeny-tiny bit every second of every day. For instance, if someone were to get off the couch and randomly drink a glass of milk? Bam! One less glass of milk in the universe. Changed forever. Well, excluding any time-travel shenanigans, but anyone who puts a big old hole in the time-space continuum just to un-drink a glass of milk should really reevaluate their priorities. Unless, of course, they were attempting to prevent some massive catastrophe vis-a-vis said glass of milk. Such a scenario is by no means impossible, as one should never underestimate the importance of calcium. Another important tip for any life forms out there is to keep things in perspective. Some look at the vastness of creation in relation to themselves and go, ‘Man, this sucks!’ These people really need to narrow their focus. Sure, they will never affect anything happening on the other end of the galaxy, but so what? That’s way the heck over there, where it doesn’t matter. Therefore, in order to maintain a healthy mindset, it is important to narrow one’s perspective to the things and people that affect them, and that they can affect in turn. But what happens if one is an unfathomable cosmic being from beyond the veil of reality? What happens when such an existence is capable of influencing entire swathes of the universe just by its presence? A creature such as Magh'rathlak the Observer? That particular entity is only about average as far as reality-warping creatures from the dawn of time go, so its influence over the fabric of reality is rather limited. And it still struggles to keep things in perspective. That, among other things, is why it decided to narrow its worldview a bit by compressing the maddening vastness of its being into a single corporeal form. Magh'rathlak had never tried such a feat, but that wasn't about to stop it. After all, how hard could being human possibly be?

Shadowrun: The Wild Fire Tales
Shadowrun: The Wild Fire Tales is a web novel based on the Shadowrun tabletop RPG and video games. It tells the story of one Leon Eagles, formerly known as "Wild Fire", a quick and deadly gunslinger regarded as one of the best "shadowrunners" in North America. If you need someone to perform jobs in the shadows of society such as bodyguard duty, espionage, or even murder, Leon Eagles is the man to call. Together with his allies Sylvia Morrow and Brandon Rivers, Leon fights week-to-week to survive in a world of arcane magic and cutting-edge technology, a world of corporate suits and fire-breathing hellhounds, and a world where some of its biggest ever surprises are still yet to come...... This is my first web novel, brought over from ScribbleHub, and any comments and feedback are appreciated. Unique terms or further in-universe history for those unfamiliar to Shadowrun will be explained upon request, or you can check the ScribbleHub glossary here: https://www.scribblehub.com/series/297362/shadowrun-the-wild-fire-tales/glossary/. I hope non-Shadowrun fans become interested in the Shadowrun world at large, and I hope Shadowrun fans are entertained by my take on this great in-game universe!
