The Great Thief Chapter 730: Blind Mary

After a few minutes and sacrificing three Paladins, Lu Li and the others ended the battle.

Besides the coins, the semi-boss also dropped another two items.

Once of them was a Stalvan Coin. A small paragraph was engraved onto the coin that read, "You filthy infiltrators refuse to help two lovers be together just because one of them hasn't realized that they were made for each other? I hope the worst upon all of you!"

It seemed like Stalvan was living in his own world until the very end.

Some people said that if a person's love wasn't reciprocated, they would need the same amount of hate to replace the empty spot in their hearts.

Because the young girl had too many good traits that he didn't have, his love became admiration, which then became his imagination. There were also some torn pieces of paper that Lu Li was more interested in. After carefully piecing them together, he discovered a hidden section to Stalvan's story.

Many years ago, when I first came, one of the Liches from the Scourge was interested in me. He could see the strong hatred I held within me. That's right – I hated this world. It could never treat everyone equally.

I mercilessly killed her whole family. I've regretted this before because I loved her. Every time I was in pain, I had to hate to help release the pain. I hated every single nobleman and targeted every single one from Stormwind City that I saw.

Lu Li felt fortunate that this semi-boss wasn't level 50 yet, or else there was no way that the battle would have been so easy. They revived the dead team members and all of them dragged the giant body of Stalvan back.

As for the Lich, it was like a lurking shadow on Lu Li's mind, but there was nothing he could do about it.

The giant corpse of the Abomination was transported back to Night City. A crowd of citizens and soldiers gathered to watch, constantly gasping and whispering praises. The reputation of Lu Li and the others had risen again.

Stalvan's corpse was cleansed by the Paladins and was buried in Raven Hill.

Uncertain if he still had the chance to rise again, Lu Li waved Althea goodbye and took Sesame Rice Ball to see Madame Eva.

"Thank-you. The results of my fortune telling has told me that my grand-daughter is now safe," Madame Eva concluded in satisfaction after trying to look into the future again.

"Then we'll go and hand in our task," Sesame Rice Ball said, instantly energized.

This quest had continued on for dozens of hours, and he had travelled to so many places. If it wasn't for the help of Lu Li, he wasn't sure if he could have even completed it.

"Thief, can you help me with something?" Madame Eva suddenly called out as Lu Li was about to leave.

Lu Li had a massive impact on this quest that didn't belong to him, but the System wouldn't ignore his contribution. If he had high Charm, he would have received a reward, but most times, he would be given a quest.

Sesame Rice Ball nodded to Lu Li and turned to leave.

Lu Li really wanted to turn down the request. Madame Eva's quest series for Stalvan was too much of a hassle. If it wasn't for the fact that he had a high reputation and connections in Night City, perhaps the situation would've been even more troublesome.

Seeing Lu Li's hesitation, Madame Eva tried to get him to pity her.

"What should a poor, old thing like me do? I need these Ghost Hairs, but it's too dangerous outside. I'm too old and too weak. Brave Elf, can you help me."

"As you ask," Lu Li said reluctantly while trying to comfort himself. Perhaps this would be a really simple quest.

"In one of the old farms, located in a hill south to Night City, there's a pitiful and miserable ghost – Blind Mary. Take this Ghost Comb and brush Blind Mary's Hair, then bring the brush back to me and I'll be able to pick off the Ghost Hairs. Be careful; darkness still surrounds that house even utnil today."

Lu Li rubbed the goosebumps that didn't really exist on his arms as he set off on a ghost hunting journey.

Blind Mary was a ghost who lived in an old house towards the south of Night City. She wore bright, purple clothes which made her face seem even paler. Only two empty holes were left where a pair of beautiful eyes once resided.

Although she was a passive monster, Lu Li approached carefully and took out the comb to brush her hair.

Lu Li was quite confident in this aspect; he had brushed Lu Xin's hair ever since she was a little girl. His best hairstyle was two piggy-tails. Classmates from her school was often envious that she had such a good, caring brother.

Lu Li used the brush from Madame Eva to discreetly brush Blind Mary's with light, delicate movements. Although Blind Mary couldn't see, she still felt him doing this.

She flicked her hair in a spur and cried out in horror, "No! Take it away! Take the brush away from me! I'm a monster – no one else will find me cute anymore!"

This was another tragedy.

During a night many years ago, corpses killed by the Scourge Army rose from the dead. The first people who were impacted were the surrounding civilians. Blind Mary's household was one of them.

Blind Mary was protected by her family and survived, but her eyes were ruined. She was constantly in a fever and spoke nonsense. A few days after, she suddenly woke up, but it seemed like she had forgotten everything. The poor girl asked about her father and brother, but no one could bring themselves to tell her the truth. They just told her that they went on an urgent mission.

Now, she had passed away and become a ghost, wandering around the area in anticipation of her family's return…
