The Rise of the White Lotus Chapter 360 – Babies

After careful and easy instructions, Lexi laid down on the mattress where the ultrasound equipment was beside it. Of course, upon hearing that they would hear the baby’s heartbeat and take a glimpse of the small seed inside, that fact alone tremendously excites Ethan Lu and Yang parents. Rika Song was also excited yet, she kept glancing at Jaime Liao that had made the corner of her eyes curve in glee.

“Okay… Mommy, you can lift your blouse a little.” Sitting on the stool beside the bed, Jaime Liao put on his disposable plastic white gloves as he picked up a small white container that contains gel to placed on Lexi’s tummy.

However, the moment Ethan Lu heard it and Lexi was slowly lifting her blouse and exposing a bit of her skin, his hand involuntarily held on Lexi’s wrist which made her stop.

“Wait—!” Furrowing his brows, Ethan Lu forgot that his in-laws were there and made a dent in the image of the good son-in-law. As a matter of fact, he forgot everything as his emotions at this moment took over— stripping him all rationality and sensibility about the situation.

His abrupt action and the way his tone turned up caught the attention of everyone present inside the office. Yet, Ethan Lu only altered his gaze from Lexi’s tummy and then to Jaime Liao whose head was tilted on the side.

“Why do you need to see her tummy? Why? Why?” Narrowing his eyes as he settled his pair of orbs onto Jaime Liao, Ethan Lu slightly thrusted his chin forward as if he was interrogating a criminal.

“Pfft—!” After hearing his innocent instigation, Lillian Yang could not help but chuckle while Frederick Yang pursed his lips into a thin line as he resisted joining his wife in her giggle fit. On the other hand, Lexi could only roll her eyes as a heavy exhale escaped her mouth. While Jaime Liao brightly smiled which melted Rika Song’s beating heart.

“Mr. Lu, it is needed for us to see the baby inside.” Short and precise, Jaime Liao explained what Ethan Lu was missing out on. “It is harmless.” Suggesting him to trust him, it was obvious why Ethan Lu was acting that way.

Still, although Jaime Liao was clueless that the father to be was akin to a child that doesn’t know a thing or two about this stuff, his gentleness and patience were rather long. Thus, he didn’t judge Ethan Lu for his actions and hostility towards him. Instead, Jaime Liao professionally explained the details to him.

“Ethan…” Under her distressed breath, Lexi heaved another heavy sigh as Ethan Lu’s lack of knowledge seemed to decide itself to be paraded today. “It’s okay, alright? Do you want to see the baby or not?” Lexi arched her brows which made him loosen his grip on her wrist.

“I’m watching you.” Through his gritted teeth, Ethan Lu ungratefully glared daggers at the innocent and pure-hearted doctor. Fortunately, Jaime Liao was mature enough to understand where this jealousy was coming from as Lexi was indeed too gorgeous to let men, even a doctor like him to come close to her.

Lillian Yang could only cover her mouth to stop her tempting cackles from bursting while Frederick Yang was now biting his bottom lip as hard as he could, not to laugh as well. In their eyes, Ethan Lu was rather adorable in his own way.

They already foresaw Ethan Lu being a cute father back when they witnessed his first reaction to the news and how dejected he was when he made Lexi almost puke by the dessert he proudly offered. Nevertheless, unlike how others perceived, Ethan Lu’s good son-in-law’s image was still perfectly intact.

Alas, just as they thought that Ethan Lu was done, they thought wrong. Because when Lexi resumed lifting her blouse, they heard him speak again.

“Uhm… can you do it with your eyes closed?” Blinking slowly, Ethan Lu looked straight at Jaime Liao’s unchanging gentle front anticipating and hoping for a ‘yes’ answer. Of course, when his question reached everyone’s ears, Lillian Yang’s chuckles finally burst out from her mouth that resonated across every corner of the room.

Along with her laughter, Frederick Yang covered his mouth as muffled chuckles slipped out from him causing his shoulders to tremble. On the other hand, Lexi felt a slight headache by how stupid his question was while Rika Song finally snapped from ogling at the hot doctor and then turned to Ethan Lu with a judgy glint that flashed across her pair of eyes.

“I’m sorry, Mr. Lu, but I can’t. We won’t properly see the baby if I do that.” Bearing the same temperament, Jaime Liao patiently explained again and repeated the same exact words he used to explain how this works.

“My god, Ethan. Behave!” The person who was distressed about Ethan Lu’s stalling sassed. Lexi could not help but massage her temples as her boiling point was about to reach its danger zone.

After that, Ethan Lu only clicked his tongue as he carefully watched Jaime Liao’s actions again. Call him immature, but he just didn’t like the fact that a cool and considerably handsome guy would see Lexi’s tummy and get his hands on it… or so he thought.

When Lexi’s blouse was lifted up and showed her slightly protruding tummy, Jaime Liao didn’t waste a second as he immediately squeezed an ample amount of gel on Lexi’s tummy and then used the ultrasound probe to smear it on a particular spot on Lexi’s tummy.

Jaime Liao made sure not to look at Lexi’s tummy to avoid the wrath of the jealous father of her child as his gaze shifted to the monitor across him. Lexi, on the other hand, stared at the other monitor above her.

Soon, everyone’s heart melted when Jaime Liao slowly found the perfect angle to take a peek at the baby inside… however, Jaime Liao’s brows marginally raised as he moved the ultrasound probe on Lexi’s side to get a clearer view.

It only took him several seconds, before Jaime Liao finally got the perfect angle which made the experienced Mother Yang and Father Yang’s eyes widen in surprise.

“Oh my god!” Gasping as tears suddenly formed on the side of her eyes, Lillian Yang covered her gaped mouth. Frederick Yang was also unblinkingly staring at the monitor before he took a step forward to get a closer look.

“Mommy, that’s your babies— you can say hi. It seems like you’re not only carrying one but two. Congratulations!” Smiling brightly by this news, Jaime Liao turned to Lexi and then to the dumbfounded father to be as Ethan Lu seemed to forget the doctors’ existence as his eyes were fixed on the monitor screen where it showed the perfect view of two small seeds inside.

Taking up this chance, Jaime Liao let them hear the heartbeats of the children that soon bounced across the whole room causing their heart’s to melt instantly.

“Babies…” Moved, overwhelmed, surfeit happiness, Lexi’s eyes stung as her eyes never once looked away from the monitor before her. What she sees right now, those two small seeds gave her an intense maternal instinct as she instantly fell in love with them. What made the tears fall from her eyes, was when she heard the heartbeats of the humans that were slowly growing within her.

“My babies… Mommy loves you…” Lexi was unaware but these words just naturally slipped from her mouth because all her focus was on the screen where she finally was able to see a glimpse of her kids that she now is expecting in the future.
