The Rise of the White Lotus Chapter 40 – Give and Take relationship

Seeing Lexi slumping on her lap while trembling, Lexi was quite concern on the little adorable dumpling — forgetting that she was probably the safest being strolling around them. Alas, before Lexi could even console her, the little dumpling flew in front of her with Churu’s glittering blushing face.

“Chuu~! There are bad people in every corner of this area with guns! I can smell the sweet scent of chaos, chu~! So scary~!” Churu exclaimed in one go. Alas, unlike her claims of being scared, her expression tells Lexi otherwise. By the looks of it, she was rather excited to the extent of making her tremble.

Seeing this, Lexi slowly rolled her eyes as she slowly closed them. She could feel a slight headache realizing that Churu was superficial being that neither could be heard nor touch. Moreover, the cause of her abrupt disappearance hovered on Lexi’s mind.

Churu turned her attention to the hulk man that has a kitten head mask which turned her glittering eyes to another degree of excitement, “Boss Tito, chu~!” She flew towards the man named Tito with half of her body moving sideways, like a puppy wagging her tail.

‘Tito? Sissy? Where have you been?’ Hearing that Churu knew the man’s name, she inquired out of curiosity.

“I’m following them, chu! Apparently, they were taking down bad men who attempted to harm every guest of the host of this party, chu~!” Churu giddily exclaimed as she continued to scan Tito’s physique.

‘So he’s telling the truth…’

“Of course, chu~! I sensed danger and I need to survey which side my sissy could trust… you can’t die, chu~!” This time, Churu turned her head to Lexi’s direction and smiled brightly. Indeed, Churu knew she wasn’t useful as of yet to Lexi. Ultimately, the host of the system, which was Lexi was still unwilling to give her entire heart to her task hence, she could not make full use of the benefits of the so-called system — the basic rules of give and take relationship between the system and its host.

However, since Churu grew fonder of Lexi and treated her well despite not abiding the rules of the system, she acted on her own volition for the sake of her ‘Sissy’.

Hearing Churu’s words, Lexi for some reason felt relief. Earlier, even though she was panicking, she thought of Churu’s location as she always forgets that the little dumpling can’t be harmed.

“Well, Mr. Lu?” After some time, Tito asked Ethan of his decision.

“Risk? Huh, Let us go and I will take it from here.” Ethan Lu authoritatively demanded. Though his complexion was slightly pale for some unknown reason, his solemn countenance was demanding and domineering.

The man whom Churu called Tito obviously scanned Ethan’s resolve before he let out a heavy sigh. He then pulled out a small dagger from behind him and slid it towards the side of Ethan; where his tied hand could reach.

For a split second, Ethan Lu was slightly surprised that the man did submit from his demands. He was just testing the man’s patience and gravitating whether he’d dare to let them go, alas, seeing how fast the hulk-like man agreed, it rather heightened Ethan’s suspicions.

“We can only secure you from the shadows if you’re inside the premises but if you leave, we cannot be concerned with your safety anymore,” Tito warned for the last time before closing the doors and left.

Lexi who was observing the situation lowered her gaze towards the sharp dagger beside Ethan. Seeing him reach for the dagger, she was slightly surprised that Ethan managed to slash the rope in one attempt. Recalling how he attempted to fend off the men earlier, she could tell that Ethan was quite strong for buying her some time.

It just so happened that he was overpowered as the men who captured them were much more expert in their field. Furthermore, her mind malfunctioned at the same time that caused her failure to leave and ask for help.

After successfully freeing his hand, Ethan didn’t waste a second and freed his feet before turning to Lexi. Without a word from both of them, Lexi’s wrists and feet were released as well.

“I don’t know if we can trust him but if what he’s saying were true, I think we must stay inside the premises a little longer…” Ethan explained while heavily breathing and beads of sweat began to form on his forehead. Seeing this abnormality, Lexi’s brows creased.

“Are you alright?” without thinking much about it, Lexi’s hand raised and assisted Ethan’s jaw for her to see him clearly. Fortunately, Ethan didn’t tease her like the usual as he forced a meek smile of reassurance and nodded.

“No, you must leave this place, chu~! I’ll tell you what road is safe.” Churu offered filled with determination. Seeing how serious Churu was, Lexi took her advice; giving her full trust to the little dumpling.

“No, I think he’s not as bad as we thought they were, but… we must leave this place.” Lexi stared at Ethan’s pale complexion with her utmost earnest. In her mind, Churu’s intention was reliable and pure which was somewhat true. However, when Churu heard that Lexi took her advice, a slightly mischievous glint flashed across her eyes as if foreseeing a good scenario in her mind.

Churu giggled inwardly while keeping her facade on the surface, ‘hihi, let’s see how many points my sissy can accumulate this time.’
