The Rise of the White Lotus Chapter 39 – Will you let us go?

Both Ethan and Lexi looked at each other with their brows knitted. They were puzzled by the man’s upset claims and apprehension. Keeping their silence for a while, Lexi flinched when the door of the vehicle abruptly opened.

There, it revealed an equipped man with a black cloth covering his whole except his eyes. However, despite that his features were all covered, Lexi could tell by his distress from his eyes. It was as if he was more on the desperate and worse situation than them.

After scanning Ethan and Lexi’s condition, he let out a heavy sigh before closing the doors again. Just as the door was shut close, a loud cursed was once again reached Lexi’s ear.

“F*ck!!”

Hearing another distress curse outside, Lexi’s brows could not help but twitch. They were the one who was being tied up and was captured yet, why was the man was acting very out of character.

Considering the frightening rifle clung across his body and his physique, Lexi expected that he was a terrifying felon. Alas, instead of feeling more scared than she was now, it rather gave her a slight relief for some unknown reason.

Averting her eyes to Ethan who was attentively listening to the conversation outside, she whispered, “Hey…”

“Shhh.” Alas, Ethan gently hushed her as he moved on her side and leaned his ear against the wall of the vehicle.

“They were one of the guests according to him.”

“I know that! Why the hell did you park beside that car in the first place?! We were told a designated position to move those bastards! Ha, you’ve been lax aren’t you?”

Ethan faintly heard their conversation and grasp a thing or two from them. First, they were not the target and it just so happened that they were present at the wrong place and time. Second was, this group of armed men might or might not harm them if they obediently followed their demand.

He turned to Lexi’s direction after his conclusion. At the same time, Lexi turned her gaze on him as well. By the looks of their eyes, Ethan and Lexi seemed to have a silent understanding of their dilemma.

However, before the two could spat a word, the door was opened once again. Turning their attention on the opened backdoor, they were slightly surprised that the man who checked them earlier had two bottles of water and two sandwiches.

“Here, keep yourselves hydrated.” the masked man offered as he threw the sandwiches on Ethan’s lap with impeccable precision and rolled the bottled water towards them.

“Uh, how nice of you.” Before Lexi could realize it, her sarcasm was released from her mouth as she glanced at the beverage and snacks for them.

“How can we eat them?” Ethan who was puzzled by the man’s unexpected concerns probed. He then slightly turned to explain that they were apparently tied up. Hence, there’s no way they could keep themselves ‘hydrated.’

“Ohh, right. Then, just don’t die in the meantime.” Their situation finally registered to the man as he scratched the back of his head and awkwardly advised.

“Don’t die, who?”

Suddenly, a deep voice reached them. Lexi clearly saw fear from the masked man’s eyes as he heard the deep, manly voice. He abruptly turned to the side and bowed his head in respect.

“Boss T –” due to panicked, the masked man almost blurted out the other man’s name whom Lexi and Ethan could not see from their standpoint.

“I heard what happened. Continue your surveillance around the vicinity and leave one person to the two.” The deep, manly voice instructed which the masked man abided after a bow.

‘Secure?’ Lexi questioned inwardly. Soon, after the masked man left, a huge that seemed to inherit hulk’s genes came into sight. Though his face was covered by a cute cat head mask, alas, his unbelievable enormous body destroyed the cuteness image of a kitten community.

“I apologize for my men’s incautiousness that led to your unsightly situation.” The hulk man courtly apologized as he bowed his head. Ethan and Lexi could discern that he was a foreigner from his broke Chinese accent.

“Who are you people?” Ethan solemnly inquired. Lexi’s brows arc as she turned her gaze on Ethan. She was slightly speechless with his serious expression and a full 360-degree change of persona. He transformed from a happy-go-lucky type of guy into an authoritative one that broadened Lexi’s view towards the young master of the Lu family.

“Young sir, I cannot answer that question but believe me when I say we meant no harm to the people here.”

“Then, who are those unconscious men?” probing a little bit further, Ethan remained adamant on his post.

“They were the one who might shoot you in the head.” The hulk man sternly responded. By the sound of his voice, he seemed he was telling the truth. Alas, with the trauma of the sight earlier, Lexi found it hard to believe everything the man says.

“Alright… will you let us go?” Without showing whether Ethan trusted the man’s words or not, he bravely demanded. After some time, a stifling silence enveloped on their surrounding as the man took his time to respond.

“I can. But, as you can see, the whole place was surrounded by… dangerous people. I’m afraid if I let you go now and a gunfight sparked, you’ll get caught in the middle of the crossfire. Will you take the risk?”

Lexi was astounded by the man’s words. He was willing to let them go now with assertiveness, despite that they might do something silly. ‘Is he that skilled to have this confidence?’

“Chuuu~!! I’m scared, chu~!” Churu who abruptly disappeared earlier and now re-appeared out of thin air landed on her lap with her whole dumpling being trembling.
