The Rise of the White Lotus Chapter 35 – What's that thing again?

Lexi side glances at him before she lightly shook her head and resumed on her tracks. Though she tolerated Ethan’s nonsense earlier, now that no one that she should impress was around, Lexi doesn’t find any reason to utter a single word to this playful man tonight. She already had enough with him hence, ignoring him was part of her plan in the end.

“Eh? Ignoring me now?” Ethan with a puzzled countenance caught up with her and inquired with his head slightly tilted sideways. Yet, Lexi neither glanced at him nor slowed down on her tracks; she didn’t even fasten her pace as if to her, Ethan wasn’t there.

“Miss Yang is so cold, this is… heartbreaking.” Ethan acted as if he was heartbroken by clasping his chest as he displayed a hurt look on his profile but to no avail, the cold woman was unmoved. To his perspective, despite being treated like air, Ethan was rather delighted by how Lexi straighten her unwavering resolve.

Earlier, everything he does made her brows twitch, and then dismay would flash across her face which didn’t go unnoticed by his keen eyes. Hence, to see more of her odd responses to his dazzling and enchanting action that every girl liked, Ethan kept on making a move on her — just to his entertainment which of course evidently disgusted the woman. Her automatic reaction left a hundred question marks on his head.

Ethan would probably understand why Lexi was too sensitive being teased if he doesn’t look decent. However, in his 28 years of his existence, Ethan Lu was confident with his looks! He also watched his manner towards her at bay and kept his action to the minimum since he was just teasing her, but why does she seemed she was being hit on by some hoodlum?

‘Does she have a problem with her eyesight? Eh? That’s impossible isn’t? She liked Morris after all,’

Now, that her defenses were now secured again, she was back to that arrogant and proud young miss she originally was. She was yet again unfazed by his mischievous ploy.

In the short span of time, Ethan was still bewildered on why Morris Liu, his sworn brother was too vexed by her presence. After all, she was a decent woman unlike what the rumors say. Moreover, compare to Mia Chen who was indeed a kind-hearted woman, Lexi, on the other hand, is the type of lady that a businessman would fancy.

‘Aiya, I would probably not comprehend that thing called… what’s that thing again?’ Ethan Lu thought inwardly and resumed his disturbance to the cold empress like a pest. Though he couldn’t fathom this whole charade between Lexi and Morris, the new knowledge he perceived in Lexi’s defense mechanism was amusing in its own way. Thus, he wanted to see more.

Reaching the function hall where the employees of the Yue International Enterprise were having a blast, two intimate figures on the corner owned the dance floor.

Though the chairwoman and the young master of the Jin Medical Group were romantically dancing on the corner, their beautiful presence shone through among the crowd. Lexi who’s attention was piqued turned her gaze towards the two figures.

“Eh, Miss Yang, don’t treat your ally like this…” Ethan Lu frowned as he was still receiving the cold treatment. Seeing that she stopped and gazing at the distance, Ethan Lu followed her gaze.

Scrutinizing the two respectable figure, Lexi must admit that the two of them suited each other. She was more inclined to see the new chairwoman’s expression and to her surprise, the look on her face throughout the night; the dominating and unbending superiority that emanated on her aura despite her humble words — she was much gentler before the man.

That gaze of the woman as she looked at the man, Lexi knew it very well. She had the same soft gaze before; the gaze that her eyes would automatically make whenever she looked at her ex-fiance — pained yet content.

‘He must’ve loved her just like she does.` For some reason, Lexi was a bit envious. She never received such gentle gaze back from the only man she dedicated her heart for years. Indeed, though she somewhat hated what was Morris had done and the continuance of his suppression, Lexi couldn’t hate the man.

Yes, she hated his action, his blindness and how unfair he treated her in spite of the things she had done for him. However, she cannot bring herself to hate the man himself. With those thoughts hovering on her mind, Lexi’s mood gradually changed.

“Chu…” Churu who was missing in action since earlier suddenly appeared on Lexi’s shoulder with a worried look plastered across her face. At the same time, Ethan Lu witnessed the gradual change on Lexi as she heedlessly peered on the lovey-dovey couple that owned the floor. For some reason, something was tugged inside him which he couldn’t understand.

Forcing a meek smile on his face, before Ethan could realize it, he took a step forward and block Lexi’s view of the two couples.

Courtly lending out his hand, just like a real gentleman with his ever bewitching smile that whoever he aimed it for will certainly be lovestruck. “Miss Yang, will you give me the honor to have this dance with you?”
