Chapter 50
“Ah! Shit!”
The first attack of the fight came from the wyvern’s tail. I jumped back to dodge it before quickly charging forward with my swords thrust out. I was aiming for that opening after an attack. The wyvern had to turn its body in order to strike with its tail, and so there now a brief moment for me to come in. I aim for the side of its belly with my sword. However, the wyvern seemed to have learned a thing or two from the first half of the fight, and it immediately dropped its wings to get in the way. While they could not be used to fly, they could still shield it.
I curse at this new development and quickly draw back. I could see that the wyvern’s head was now coming for me. It’s jaw opened wide in order to crush me to death. Every tooth was visible and they looked as sharp as swords. Speeding up ‘Legs of the Forest Wolf’ barely allowed me to escape it. I pull back further this time. This initial exchange was over. Both I and the wyvern were finished warming up.
I tighten my grip on the steel sword. And just like Rex, but not exactly like him, I hold a new sword in my other hand. I’ve gotten used to creating these things recently. I could imagine them easily, and without depleting too much energy. An ‘Ice Sword.’
The clear ice emits a dark blue aura as it gleams in my hand. Its cold edge seemed to cry with rage. The magic that leaked from it was freezing the moisture in the air. And the silver and emerald wind was still around my feet. This was currently the most prepared I could possibly be for a battle.
Of course, a certain light elf who was more dependable than anyone was not here. There was no ballista either. No group of soldiers who had experienced years of harsh training. It was just me.
Well then, I could not half-ass this. I wouldn’t. I would die the moment I let my guard down.
Hahh… I would have to defeat it if I wanted to live. It was possible to delay it perhaps. If I could escape from it, I’m sure the guards would take care of this for me. They would be alerted if Rex made it back to the city safely. But it would take them quite some time if they had to carry that wounded man. I would be lucky if soldiers arrived here by the afternoon. Then I had no choice but to kill it. This wyvern in front of me. All by myself.
“Woah…!!”
The wyvern roared and charged forward at the same time. I kept it in my sights as I jumped into the air and out of its way. Then I use my skill to step where there is nothing but ‘air’ and shoot forward like a bullet. Just as I am above the body covered in scales, I slash at it with my steel sword. However, it only bounces off with the horrible ring of metal on metal.

I would not hold back. I would use the skill that he had given me to the fullest. Inside of my brain, ‘Jack of all Trades, Master of None’ was showing me how to use ‘Legs of the Forest Wolf’ on four separate screens. I concentrate and concentrate. The four separate screens are then converted into a single screen. The basis of this four-part split screen was the security monitors from work. In that case, I should be able to blow it up into one screen. When I believed this, the image in my brain became one picture. I only did what was possible.
In the footage, I was unleashing a powerful kick. My body immediately understands how the magic must flow in order to do this.
And so I kick out with a leg that is shrouded with wind. A silver whirlwind shoots out of my foot and smashes into the wyvern’s body.
“GGGYAAGHHH….hhh!”
It had clearly not expected any magical attacks. The whirlwind had traveled past the wyvern’s legs and left a trail of slashes and spurts of blood. Even so, it was not a fatal wound. It just hampered its mobility a little.
The wyvern turns to me and fires a volley of wind missiles made of magic that it had gathered towards it. This was a new attack. But they did not hit me. I zigzag from left to right, dodging the attacks and getting into striking distance of the wyvern. Its jaw comes down over me just as I duck and slash up at its chest. This time with the ice sword. A thin slit appeared and the flesh was exposed. The steel sword had not been able to cut it… The air suddenly became thick with a rain of blood. It was all I could do to escape from under it as it raged uncontrollably from the pain.
Hmm, could this be…
“So, I guess magic attacks are the most effective?”
I said to no one in particular. But it was obvious as I saw the raging beast in front of me. The magic whirlwind kick had worked. The magical ice sword had worked. In that case…?
Unfortunately, the moment I was certain was the moment I had let my guard down.
“GGGRRRAAAWWGGGgHH!!! AAAaaGGGHAAGHHAAAAAAAaaAA!!!!”
Its madness had taken complete control as it rushed at me with a speed that I had not seen before. I had not expected this. There wasn’t enough time for me to move, and I could only take a defensive stance. I crossed the two swords in front of me as something that had a similar force as a truck slammed into them.
“Mmmmnnggg…!!”
‘Legs of the Forest Wolf’ was able to kill some of the momentum that drove me backward, but not all of it. My back crashed into a large tree.
“Ah…gah…ahh…”
I couldn’t breathe. The result of the heavy blow on my back. Even my vision seemed to be blinking. Everything was foggy and without color. Ahhh. This was giving me a flashback of being stabbed at the convenience store. But this was not the time to be remembering such things. The black and white wyvern was glaring at me with eyes that were mad with rage. I had to escape first. I use ‘Legs of the Forest Wolf’ to jump into the air. I double jump and move back even further. It would likely die of blood loss by itself if I could only get away. Probably.

I wasn’t an expert on dragon resilience.
I dashed through the air as I shook my head and tried to clear my conscious. Just as color began to return, I looked back to see the wyvern chasing me at full speed.
Suddenly, I notice that my right-hand felt strangely light. Keeping the beast in my sight, I bring my right hand into view.
“Ah? What!?”
The steel sword that chief had made was broken in half. But this is a steel sword!? And where is the other piece! Once I was far enough to not be immediately attacked, I looked around vainly for the other half. It turned up in a most unexpected place.
It was protruding from my thigh.
Just as it entered my sight and I understood what had happened, a rush of pain assaulted me.
“SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIITTTT!!!”
Shit-shit-shit-shit-shit!!!! How did I not notice!? And I’ve been stabbed before!! Damn, I didn’t understand it!! Aaah, it’s no use. Every time I moved I could see the colors disappear as the pain comes in. I had to do something about it. It was all or nothing. I returned the broken sword into its sheath and grabbed the broken shard that was in my leg. My gloves were only leather but I didn’t care.
And then, I removed it with a single jerk.
“AAGGGAAAAAHAA!”
A vibrant stream of blood begins to pour. I quickly throw the shard away and cover the wound with my hand. It’s difficult to bring my consciousness under control, but I am eventually able to focus and cover the wound with magic. There was a red layer of ice when I removed my hand. I didn’t think it would work. But the freezing temperature of the ice also helped to dull the pain.
The wyvern that continued to chase me had a look in its eye that suggested he would drag me down with it no matter what. And so I generated an ice sword in my right hand, and instead of turning away, I jumped towards it. My body twisted while in the air until I was upside-down and both ice swords came down into its forehead. Surely magical swords would cut through. I had believed this, but the scales on its forehead did not admit the ice blades entry. And then the two blades were mercilessly shattered into fine pieces.
Daaamn. If ice swords weren’t going to cut it…I had nothing left. My wounded leg was going to be more of a problem if this continued any longer. I needed, I needed something. I think as look around me.
“This…this is near my campsite!”
Right, the place I had been sleeping until this morning. I knew because I had scouted the area. If the tree I slept in was close by, that meant something else was too!
I run over to the biggest tree and ignore the hanging rope, instead, I do a double jump and land on the tree branch. The hollow bag was there just like I had left it this morning. I thrust my hand inside without hesitation and grasp the thing I was searching for before pulling it out.
“The ancient elven sword…!”
I grip the handle of the sword we found in the forest ruins, and pull it out of its sheath. The light emerald blade shines in the light. A powerful relic from the age of advanced magic. I had to believe it was worth something. The wyvern was now at the base of the tree and taking in a deep breath. The wyvern breath. I hold the blade in front of me and jump down from the branch.
“GGRRRAAAGHH!!”
The wyvern breath is unleashed, and a storm of raging wind blows the branches from the tree. But the silver and emerald wind around my legs would not be overwhelmed. With a boost I fall even faster, the sword is held straight in front of me as the high-density breath attack hits me.
“AAAHHHHHH!!!!”
With a shout, I push Legs of the Forest Wolf to its absolute limit. And for a moment, there seemed to be a standstill. But it was I who won.
The ancient elven sword cut through the breath attack. The unleashed power exploded on both sides, blowing away nearby trees. And past the violent winds was the wyvern’s face. The sword went right into its gaping jaw, and with as much strength as I could muster, I slashed it open.
“GGGGOGGAAHH…hh…!!”
The cry is weak and the hurricane around us stops. It’s lower jaw and upper neck falls to the ground. A flood of blood erupts in the same instant and bathes the forest floor in red. And with no strength left within it, the wyvern sinks into the bloody lake.
I was finally able to relax. With a sigh, I looked at the fallen wyvern. This monster that lay in its own blood was killed by my own sword. I had defeated it.
I defeated it alone… I silenced the Legs of the Forest Wolf skill now. My body was exhausted. I needed some rest. But I didn’t have time. I needed to pack everything and go back to Spiris immediately…
I pick up the hollow bag and use the now sheathed sword as a walking stick. It was likely that I would faint if I didn’t return to Spiris soon. And passing out here would only mean that I would become food for other monsters.
The evening sunlight illuminated the forest. And with that warm light at my back, I dragged my body that was covered in wounds. I headed straight for Spiris.

Dungeon Core Chat Room.
This is a slower-paced "experiment and dungeon building" web novel that tries to use the idea of peer-to-peer communication with Dungeon Cores instead of Dungeon to slave monster communication to break up the detailed dungeon building. Rank 1 description: (minimum met for system initialization...detailed description as follows) Each race was given a system by the gods to make up for their shortcomings and balance their place in this world. Humans: Abysmally bad at understanding and using magic unable to use more than the lowest of magic were given the "Skill System" magic in the form of premade skills with use, study, and mastery tied to experience. Elves: Intuitively understand magic and have long lives leading to vast knowledge and skill in their chosen fields. However, as a species, they have nearly zero sex drive and less than low fertility, so they were gifted the "World Tree System" with experience gained through the care of natural areas – gifting the chance of children to increase their numbers without dirty copulation. All “natural” or “wild” monsters are given an "Evolution system" designed around killing and consuming as many creatures as possible, slowly increasing strength and, at thresholds, allowing mutations to alter them multiple times. Dungeon cores are different. Unlike humans, they can see, manipulate and live off mana. Unlike Elves, they naturally crystallize after extended periods of time in high mana level areas. However, they cannot easily move or communicate and typically go insane without companionship. As a species other than the odd eccentric they are unimaginative. Brute forcing solutions without the drive to truly innovate. Thus they have been gifted with the "Dungeon Connection System" a magical version of the internet accessible by their peers that allows them to barter and sell: bait, traps, monsters, and knowledge, as well as entertain each other with “adventure streams” using exciting recorded battles and humorous reels of arrogant chumps biting off more than they can chew to often fatal effects. This is the casual story of a dungeon unluckily spawned far from potential adventurers forced to innovate beyond its peers to find its place in this world. Rank 2 Description: Justification. I've been on a dungeon core kick for months and while I love the genre – it's sparse with entries. Often the forced conflict gets repetitive and frantic solving of threats "power levels" the protagonist to god levels to progress the plot – taking away the nice steady progression fantasy I'm looking for. (Progression in this story is linked to how strong of monsters/traps/whatever he can create not his "level"...this is demonstrated by some of his newer monsters beating his older monsters not with discrete "this monster has 10 attack this one has 40") Additionally, the focus on 3rd parties with their drama takes away from the reason I’m reading dungeon core novels in the first place – I'm looking for magical crafting, experimentation and kingdom building – not defence from higher and higher levelled enemies looking to steal/destroy/control the MC. This novel is kind of just me writing the story I wish I could read. I like thinking about the experimentation that can be done in fantasy settings using 'mana' as an excuse to make up rules and try to keep them internally consistent. IE once I define how a rule works, I'm going to commit to keeping it – no breaking hard truths I've given when it's convenient, even if it backs me into a corner. Hopefully, that should make the story interesting to read even if it's SOL and less action-oriented. There will be problems to solve and a clear progression in strength (of created monsters and knowledge) however due to not wanting to force conflict for the sake of conflict the general theme will be closer to slice of life with few action sequences and no overarching goal so please keep that in mind when picking this up as the genre is not for everyone. Finally, I have a clear goal of what I want from this story (not an endless romp but a series of arcs and then a conclusion that's a couple of dozen medium-sized chapters long) I want to commit to finishing it or at least bringing it to a point of rest. I hate all the engaging stories that stop with a “hiatus” indefinitely so in the event I lose motivation I'll work to end this even if the ending becomes rushed/unsatisfying just to give a sense of closure. I’m planning on including several polls in terms of direction and taking feedback heavily into account if I get enough readers (but may choose to ignore it if it deviates too far from the direction I want to take this as in feedback like: “The MC needs a cartoonishly evil arch-enemy that wants to enslave him and force the mc to pump out magic items” or “the MC needs to make a body and learn teleportation then live with humans” will get shot down without consideration.)

Changement : Version Face [French]
Notice: This story is in French, not in english, mainly because of my poor english. I may translate it later if I get better, and hopefully I will. - Author's note: this story is a concept. During the first chapter, the main character is faced with a major decision, which will change his life forever, and, not knowing what to do, he decide to play heads or tails, and let fate choose for him. And so there will be two versions of this story, one for each of the result, and their consequences for the main character, as well as all those around him. Here, he got heads.
