Indo-itzw chapter 72:
Chapter 72: Gorilla Zombie
Maximo was brushing its neck on Nile's arm affectionately. Maximo did it as an apology for the wrong he did earlier. Maximo did not kill the zombie immediately and only playfully stared at it. That negligence caused the zombie to have an opportunity to escape. Fortunately for Maximo, Nile is quite strong. A mere Level One° zombie with a constitution of 7.1 can no longer faze Nile. If it was any other person, Maximo might have already died in regret.
Nile patted and caressed Maximo's neck. "Good fight, Max... Just be careful next time."
Maximo nodded eagerly as he wagged his tail with the sledgehammer in it.
Nile boarded Maximo's back after a while. He has a good feeling about this Village. There are already three Level One° Zombies right off the entrance. How much more in the centre?
Nile and Maximo circled the periphery of the Village first before they strode towards the centre where the Village Hall is located.
They managed to kill two more Level One° zombies after circling the periphery of the Village. They then proceeded towards the inner part of the Village where the Village Hall is located. They have already killed five Level One° zombies on the outer area alone, the inner part should also have the same or more number of Level One° zombies compared to the outer area.
And indeed, after a minute, they have already encountered a zombie. In fact, it was actually a zombie animal.
A gorilla stood right in the middle of the road, blocking Nile and Maximo's path. Its chest has multiple holes as wounds in it, the blood that is flowing out from the wound has already dried. Nile assumed the wounds came from bullets and it must have happened between one or two months ago.
At first, Nile thought that this zombie gorilla was from the same group of zombie pets that he wanted to escape yesterday. He was startled and inspected his surroundings hastily, using the map. Fortunately, the System Map only has one red dot in it, indicating that it was the red dot and the gorilla zombie that is blocking their way is the same.
On the map, Nile noticed that there is a place labelled as Mini Zoo on the southern part of the Village. Nile heaves a sigh of relief after seeing that, that means that the gorilla zombie came from that particular zoo and not from the group of zombie pets yesterday.

It was a 'Mini Zoo', so Nile assumed they only had a small number of animals in it. Nile did not worry about it too much but still decided to visit that place later. The gorilla zombie blocking their way is more important for now.
The gorilla zombie stood in the middle, arrogantly blocking their path. The gorilla zombie seems to be proud of its build. It's bulging arm, muscles and protruding chest is apparent even in a distance. It stared at Nile and Maximo as if they were some lowly animals.
The zombie gorilla snorted and bash its protruding chest heavily while roaring. After it did the routine, it dashed towards Nile and Maximo in all fours.
When the gorilla arrived near them, it immediately made a punching posture while leaping in the air.
Boom*!
Maximo leapt to the side, avoiding the zombie's frontal attack. Debris flew everywhere as the ground cracked because of the gorilla zombie's strike. A minor earthquake happened with the gorilla zombie's fist as the centre.
Nile had already inspected the gorilla zombie's stats, and it has a whopping 8.4 points for its constitution and Apocalypse Virus level. It does have a reason to be arrogant.
Unfortunately, it decided to confront Nile. Nile could easily kill this gorilla zombie in a jiffy but went against it. Nile wanted to use this opportunity to polish his coordination with Maximo.
Nile commanded Maximo to leapt to the side to avoid the gorilla zombie's attack. Maximo had just evolved into a Middle Stage Level One° not too long ago, he could not withstand the zombie's 8.4 attacks for now.
After Maximo leapt to the side, the gorilla zombie smashes its chest again in anger after knowing that its attack had missed. Nile did not waste the opportunity. Using the tip of the Katana of Liberation, Nile poked the gorilla's dark red butt cheek.
The angry gorilla suddenly calmed down, and a satisfied expression appeared on its face. It was strange, but Nile brushes it off thinking that it was a side effect from the Katana of Liberation.
The gorilla zombie recovered and became angry again. It rotated its body along with a left hook coming towards Nile's face.
Maximo leapt back, and the left hook hit nothing but air. Using the Katana of Liberation, Nile sliced a finger from the gorilla's fist.
The gorilla zombie did not even flinch with that, it withdrew the left fist and proceeded to punch with the right hand this time.

Maximo will always leap to the side or to the back, all according to Nile's instruction. Every time it leapt, a finger would fly into the air.
This scenario repeated until Nile had no longer any gorilla zombie fingers left to slice with, aside from the one on its foot.
Nile and Maximo's coordination had now become much better. Nile got pretty bored with the repetitive punch that came from the gorilla zombie, hence he decided to end the battle already.
The gorilla zombie made a desperate struggle as its head got sliced in half diagonally.
The only noteworthy characteristics of the gorilla zombie were its arrogant attitude as well as the enlarged arms and its sturdy chest.
The System had already collected the Level One° Apocalypse Virus within the gorilla's head. Nile and Maximo immediately left the vicinity after killing the zombie.
Maximo marched towards the centre directly this time as per Nile's instruction. No need to waste their time on the periphery of the Village for now.
After the battle against the gorilla zombie, Nile wanted to visit the Mini Zoo as soon as possible.
Nile held the reins tightly as Maximo's hooves kept on echoing in the air. After a while, Nile saw the Village Hall of the Hangin Village in the distance. The Village Hall's walls are full of both tiny and big holes. It was as if it had just been taken straight away from a world war.
Nile assumed that this was caused by the human survivors fighting off the zombies one or two months ago. This was the first time Nile saw an area like this, an area where a fierce battle had taken place. Its traces are quite apparent too.
Thick vines had also started to sprout and spread towards the broken windows and walls of the Barangay Hall.
Nile and Maximo circled the Village Hall for a bit. After a while, Nile did not see any zombie or any human survivors around. Nile is not surprised by this, as he had already anticipated that there is no longer any human survivor that still remained here after two months.
They are either dead or have already moved to another location.
Based on the outer area of the Village alone, he already encountered five Level One° zombies, he assumed there are more in the inner area, which means that human survivors will have a hard time surviving on this kind of place. Unless they have a powerful evolved human that has the same strength or even stronger than Nile.
The Village Hall is where the survivors usually gathered based on what Nile had encountered so far. So after seeing the state the Village Hall was in, he assumed that the chances of meeting survivors in this Village are dim.
Besides, the survivors must have already moved towards the Town of Daan. That place was only two villages away from here, after all.
Nile and Maximo arrived at the Mini Zoo after a while. He purposely let Maximo slow down as he wanted to inspect the place they passed by more thoroughly.
Based on his observation, the surrounding houses and buildings have already started to be consumed by mutated vines and trees. He reckoned that this is not the case for the previous Barangay.
If these mutated vines and trees had just started to sprout a few days ago, then their growth rate is definitely terrifying. If everything he had assumed is really the truth, Nile imagined that in a few days from now, he will no longer see any intact man-made infrastructure anywhere. All of them will be swallowed by these mutated vines and trees sooner or later.
Well, it doesn't have to do with Nile. So Nile brushes it off. As long as there are zombies to kill, the surroundings did not matter for Nile. H*ck, he could even use it for his advantage.
Nile lets Maximo approach the entrance to the Mini Zoo. The gates and the fence of the Mini Zoo are already in ruins, so everywhere is an entrance.
Maximo jumps over a rusted metal debris. In the System Map, Nile saw that they have officially err... Illegally entered the premises of the Mini Zoo.
A dilapidated guard house meets their eyes when they land. In the broken wall of the guardhouse, there was a headless corpse leaning on it.
Based on the uniform, nothing to be surprised, it was a guard, a male guard. It seems that someone or something had smashed the guard's head in the wall. The guard's head had already been reduced into a meat paste, and only traces of dried blood are left on the wall as well as in the guard's uniform. On the left hand of the headless guard was a revolver that had already corroded slightly because of the orange rust.

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
