Nile dashes and arrives at the forefront of the zombie army.

A Level Zero° zombie's head disappeared from its body.

He reaches his hand and crushes the neck of an incoming Level Zero° zombie.
Psheww!*
He made a kick and a zombie figure flew away towards the other mobs, no longer getting up after it landed.
As the low-levelled zombies kept on pouncing on him, the surrounding area became narrowed. He could no longer swing his sledgehammer as easily as before.
Swing, Kick, Punch, Elbow, Knee, Dodge, Nile uses them in the most appropriate situation.
No wasted movement could be seen, as the seemingly random swing of the sledgehammer could make a low-levelled zombie's head vanish.
As there was no end to the zombie mobs, Nile feels that he will become tired eventually with these.
It was about this time, Nile heard a loud cry at his back.
Hearing that, Nile glanced at his back and saw what was happening. He made a smirk and smashed a zombie's head with his bare fist.
Nile evaded an incoming zombie and decided to close in towards the various Level One° zombies at the back of the zombie crowd. He left the low-levelled zombies for his comrades.
Comrades.

Marlin and the others anxiously watch as Nile's back figure keeps on getting further.
They saw Nile stop for a moment and twist his head to the side.
They could tell that Nile was speaking because of the movement of his lips, but they could not hear what was the content.
All they knew is that. At that moment when Nile twisted his head to the side, they could imagine a strong warrior fighting for their safety.
Their hearts fluttered as they felt that the back of Nile was getting wider. Wide enough to make them feel safe.

This time, they did not see a young man with a sledgehammer.
Instead.
They saw a dependable Man. A trustworthy Ally. A reliable Friend. A valiant Hero.
Despite feeling this, they still felt great sorrow. They just realized that they could lose someone important at any moment.
They saw Nile's figure disappear inside the crowd of zombies and became more anxious.

Their heartbeats became apparent.

Adrenaline rushed inside them. They gripped the weapon they were holding more tightly.
They glance at each other. They understood what they were feeling and what they wanted to do.
Marlin roared at the top of his lungs.
"Attaaaaack!"
Romulo and Hector are the first to dash towards the gate.
Using the shotguns, they obliterated the low-levelled zombies that came to them.
Sliding the chamber to reload. Romulo presses the trigger and the scalp of a low-levelled zombie vanishes.
Hector smashed a zombie's head with the handle of the shotgun.
Marlin put the muzzle of his pistol on the zombie's forehead and pressed the trigger. With a Bang*! The zombie's body fell down as the Apocalypse Virus inside it had died.
Clarris holds the small revolver with both of her hands. Firing when she is sure that she will hit a target.
Froilan is using his thick kitchen knife like an ace. Stabbing the head or slitting the throat of a zombie.
The others are also having their fair share of battle.
Anthony is using a Bolo to slash the zombie's head. If one slash is not enough to kill a zombie, he would slash two times. If two is not enough, he would slash three.
As the low-levelled zombies are slow. They could evade them easily. They take their time killing them.
Clarris is laughing loudly while she makes the zombie's forehead explode with her small revolver.

Evading the low-levelled zombie who pounced on him, Nile arrived at the back area where two Level One° zombies are present.
The two Level One° zombies dash and one of them quickly appears in front of him.
The two zombies are both male, one is thin while the other has a thick build. As for their faces, both are horrendous.
Nile could smell the rotting stink as it became more apparent. He thought that maybe it would be good to have a face mask in a battle?
The thin zombie is faster as it arrived in front of him first. Its height is only at Nile's shoulder level.
It swings its fist and punches straight to Nile's face.
As this is not the first time that Nile had fought. He evaded the punch easily to the side.
After he evades, the thin zombie is wide open from above.
Nile raises his right hand along with the sledgehammer.
His hand and the sledgehammer reach the highest point of height they could get.
Nile tightened his grip and let the sledgehammer's face dive into the back of the zombie's head, at the occipital bone area.
BANG!*
It hit the zombies' occipital area squarely. Nile could feel that something had cracked from that impact.
BANG!*
Another clamorous sound echoed as the zombie's head crashed to the ground.
With the force of the descending sledgehammer, the Level One° thin zombie fell to ground face first.
The ground cracked because of the impact.
The thick build zombie arrived during that time.
Nile twisted his body and made a roundhouse kick to the stomach area of the incoming thick Level One° zombie.
Its figure retreated for 6 steps.
As the thin Level One° zombie is not dead yet, Nile smashes it again with his sledgehammer.
This time, its head exploded into a mush, killing the Apocalypse Virus inside it instantly.
Nile closed in towards the thick build Level One° zombie. It had already steadied its body and was ready to pounce on him again.
The zombie throws a punch and Nile answers it with a punch of his own.
Bang*!
As their fists met each other, the Level One° zombies figure staggered 4 steps to the back. It was to be expected as Nile's stat is much higher than the thick build Level One° zombie.
Nile stepped over and closed the gap between them again.
While the zombie is still staggering, Nile swings his sledgehammer and aims at the zombie's right temple.
BANG!*
With the collision, the zombie's right temple is dented. Its body rotated 360 degrees in midair.
Nile did not waste any time. He smashed the zombie's head again with his sledgehammer while it was still rotating at midair.
Just like the thin build Level One° zombie, the thick build Level One° zombie's body fell to the ground head first.
You could see a crack in the ground and a small crater around the zombie's head.
"Two Level One° zombies dead, six to go." Nile smiled and said while stepping at the thick build zombie's head crushing it further.
The remaining five Level One° zombie underling roared.
All of them dash towards Nile at the same time with an impressive speed.

Setting and Theme: The Dreamside Road walks the line between fantasy and science fiction and deals with finding one’s place in a changing world. Many of the characters in this story are United States natives and the story begins in the United States, my homeland. However, knowledge or interest in this country is not necessary to understand the story, especially as it progresses. Also, as this is a novel that deals with societal collapse and while that damage may be widespread, in story, I don’t want to overstep and critique the culture of others’ unless I have particular knowledge in a given area. Ultimately, the Dreamside Road is American in the same way Harry Potter is English, fantasies that do not have a full secondary world, but with enough original elements to fully diverge the setting from our the real world.
