"All right. I'm leaving."
With that, Angelo picked up her suit. When she pushed the door open, she saw Drake outside. Instantly, she withdrew her smile.
"Hello, Mr. Thorne," she greeted him.
Looking at her differential expression, Drake was not quite happy. He glanced at Angelo and said, "Call me Drake."
After that, he walked away. Angelo hurried to follow up. But looking at his back, she pursed her lips.
He used to ask her to call him Mr. Thorne, but now, he asked her to call him Drake.
While she was complaining inside, Drake suddenly turned his head back. Looking at his face, Angelo hurriedly gave a smile.
When Drake turned back to keep walking, the smile faded from Angelo's face right away. She patted her chest. Did Drake know what she was thinking? She wondered.
Thinking of that, she shook her head. It couldn't be possible, she mumbled in a low voice, if Drake knew her thoughts, he would have known all her secrets.
The following day, Angelo and Drake arrived at the resort early in the morning. She looked around at the resort and was surprised.
The rockeries, buildings, paintings, and decorations… The more she looked, the more surprised she was. It was not like a resort but a palace for royals to hold parties.
When Angelo saw the golf course in front of her, she swallowed. Looking at Drake, she asked in an uncertain voice, "That is so luxury, isn't it?"
But instead of answering her, Drake just looked at her and raised his eyebrows. Then he continued his visit under the guide of an employee.
"Wait for me, brother."
Looking at Drake's back, Angelo hurried to follow up. Suddenly, she felt uneasy somehow.
What was wrong? She thought.
Just then, a few dogs suddenly came to them.

"These are the dogs of Mr. Thorne. To better take care of them, we've…"
Before the employee could finish his words, Angelo screamed and hid behind Drake.
"Dogs, Drake! Dogs!"
There was a tremor in her voice because a dog had bitten her when she was a child, which left a shadow in her heart. So, now when she saw dogs, her legs would shiver, and she didn't dare move a step.
Looking at Angelo hiding closely behind him, Drake changed his face and walked a few steps away.
The dogs got excited when they saw Drake's move and rushed to him.
Angelo was so scared that she screamed and grabbed Drake tightly.
"Help, Drake!"
There was a hint of hoarseness in her voice.
Beside them, the employee looked quite embarrassed. The dogs were all chained up!
However, Angelo didn't know that. She closed her eyes tightly and didn't dare to look at the dogs. What was more, she even tore a crack in Drake's clothes.
"Open your eyes."
Drake wasn't happy. Slowly, he broke Angelo's hands.
Angelo, however, held tighter when she sensed Drake's move. When she thought of the dogs, she felt that they would come up to her and tear her apart.
"Don't leave me alone, brother!" She sounded like crying.
Hearing her, Drake was worried.
But soon, he noticed the change in his emotion. He was upset about himself. So, he just got rid of Angelo's hand and walked away.
"Don't leave me, brother! Drake!"
Angelo shouted worriedly. But she could sense that Drake had walked far away. Helplessly, she opened her eyes slowly.
When she saw the chains around the necks of the dogs, she was relieved a little bit. Then she got up, bent over, and slowly walked over.
Just then, a dog barked, and soon the others joined in.

Angelo's legs became so weak that they couldn't even support her. She sat down on the ground, held her head tightly, and screamed, "Don't bite me! Don't bite me!"
With that, tears fell from her eyes. The childhood nightmare appeared in her mind again.
Standing not far away, the employee looked quite complicated. He thought about it and then walked to Angelo. He squatted down to pat Angelo on the shoulder to comfort her, but as soon as he touched Angelo's shoulder, his hand was swept away.
"Help! Please don't bite me! Don't bite me!" Angelo screamed.
However, with her scream, the dogs barked more loudly. Angelo's face was pale. She waved her hands, and there was horror on her face.
"Shut up!"
Angelo heard Drake's cold voice. As if she had found a savior, she hurried to stand up and hugged Drake.
Drake froze for a moment when he was suddenly held. Then a fire rose within him, and his face became stiff.
"Don't leave me, brother. I'm scared."
Angelo's choked voice sounded near Drake's ear. Instantly, it aroused his protecting desire. Sensing the change of his body, he felt embarrassed.
He pushed Angelo away and then said to the employee coldly, "Take them back now."
There was censure in his tone.
Under his oppressive momentum, the employee shivered a bit. He knew the "them" referred to the dogs, so he hurriedly nodded.
Then, he trotted to the dogs and led them away, so as the bark. Angelo didn't dare to open her eyes until there was noise around.
When she saw that the dogs were not around, she calmed down. She wiped the tears from her face and looked at Drake.
Looking at Drake's back, she was depressed. Thinking of her behavior just now, she gave a lame smile.
She might be the only charge being frightened by dogs, she thought, and Drake must be very disappointed at her. But she couldn't do anything about it. She just couldn't control her fear, not in her last life, so this one.
With the thoughts, she stood up and patted the dirty on her knees when Drake was nowhere around.
Just then, "Angelo," a familiar voice came to her ear. She stayed and then slowly turned back.
"Grandma."
She gave a smile.
Yes, it was Corrine who called her name.
But on the old lady's face, there was hate. Angelo soon thought of something, and her face became pale.

The Last Journey
A slice of life litrpg story... or is it? It's burning slow, though. Moving on: War comes with a great cost. Lives and time wasted for most part. One could either be run with sword, be poisoned, be bowed, and sometimes meet their end with just a tiny speck of wood. With magic, it becomes even more colorful. From lightning, to worse poison, to hovering rocks, to weird bladed leaves, to whipping roots, and to a lot more odd things easily reasoned with magic. A wonderful creation. But once used to something more than wonder, more than tricks to gather laughs, it becomes worse. War becomes worse. For there is not only blood to be spilled. A particular town almost met the same end. Soldiers geared with swrords and bows came with mounts. Horses burning lush grasses as it cracked boulders and the soil alike with every step. The kind that only war ones could ever do. Even strange wheeled creations that oozed danger were towed, loaded with something meant to destroy. But not once had they acted upon what such devices should've done, nor what an an army is supposed to do. Siege never occurred, as much as a command to war. No. Magic existed so a simple little fire is all the worth the town has. No sword drawn, no arrows nocked, nothing. Just some mana spent and through the ash they march. That was how Nudius saw her end. It came not even as a surprise. She didn't have the moment to fully register what occurred before she found herself in an empty dark space. Life lost, time spent. All from a fire that had not even touched her. But she knew very well that it was magic. Something she wished to have and strived for to have. Yet it seemed that none of it would matter now. Nudius was well aware of what the color around meant, of the odd situation, of the unfeeling state of her being. It was death and that was it. She didn't have to worry or dream further. Although there wasn't what she truly wanted in what death to her is, but at least, Nudius was comforted to what she believed death is. Rest. But little did she know there's something more than that empty space. It wasn't only the promise of rest, but was also more than she could ever hope for. Another chance at life. Another chance to dream. ***Tags are there just in case. You never know! Umm... HI-MI-TSU. Story blurb+: This is slow burn, quite slice of life story about a girl learning magic. All the while as she fatten herself up. So yeah, progression fantasy. But there's Litrpg! Numbers! Magic! Spells! And of course! There's something more. But read on ahead, please. Oh yes. Plot! There is, too. Disclaimer: The cover isn't made by me. Just layered it with a text. I got it from a free website, if I correctly recall. I'll see to it. (Haven't worked on it.)
